The sacred dial of rock is being turned even higher for the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II, as Activision announces exclusive finger-cramping tracks, power-chording them into our collective puddle of melted faces.

Billion Dollar Babies (Alice Cooper); Dead! (My Chemical Romance); Hush (Deep Purple); Life Wasted (Pearl Jam); and Rock N Roll Hoochie Koo (Rick Derringer) are confirmed as being part of the 10 additions to GH2's original selection. Other rumoured inclusions are Possum Kingdom (Toadies), Salvation (Rancid) and The Trooper (Iron Maiden).

Key to RedOctane's axe-wielding foray into the next-generation will be Microsoft's online service, which looks set to offer new songs (possibly from the first game), leaderboards, themes and picture packs.

"The expansive capabilities of the Xbox 360 will allow us to provide a consistent stream of fresh new content to our fans," said RedOctane's head of publishing Dusty Welch, "and we plan on fully supporting these efforts."

We're dribbling with excitement about the shiny new HD graphics and the glitzy new peripheral of destruction. And, less you forget, Guitar Hero was also our 2006 game of the year.

Hopefully downloadable content will go some way to solve the "I don't like this tune" issue that all music games have. Same with Singstar and Dance Mat games of the future I would expect.

Now all they need to do is make it more guitar hero than banjo hero,as that tiny peripheral looks rediculous on my manly 6ft 6 frame Still love the PS2 one though,and can't wait for the 360 version to arrive.
A bit of Children Of Bodom on there wouldn't hurt anyone either.

Not a chance, I guaratee. In the same way that a PS2 to USB converter wouldn't allow you to use a PS2 controller on your 360 (A PS2 GH controller is just a PS2 controller with a face lift).

Although, not being able to use a PS2 controller on a 360 is hardly "getting stitched" is it?

Hurrah, finally a game i can get all those 19yr old rock chicks who stay over my house to play... (I sold my PS2 about 3 years ago after they kept region locking jap/us games i wanted to play in my euro PS2). one of my few regrets was Guitar Hero.

License agreements will be platform specific, but I wouldn't be surprised as it shouldn't be too big a deal to extend the licensing agreements.

The "we want to put the music in a video game" stuff is the hardest to get through (some IP owners hate the idea) and that hurdle is already behind them. Plus they have only licensed the song, not the recording (bonus tracks excepted) so it should be a reasonably trivial exercise overall.

I would imagine building a decent library of DLC is core to any game of this type, so I would bet on them wanting the lot on the there eventually.

I knew I'd have to buy the Xbox version when I bought the PS2 one, but there was no way I could wait the extra months. Not after I'd travelled from Edinburgh to London and back to play one song. Some extra songs are definitely a bonus though.

As far as I can see, the only down side is that I'll have to play the whole game again. Pity really.

@Der_tolle_Emil: I really like Sunn O))). Seen them live once and it was awesome. Close to nothing happened on stage but the sound was gargantuaneous(?). Really sucked you in. Not really into the doom metal scene but it has it moments for me too.

Personally I couldn't give a shit what silly sub genre a rock or metal band I like has fallen in to.As long as they're talented musicians and aren't blatently cashing in on a current trend(Far too many identikit bands popping up lately) or ripping off other acts I tend to like most Rock/Metal bands around today.
Saying that at my ripe old age of 24,lyrics with continuous screaming or roaring in them are beggining to grate on my nerves a bit now.

brooza: Thanks. Since the 360 guitars won't be wireless I guess it will be easier to make them work on the PC (if they don't already work in the first place). I don't have any PS2 guitars (never had a PS2) and I can imagine that I will have quite a use for freetar hero with the guitars.

Shiiiit. If this does have GH1 songs as bonus downloads (whether with the new GH2 HO/POs or not) I'm gonna sell all my PS2 GH stuff and get this. As if I can put off buying a GH with downloadable songs *anyway*, but this'd at least let me get some money back when doing so.

Only three songs left to 5-star on Expert, on GH2...

EDIT: Three of the MAIN songs, that is. A few bonus songs left too.
