GTA IV PS3 patched with Trophies News

PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

27 October, 2008

Rockstar has released a Trophy patch for Grand Theft Auto IV on PS3.

There are 51 of the shiny rewards to extract, and judging by the PS3Trophies.org listing, the line-up is the same as the Xbox 360 Achievements except for one, the Platinum Trophy called "Taking A Liberty".

As with the other retrospective Trophy patches for PS3 games, the GTA IV update is sadly not retroactive, so you will need to play through the game again to unlock them.

So how does that work if you've already played most or all of the game? Do you get them retroactively or do you have to play through again to get them?

EDIT: I'll read the actual article next time.

Play through GTA IV all over to get bragging rights? Never going to happen. The game was boring enough the first time around.

Do most new games get trophies out of the box no, by the way? Like Saints Row; does it have trophies in it?

BTW: I actually did play through Unchartered one more time after the trophies patch, I still did not get any trophies. As it turns out I'd have to uninstall and reinstall the entire game to get trophies. Can't be bothered.

Not sure I could go back to GTA4 after hanging out in Stillwater to be honest.

You didn't have to uninstall uncharted. You just had to start a new game after patching.

You only need to start a new game without medals loaded.

Might restart the game again (only got about 50% through before getting bored first time - trophies MIGHT add something.......but its a very small might)

Olemak.....I had the same problem too wtih Uncharted....no uninstall...just delete any previous saved games (apparently if the Uncharted detects any pre-trophy games saves, you wont be able to get any trophies)

I was planning on playing through again anyway, this is just an added bonus. Then again, I'm clearly one of the most easily-pleased people on eurogamer.

Sorry to say* but MS pr machine totally kicked Sonys arse with the whole achievement idea and it would seem continue to do so.

"As with the other retrospective Trophy patches for PS3 games, the GTA IV update is sadly not retroactive, so you will need to play through the game again to unlock them"...for fuck sake.

*not sorry really as 360 is boss, however I do not own a ps3, 2 yes and still use it.

If they did a 'fix the slower frame rate than the 360 version' patch as opposed to worthless trophies I might actually consider purchasing GTA IV.

I held back on buying this because I had a feeling this might happen. That and it was hyped a bit much for my tastes, but I think I'll have this now :)

Good luck getting "Kill a Rockstar developer in a ranked multiplayer match." trophy... do they even play it anymore? Or are the RS devs too busy bouncing on their stacks of cash?/

@DUFFMAN5

How do you expect they would do it, then? Check your save and unlock any trophies they can deduce from it?

Fantastic idea. Within 2 days EVERYONE on the internet would have the same trophies, from the same save. Which would make them completely worthless.

I don't know why but trophies don't give me the same buzz as upping my gamerscore on my 360. No way am I starting GTA again just for them.

look in to the zombie extra, they added. It spread like a virus which was started by the Rockstar crew. kill one and you get the zombie skin + the "kill a rockstar achievement"

leaving them free to play with their pots of cash.

Will meeting any trophy criteria subsequent to patch but with a savegame originally started pre-patch work, or do you have to start a new savegame with the trophy patch?

I don't care if I'm missed any already, but would be good to carry on my savegame and pick up a few trophies at least.
