Guitar Hero guitars to work with Rock Band

Dev confirms.

Rock Band - the Harmonix rhythm-action game that brings together guitars, drums and vocals, announced on Monday - will be compatible with "Guitar Hero guitars", according to the developer.

"For some reason, IGN posted that Rock Band will not be compatible with Guitar Hero guitars," artist Jason Booth wrote on the game's official forum. "I thought I'd drop in and let you know that this is not correct."

When asked whether this meant there was nothing new planned for the game's guitar peripherals - lead and bass, remember - Booth added: "There is - but you'll have to wait to hear about that."

Rock Band, which is being put together in collaboration with MTV (who will be helping bring original master recordings to play) and publisher Electronic Arts, is due out this Christmas on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

So THAT's why there's an effects pedal slot!

I'm more interested to know whether you can us all four instruments on the one console, for band practice in bedrooms.

    @Toothball

This is why they need to get wireless 3rd-party controllers working, at least for such a money-spinner as the Guitar Hero/Rock Band series. MS must know that they need to really push wireless since ALL PS3 controllers are wireless and they are still mucking around with (admittedly cheaper) wired pads.

    From a few days ago:

"Nyko's PS3 Play Adaptor, which was announced in January and promised support of PlayStation 2 guitar controllers—meaning proper Guitar Hero I & II play on the PLAYSTATION 3—has been put on indefinite hold... Citing "limitations in the PlayStation 3 hardware" the company says it has been "prevented from releasing this product with support for Guitar Hero."

Most people read "limitations in the PlayStation 3 hardware" as meaning a specific PS3 guitar was in the works and Sony didn't want a competitor... although AFAIK Guitar Hero hasn't been announced on the PS3.

how do they work if there's no ps2 controller style slots? do we all have to buy usb adapters, or will there be some in the box?
unless they put the slots in the effects pedal, then it'd be like a real guitar!
    ace.

how do they work if there's no ps2 controller style slots?

Who said anything about PS2? He just said "Guitar Hero guitars".
  • davisorle #7 5 years ago

    I think Rock Band isn't even coming out on a PS2... o.O
  • actionthom #8 5 years ago

so what your saying, plug monkey, is that they're actually referring to guitars that haven't yet been released for other formats?
i think it's pretty obvious that the guitar hero guitars to which they are referring are the ps2 ones, since there aren't currently any other types of guitar hero guitar available.
    so read my post again.
