Guitar Hero IV this year

British band The Answer in it.

Guitar Hero IV will be released at the end of 2008, according to an unlikely press release from British band The Answer.

Its song "Never Too Late" will feature in the line-up, apparently, after being picked out at the Marché international de l'édition musicale (or Midem conference) held at the end of January.

More than 200 songs were submitted by music companies at the enormous industry trade fair, and Activision (plus experts) chose just 20 of them to appear in Guitar Hero IV.

The Answer are obviously chuffed to bits, as sales of the rhythm-action series and its downloadable content have boosted participating bands' sales in the past.

"This is a tremendous honour and privilege for both The Answer and the Alberts label," said James Cassidy, UK boss of music label Alberts.

"With a new album due later this year we look forward to taking the band to a whole new level of international success."

Meanwhile, Activision UK stuck to no comment.

Suppose it was inevitable really. Haven't liked GHIII much - the first remains my favouriye so far.
  • gingerlink #2 4 years ago

ok, as much as I like the GH games, this is in danger of becoming like fifa...or any other churn-out EA game, just done by a different company.

Guitar Hero IV - A dead horse well flogged.
  • Bertie Verified Senior Staff Writer, Eurogamer.net #4 4 years ago

S'not exactly surprising, but nice to hear nonetheless.
  • Zomoniac #5 4 years ago

The first had the best track list, the second was the best game. All Neversoft have added to the game is fucking stupid boss battles and obscene difficulty spikes. Although I guess the online stuff is better there than not. Harmonix will continue to lead the way and the Guitar Hero series will tail off gradually.
  • tesco #6 4 years ago

It'll probably STILL beat rock band to a UK release
  • dsmx #7 4 years ago

I was just thinking that tesco. What annoys me the most is that rock band could be released for the ps3 right now in Europe as the ps3 is region free and would require no changes to the game code but they chose not to. I can only think the delay is because of licensing issues with the music, another example of the record companies getting in the way of entertainment?
  • Erinan #8 4 years ago

Yep, probably licencing issues although I don't understand why they don't communicate anything about it...
  • dk_rare #9 4 years ago

In other news, bit torrent searches for the terms "Rise" "Never Too Late" and "The Answer" jumped sixty thousand percent today.

I bought Guitar hero 3, don't really like the game to be honest. Some of the notes you are expected to hit are insane. Will hold on to it for the cool guitar, and I look forward to the Aerosmith game, yeah I actually like them...
  • JonFE #11 4 years ago

Well, if it does come out so soon, I hope Activision will have the decency to price the solus edition as a budget game, not a full price one.

For those wondering what to expect:

Brilliant news for the Downpatrick lads. Nice to see a band from the home country reaching success! But definately Bonus Setlist material.

    @ Nick007

    Gotta love Aerosmith!
  • Nick007 #14 4 years ago

Yeah I've always liked Aerosmith, will be getting the game on day one :)
  • Gaol #15 4 years ago

I loved GHIII but they better not expect me to buy a new guitar.
  • lennon #16 4 years ago

@Tuffty - I hope the implication is that these songs will be bonus tracks as 20 songs does not sound very many to me.
  • ParmaViolet #17 4 years ago

You have to expect that the guitar that will be packed with the next GH would be a Flying V - after all, we've had the SG, Explorer and Les Paul so far....really can't see them trying a Semi-Acoustic Gibson like the ES-335.....could be kinda cool though - always loved ES-335's

    :-)

The reason the PS3 version of rock band hasn't been released in Europe is that Europe is always viewed as one territory, and they only have the English version of teh game made at the moment. As always we have to wait for all the localized versions to be made so they can do Europe-wide promotion and marketing.

As far as GH4 goes, i am so uninspired with GH3 after GH2, i might not even get it :-(, and i really loved GH2.
  • optimusprym8 #19 4 years ago

ust give us GH1 songs already
  • miiiguel #20 4 years ago

"another example of the record companies getting in the way of entertainment? "
Or an example or record companies taking care of their buisness?
  • baardhimself #21 4 years ago

they should knock out new guitar hero games every 6 months, just standalones with no new guitars. Im all for new GH music but no way am I buying any DLC on the DRM phucked XBL
  • Killerbee #22 4 years ago

Guitar Hero III was my first foray into the series and I think it's brilliant, so IV (assuming I don't have to buy a new guitar) with a load more tracks would be very welcome indeed.

20 tracks sounds a bit poor - I presume that's just from new-ish bands and there will be plenty of "classic" stuff on offer too.
  • Tuffty #23 4 years ago

@lennon Well I only presume it's bonus setlist as The Answer are by no means a well known, popular band and as you probably know, lesser known bands/songs get stuck in the Bonus Setlist which I presume these 20 songs will be put in.
  • Triggerhappytel #24 4 years ago

Wow, they're really milking the shit out of this, aren't they? Will there be a 'Guitar Hero: Rock the 90s' in the meantime to tide fans over?

I'll give this game two more editions until people start to lose interest.
  • asphaltcowboy #25 4 years ago

    They're milking it...!
  • dsmx #26 4 years ago

Sorry Mr chuckles that argument doesn't hold water the NA territory has English, Spanish and French as it's main languages. That's a lot of Europe covered and considering that the localisation they will need to do involves text and possibly the tutorial speech I don't see how that could take 9 months to do.
  • lennon #27 4 years ago

@Tuffty - I hope so otherwise if this retails at £49.99 for 20 tracks it will be as bad as paying 500 points for 3 tracks ;)
  • smelly #28 4 years ago

    GH3 has downloadable content

So how can they justify GH4 without MAJOR gameplay changes (unlikely)

    ??
  • Lin #29 4 years ago

    Good band. They deserve it.
  • FooAtari #30 4 years ago

CoD 5 and GH 4. Give it another year or two and we will be well sick of these games. Actiblizzard = the new EA.

A new game every 2 or 3 years is far better. That way games have a longer life and stay fresh. Have the devs work on something new for christ sakes. This time next year CoD and GH will be more stale than 6 month old bread.
  • Zomoniac #31 4 years ago

But we all know only to buy the even-numbered CODs to not get lumbered with the TreyArch shit, there are two bi-annual series, one's good and one ain't :)
  • rudedudejude #32 4 years ago

I hope it will include the Lancashire Hotpots.
  • Nithron #33 4 years ago

Surely by this point, they're better off just releasing more DLC for the current game, not releasing an entirely new disk?
  • kingkatt #34 4 years ago

yep, GHIII should have been DLC for GHII. All future releases of the series should be available as DLC. Why buy another disc (or guitar) for the same game mechanic?

Rockband as well. It would be annoying to see a RockBand 2, just release the content as DLC and pass the distribution cost saving on to the customer.

    /wakes up, stops dreaming.
