Guitar Hero: Metallica confirmed for May News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

14 January, 2009

Activision has told Eurogamer that Guitar Hero: Metallica will be rocking onto European shelves this May.

The publisher's comments come after a internal schedule was supposedly leaked to French website LiveWii, citing the same date.

The news is also hot on the heels of US retailer GameStop claiming Guitar Hero: Metallica will be out there on 29th March.

Metallica follow Aerosmith as the focus of a spin-off Guitar Hero game, and bring with them full drum/guitar/microphone GHWT support plus fancy sounds for the GHTunes recording studio.

In celebration of the bonkers ability of band co-founder Lars Ulrich, Guitar Hero: Metallica will also sport an Expert Plus drumming difficulty and freestyle drum fill mode. There's lots of Metallica trivia, photos, set lists and videos, too.

Guitar Hero: Metallica is in development for Xbox 360 and PS3. A full track list can be found where we last wrote it.

Lars is a shitsack of epic proportions, and a lapsed and incompetant drummer now, but upto and including Justice he was generally regarded as one of metal's finest drummers.

Is there any hope that the full track list you linked right there is both incomplete and inaccurate? They should not, in their right mind, charge us full price for those 20 odd songs and leave behind some real classics at the same time...

Fuck Activision! The US get it in March and we have to wait until May??? After my kick pedal breaking, them not answering the my RMA requests and now the red pad not responding I'm developing a lot of hate for them...this better do Metallica justice[pun not intended].

What I really want to see is Guitar Hero: Strapping Young Lad!

Gene Hoglan drums like Satan on Crack... he would eat Lars Ulrich for breakfast, crap him out at lunch and flush him at dinner time.

Megadeth went to dogshit at about the same time as Metallica though. The black album and symphony of destruction were crappy but ok in small doses. Anything after that for both bands was worse than boyzone, apart from Death Magnetic which is also crappy but ok in small doses.

I just want kill 'em all, master of puppets, ...and justice for all, rust in peace and peace sells as DLC albums. I'd never need another game...

Oh, and among the living for ultimate jammie-wearing, boot stomping, moshpit-inducing metal enforcement!

When did Hoglan start playing for SYL? I thought the drummer from Zimmer's Hole played in SYL or am I terribly out of date?

Hoglan does indeed rock. Loved his work with Death.. :)

Well that leads to another question: How well does RB play with a GH:WT drum kit? I'm worried that the cymbals won't get used as cymbals... anyone got the same setup?

As mentioned in the AC/DC Live pack - how about if the actual performers were Metallica instead of random computer generated characters and the proper venues to add that element of authenticty.

expert brums for such a shit drummer, for shame. the rest of the band carry him and even in the 80's there were many drummers that were better; nicko from maiden and neil peart from rush to name two. if the game came as two installments, pre and post black then i would be tempted by pre, but this is full to overflowing of a band revolving around a frontman who rather likes the sound of his own voice.

wonder when gh:iron maiden or qotsa is gunna see any development

add on;

farty, rb's drums are now flawed because of gh:wt. as was said on the acdc review, anything past hard on rb's drums is just making it harder than its supposed to be in reality, the orange pad is not used, the green acts as a cymbal as well as the yellow. (which makes the ion kit a joke for rb imo)

He did some reasonably creative stuff back in the day, but he's never been technically competent (compare him to the likes of Mitchell, Bonham and Copeland who were around at the same time and he doesn't even come close), he just did some stuff not many people had really done before with double-kick, but compare that to what guys like Lombardo and Jordison are doing (and they're just two obvious examples) and it really is nothing. It's not that he's a terrible drummer as such, but when you've got drummers like Copeland, Paice, Alex Van Halen, Jordison, Dolmayan, Chamberlain, Mitchell, Steve Smith, Peart and even Portnoy (can't stand the guy but his playing is impressive) in these games it seems strange they'd pick someone who doesn't compare to any of them to have a new difficulty dedicated to him.

Guh, why did this have to be a guitar hero title rather than a RB add-on... sorry, but ever since Nerversoft took over GH the charts aren't fun to play anymore. Great for those who want to go for uber-scores, terrible for enjoying with friends the way these games work best. Still, may be tempted to pick up the solus pack for this as Metallica's back catalogue is damn near perfect for this sort of game and the other bands that are supposed to be on the track list are damn good as well. Oh, and yes, the WHOLE back catalogue please, everything from Kill 'Em All to Death Magentic, there's some great tracks off every album and it gives a welcome variation when playing. Personally, after hearing 'em at the O2 last year, I'm hoping that Bleeding Me makes it in, really good track and it fits in nicely with the older work believe it or not.

Ah I must have been getting confused. I saw Zimmers/SYL/Devin townsend project on a triple bill a few years back (which was simply awesome) and there was so much band member sharing.. it was terribly incestuous! xD

I know Steve Wheeler was the Zimmers drummer back then. How I failed to spot Hoglan I don't know. Might have been something to do with booze though! ;)

Oooh, no fair!

You are completely right of course, especially about Mitch Mitchell. He's my drumming hero, closely followed by Brann Dailor and Morgen Agren.

It's a different genre though and I did state 'at the time he was one of metals finest' ;)

I'd say the prestige of this expansion getting double kicks is more to do with Metallica's iconic status than Lars' standing as a respected drummer.

Surely the best way to do that would to get your music in a normal Guitar Hero game, not a moneygrabbing seperate disc. Only Metallica fans will buy Guitar Hero Metallica, idiot.

Hah, there's always one isn't there. I can't even be bothered to say the obligatory answer to this statement, which someone so cleverly says in every single RB or Gh thread...

Although, as a few others have mentioned, no way am I buying a new bloody full price version of Guitar Hero every time they decide release it for a different band. GH may have the better instruments, but if they don't pull their fingers out of their arses people will get pretty sick of this and simply go for RB and it's far superior DLC offerings.

As far as I know, its the same RYBG set up on the World Tour kit. Since Y is mapped to a cymbal anyway (Rock bands Drums usually vary depending on chart but its mostly Red = Snare, Yellow and Blue = Hi-Hat and Ride Cymbals, Green = Crash. They all turn into toms on the Fill section). I dont think you can use the Orange cymbal as a crash though unless Harmonix Mapped it out as an extra green.

Good man! I love the Thrax, they were always tight as very tight thing in an incredibly small space! Master of puppets is the ultimate downpicking workout but Scott Ian makes those chugging downpicks sound HEAVY.

And SOD make me laugh out loud whist still sounding hard as nails. Zimmers hole are the only other band that do that to me.

Awww poor little Johhny's favourite games didnt sell very well. Going to have a little cry after your tantrum?

Here's a dose of reality for you. Those titles did sell, just not not in blockbuster numbers and there's a good reason for that. They don't have broad appeal. Why make such a strong comment on the games market when you clearly don't understand it?

It's quite clear that you are. Just because you don't understand the game, or why so many people get great enjoyment from it, that does not mean you should immediately lash out at it.

That is the way of animals, not people. My cats at least have the intelligence to investigate something before attacking it. That's more than can be said for you.
