GTA IV episode has new MP modes

Plus new weapons, cars and music.

Rockstar has revealed that the GTA IV downloadable content announced today will include new multiplayer modes, new weapons and vehicles, and a soundtrack with new music.

This morning USA Today revealed that the first of two exclusive Xbox 360 episodes is called The Lost and Damned and will be released on 17th February. Rockstar clarified this afternoon that that's a worldwide date, and pricing will be announced "soon".

The publisher also released the first GTA IV: The Lost and Damned screenshots.

The Lost and Damned stars Johnny Klebitz from Liberty City biker gang The Lost, while Niko from GTA IV itself plays only a small part. Rockstar's Dan Houser said the two characters were "very different", promising "a different side of Liberty City" and "tons of details and mysteries from the main story get explained".

"Making these episodes has enabled us to expand the narrative and the experience of interacting with a game world in really innovative ways," Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser added in this afternoon's official announcement.

"We hope fans of the game enjoy the new way of experiencing life in Liberty City contained in this first episode."

  • j1m.ch053n #6 3 years ago

i just hope the new weapons aren't hundreds of ak-47 clones. give me miniguns, chainsaws, flamethrowers, lightsabers, heat seekers, etc

Having a seperate character is a nice move. Though I doubt they can fix the fact that your immersion in the game (mainly from the graphics) is spoiled by a lack of things to do except 'drive, whinge, shoot, drive, get money, whinge, drive...'

people still play this game? :/

Hurrah, ditch the tedious depressing slav!

This will be just like Full Throttle, I can tell.

The single player stuff sounds kind of interesting, if it is different enough from the original game in approach and structure.
The multi-player was alway pretty shite, and i doubt this will change that.

I'b be suprised if these episodes came in at less than £10 each.

Are thay completely exclusive? or will they be coming to the PC version as well?

Who will care 10 months after GTA4 was released?
  • DugBriderider #12 3 years ago

This wil only be siginificant if people still have the game in Feb.
People will only keep the game that long if the Multiplayer is worth it.
    It isn't.

It fun, but lobbies are frustraiting, strategic depth is under control of the host (bad idea), and it seems to attract the worst kind of players. If Rockstar improve on all of that, I will go an pick up the copy I traded in a month ago for the DLC.

Unless this is something matching the scale of Vice City, I can't see it setting the gaming world on fire.

Good for the interested 360 owners though.

I don't quite understand this statement: "People will only keep the game that long if the Multiplayer is worth it. It isn't. "
I mean, where are the 8 million copies, then? Vanished into the ether, as MP is no good?

edit: well, I also understand that we tend to measure the whole world by our tastes - I can't understand the WoW thing, as much as I try - but it's not really like that. I think....

I'm still playing it at my leisurely in-my-30s-and-have-another-life pace, just opened the third island, done quite a lot of side missions - if this gets decent reviews (and is about 10 quid) it would be well timed for me.....I'm guessing there's a few other nostalgic, played all the GTAs people out there like me who will be happy to drop a few quid on it.

Sounds interesting. I wonder if it will come to PC? I mean, everyone knew GTAIV would eventually come to the PC, but this DLC crap I'm not so sure of.
  • stepneg #17 3 years ago

More decent coop modes like hangman's noose and I will buy it, laugh a minute that was with friends.
  • Skooch #18 3 years ago

Couldn't give a damn about the MP, it was a ropey first-attempt and was poor, but the offline stuff sounds pretty cool.

for the time, effort and money spent on this thing... theres no way it will have been worth it. only a fraction of people who play it, and by the sounds of things they stunted the main game to save stuff for DLC. (after the missions the game is an empty shell, easily the most boring GTA) im sure R* could have made IV a much better game for eveyone if they werent money grabbin bastards, and actually finished the product instead of feeding us a glorified HD GTA3!!!

microsoft and their backroom deals, ruined it for EVERYONE (even 360 owners) idiots thinking this will be some sort of silver bullet against the ps3. the hype is well and truely GONE!!! (even more so next year - "coming fall 2008" HA!)

lucky if this shifts a single xbox 360.

On what planet is Autumn/Fall in February?
  • neil_likes_bums #22 3 years ago

Well I'll be buying it. It's my choice. I chose to keep the game for this stuff, and I will love every GTA-soaked moment. :D
  • shotgun44 #23 3 years ago

while I loved the game I was a bit disappointed there was no parachutes/secret cars/car customisation/fighter planes etc. Shame I didn't have a 360 back then so I have the PS3 version and this sounds like it could be alright...
  • bad09 #24 3 years ago

This sounds great (especially more music, I love the GTA soundtrack - yes even 4!).

I bet this won't come cheap tho......
  • retr0gamer #25 3 years ago

Got bored of the game within a few weeks and spent the free MS points on geometry wars 2. Then I discovered Saints Row 2 which differs from GTA IV in that it's actually fun. I won't be getting this.
  • rhinoxious #26 3 years ago

The main game certainly didn't live up to its impossible hype - and the extra content had better get back to GTA's more amusing tone.

I started loving this series becuase you got a bonus for running over a whole line of buddhist monks, not because I wanted to save my tedious cousin's ass from his gambling debts ... etc .. etc ... yawn.
  • Kazzahdrane #27 3 years ago

I really really enjoyed playing through the story of GTAIV and all the side missions, so I guess this DLC is aimed at gamers like me. So what if it doesn't shift any 360s? I'll be happy if the new story is as good as Niko's tale.
  • David_Snakes #28 3 years ago

YEAH BUT SAINTS ROW 2 IS SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!!!

GTA4 was SOOOO boring, the characters were gay, the main guy was emo and shit. I just want to blow shit up and have fun,

    *gunshot*

I've fucking heard this so many times. I don't give a piss about Saints Row 2. It's garbage to me. GTA4 was excellent and this will probably be excellent as well.

    @yerawldda

I can tell by your comments that you don't have a clue.
No one thing will shift 360's, PS3's or Wii's. It's consumers' perception that shifts consoles. MS has been very shrewd this generation.... early launch, turning Sony exclusives into multi-platform games, exclusive DLC, robust online system, streaming movies and loads of games. And the perception MS is conveying is that we want happy gamers, quite the opposite of PS3's direction. I'm a happy gamer. There are no backroom deals....it's called big business :)

As to your "coming fall 2008 HA!" remark, I've been hearing Sony shout that to the rafters since 2006. Where's PS3 Home, GT5, KZ2? We've been waiting for them for years. The hype for them is truly GONE...("coming in 2009" HA!)
