GTI Club+ PSN details and shots News

PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

21 August, 2008

Konami has announced plans to release a Sumo Digital-developed remake of GTI Club on the PlayStation Network this November.

Called GTI Club+, the new game adopts the 1996 coin-op's open racing environments and spruces them up with 720p graphics at 60 frames-per-second.

There will be a great many vintage and modern vehicles to race around in, apparently, and you will be assisted by Sat Nav, a new rear-view mirror and fancy 5.1 surround sound - including a remix of the arcade machine's Atjazz music.

There are Free Run, Arcade and Bomb Tag modes, support for eight-player online racing, and worldwide rankings to keep track of your achievements.

Apparently the game even supports EyeToy HD, although we don't know why. Perhaps you can capture people's souls.

Konami has yet to confirm a price for GTI Club+, but you can expect to see it in November and you can expect it to look like it does in our GTI Club+ screenshot gallery.

Will be nice to have a go on this without being over the legal limit playing it in bars!

Even though this looks a little too much like a PS2 game, this is still the best news to come out of Leipzig IMO.

Ace!

I was completely blown away by it back in the day, as a PSN title it should still stand up.

Fantastic news. I wonder if there will be a 360 version for online?

There will be no 360 version. It's PSN exclusive.

I've had to keep this under my hat as my mate works for Konami.

No doubt your mate broke his NDA by telling you, though.

Realise I should clarify my comments a little there. Don't really care what it looks like, I'm more excited about the 8 player online mode. Even if it's identical to the arcade game, that alone should make it a must-buy in my book. One of the best arcade racing games ever.

any idea of cost? I like the idea of this, but I'm probably not going to pay over Ł10 for it . . .

Oh. My. F***ing. God!

News of this coming to PSN would have been exciting enough (the arcade machine was stupidly popular where I lived), but that Sumo Digital are doing it!
Oh happy days, happy days indeed!

We tried SO HARD to make The Italian Job : LA Heist into GTI Club. "Bomb Tag!!!" I said. "No time to implement," they said. Unfortunately I was a lowly tester and my incessant heckling fell on deaf ears. Instead our game was not good. At least the producer managed to steal my ideas to spout for the CVG interview, and then not implement them!
At least they put bomb tag into Crash 'n' Burn. Unfortunately it was based on circuits instead of freeroaming maps, defeating the entire point and turning it into some demented greyhound race...

Anyway, GTI Club, yay! All we need now is Thrill Drive Revo! "OH MY GOD!!!"

I like your thinking sir. Online Thrill Drive bus carnage would be made entirely of win.

These Sumo Digital guys are GOOD.

It will be a proper port.

Like other people here said, they should ressurect other classics like Daytona.
