Guitar Hero Greatest Hits on the way News

DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

12 February, 2009

Activision boss Mike Griffith has told analysts there will be a Guitar Hero Greatest Hits compilation and a third Guitar Hero game for DS this year.

During a financial conference call, Griffith detailed the Greatest Hits compilation as one that includes "full band versions" of previously released songs - presumably those from Guitar Hero I, II and III.

The game is coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, and is due to launch before the end of the year.

Griffith was a bit vague about the third Guitar Hero DS instalment, citing only a similar release date of this year. He made no mention of how the game will work with the new DSi hardware, which has done away with the GBA slot that Guitar Hero: On Tour and Guitar Hero: Decades fret-grip peripherals clipped into.

Griffith added that Guitar Hero has now reached 32 million people around the world, and is the "clear leader" in the music genre. The franchise was apparently the largest across the videogame market for the whole of 2008, too.

Guitar Hero will expand again this year with a Metallica spin-off for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii this May. A PS2 version will follow.

Good news in theory, but I wonder how many songs that actually includes...

Because downloadable content for World Tour wouldn't be a better idea? Hmmm?

Making them DLC would be a much better option than just a track pack on disc....

Please include Even Flow, the Queens & Incubus song from GH1 and message in a bottle though!

Poor show. At the very least the GH3 DLC and disc songs should have worked in GHWT in some kind of "guitar only mode".

Its great to have the extra music, and for anyone new to the series its a good opportunity to grab a bunch of decent tunes, so its not all cynical bad news. I agree though, they should just add them to the store.

I tend to go after any tracks from older Guitar Heroes that crop up in the Rock Band store. I'd have reservations if I had to buy a separate disc for them, but I could get by if any tracks could be included in the main game like with that AC/DC disc. Having to use different discs to play different content is just no use at all.

Think I'll be sticking with Rock Band.

I'm not buying another standalone game. If you can't install the tracks into GH:WT then I'm not interested.

It better not be full price either.

Damn! I read this and thought "they're releasing a greatest hits DLC pack? Wahey!" and now it looks like it's a standalone game like the Aerosmith p.o.s.? Yup, they're milking it and I won't buy this. I think Rock Band is way better at fanservice with cheaper downloadable songs and packs.

I already have GH2 and 3, but if they put stuff like Frankenstein, Godzilla, and Bark at the Moon on there my face would melt.

Well, they said it was "annually exploitable" and promised to "treble series output over the next year", so this explains how: new core GH, a "greatest hits" and a band-focused one. OH THE JOY.

This is why ActiBlizz have replaced EA as Icons of Exploit.

why does every comment about dlc make me laugh? because you all believe that every console gamer is connected to the internet. if the games released as a disk it can appeal to everyone, not just those with mushy, dlc-soaked brains. tho a dual disk/dlc system would shut you lot up. but i'd only buy this if it was tied in to the main ghwt game, similar to the rb/rb2 system.

oh and WHERE THE FUCKITY FUCK IS THE IRON MAIDEN DLC!? missing market there actiwhizz

well, having an xbox 360 or a ps3 without online connection is pretty pointless. it's like buying one of these consoles and not have an HD tv. there's simply no point

to you maybe but you arent the demographic are you. my twin brothers in law dont have live so getting the game as dlc is pointless to them. you would argue that its pointless because you have internet, so therefore i'd assume you have live.

Better DLC would be nice and also not having to keep swapping discs would be a bonus too

Wrong my friend...You don't need HDTV to enjoy 360/PS3 gaming...I quite like playing my 360 on a CRT to be honest with you :)

Yippie....we get the same old shit we've played thousands of times, and we have to pay for it.....again!
That's just lame.

And who's gonna decide what the classics are going to be? Not all song appeal to everyone.

Though singing/drumming along to Freebird could be nice :).

I want to sing along to Mother from GH2.:D

Edit: Btw, they should put up some sort of voting site. Let the fans decide on some of the songs they wanna see return.
