Guild Wars breaks 4 million
Eye of North expansion soon.
NCsoft has just revealed that the Guild Wars franchise has sold over four million copies around the world since launching just over two years ago, GamesIndustry.biz reports.
"ArenaNet's fantastic work on Guild Wars has helped make NCsoft the leading online gaming publisher in the world," commented Robert Garriott, big cheese of NCsoft America.
The series is made up of Guild Wars and two paid for campaigns Guild Wars: Factions, and Guild Wars: Nightfall.
Guild Wars: Eye of the North will be the first real expansion for the game when it's released on 31st August, and will reward existing veteran players with new challenges rather than introduce a new campaign for beginners to ease into the world with.
Guild Wars is a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game that features no monthly subscriptions, a large player versus player aspect, and one giant world so that everyone can play together - leading to numerous large scale tournaments taking place in designated arenas.
A sequel is currently in development and will enter beta sometime in 2008, probably later rather than earlier.
