Guitar Hero: 1980s Edition?
US mag claims it's on the way.
A 1980s themed edition of Guitar Hero is next on the agenda for RedOctane and developer Harmonix.
That's according to a report in US magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly, which claims that the game - as yet unannounced - will ship sometime this spring.
EGM didn't specify platforms, sadly, but you'd expect a PlayStation 2 version, obviously.
Xbox 360 will be supported by Guitar Hero II, but it's possible the companies would try to avoid cannibalising those sales with a separate edition released in close proximity - not least because of their publicly stated intention to deliver extra 360 content via Live Marketplace.
RedOctane's UK representatives weren't immediately able to confirm the report, but suggested we'd hear more from the company in the very near future.

How to get me to upgrade and give you lots of money:
All GH1 songs downloadable for XBox GH2. This is well worth the price of one game.
The 80's pack downloadable for XBox GH2. This too is well worth the price of one game.
Now, if you make the downloadable packs separate career modes, I'll die of pleasure.

Oh well, guess once again there won't be any Stratovarius, Kamelot, Nightwish, or any power metal whatsoever. Never mind that the genre could provide for some of the best content both gameplay and sound wise, but I suppose it has never occurred to them to put in any European style metal. Which isn't surprising.
Oh well, more Queen, some AC/DC and W.A.S.P. might just soothe the wounds...

Fingers crossed for Maiden, Metallica and Slayer.

And more Maiden/Queen/... (maybe some Savatage too?) would be nice.
Just worried that an 80s-specific version may lose some of the variety the current two versions have had.

They should make it so if you're doing good, you can do extended solos, be it parts written by the real artist or added by whatever band(s) cover them for the game. Find a way to do it. Add stage dives too. And a drumset thingy.

What I'm asking myself is, why you can't just put a CD into the PS2 and a GH version on its (i.e. the ps2) HDD will translate it into GH compatible songs? Can't be that hard.
PS: oh and ForGod'sSake put some R E A L guitar players' songs on it, like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Frank Zappa, ...
