GTA IV DLC to be released in February

It'll star a member of biker gang The Lost.

The first downloadable content for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV will be released on 17th February.

That's according to USA Today, which says the content will be comprised of a new episode titled The Lost and Damned. It'll star Johnny Klebitz, who belongs to Liberty City biker gang The Lost. GTA IV's main protagonist, Niko, will only have a bit-part in the episode.

"Johnny is a very different character than Niko, with a very different background," said Rockstar bossman Dan Houser.

"I can't go into too much detail on the story, because we try not to give away too much plot before the game is released. But I can say that the story will show you a different side of Liberty City."

Houser added that the actions you took in the main game won't affect how the story plays out in The Lost and Damned. However, he added, "Tons of details and mysteries from the main story get explained, so it will add a lot of colour to the main story."

Rockstar has yet to announce a price for the DLC, or to confirm whether the 17th February date applies globally.

Sounds better than expected DLC for 360 owners.

And I like the fact that it follows a different storyline. That'll ensure that those who bought it on the PS3 don't feel short-changed on the main game.

    Win-win.

Huh. Didn't think it could be done, but this totally has me more excited than a new town. Looking at Liberty City in a new light, through a different character, yeah, that sounds nice. Perhaps then I'll find that last elusive pigeon, aswell.

Not bad, I did wonder what the hell they are gonna to do to get GTAIV DLC working as an attractive must-buy extra content. So its just the first one that we know more about, still to find out the second DLC.

Will it show the fun side of Liberty City or will I be taking another fucking cousin bowling again?
  • Steroyd #5 3 years ago

heh so it's basically just Liberty City Stories.

Sounds better than expected DLC for 360 owners.

    What were you expecting?

A new story in Liberty City would be awesome
  • siro #7 3 years ago

Way, way, waaay too late imo though. Especially if it explains all kinds of mysteries from the main game, which I have all but forgotten about by now.

Sounds better than expected. Will play this alongside SFIV then.

Sounds good and, if R* manage to stick to the release date, it gives me enough time to enjoy the numerous Christmas releases and tie a few loose ends I've left in GTA IV :)

does this mean that you have to drive around on a fucking awful bike that handle so poorly in GTA?

clearly you won't have to because its GTA so you can nick a car but I wanted to slag off the bikes

Does this mean his story will have some variety, wait no it's GTAIV and that only has two mission types, i.e go somewhere kill everyone come back, or go somewhere, protect someone by killing everyone else, then come back.

They should have just made another San Andreas type game, I played that game for like 70 + hours, IV I played for about 27, by which time I'd finished the story, couldn't be arsed with multiplayer after a game in every mode, and got bored of the city.

...February....that's quite a long way from autumn when this was originally due out.

Ah well it's not like there's nothing else out at the moment to play, so for that I suppose I'm grateful :D

Nice, I've always fancied a badass biker videogame and now we've got this in february and that easyrider pastiche biker game (the title of which i cant remember)coming in the summer.

2009 is gonna be a great year for games.

    Ride to Hell?

So it's a toss up between GTAIV DLC vs RE5 vs KZ2 vs SF4 vs Silent Hill at around the same time. It suddenly drops to the bottom of the list even though it should be a lot cheaper.

I was more excited when the rumours were flying around that it would be a zombie apocalypse.

  • chessboxer #17 3 years ago

I thought people were expecting a new island and anything less would be a disappointment. At least that's what people have been saying since the DLC was announced.

Sounds great and I'll definitely be buying it but I'd have preferred a new location in all honesty. But then this is DLC for an existing game not an expansion pack as such so I can accept that.

    This sounds good. STFU whingers.

Liberty/Vice City Stories were both neat packages which brought something new to the table while clearly saving the devs on having to build new cities from scratch.

My only concern is that if they *don't* introduce different minigames/wardrobe choices/characters/radio stations/areas/websites then it'll essentially just seem like a handful of new levels with a new player skin...

It would be nice to play this and replay the main campaign in parallel and see/hear news stories emerging regarding the other character's exploits! If they introduce new bars/hideouts etc I wonder whether Nico will be able to access them too once the DLC is installed...

In any case, lets just face it, R* only bothered to start thinking this through well after the game came out, and they're winging it as we speak. Regardless of how good it ends up, it'll probably be released buggy and the 2nd ep won't be out till Summer!

Great game, and this new content will give it extra legs.
  • mashk #21 3 years ago

So we're no getting Vice City then : ( ?
  • Bangaioh #22 3 years ago

yes this does sound pretty good... I haven't even finished it with Niko so I don't know if I'm going to be an early buyer but it does sound like they could be going in the right direction... now, how much is this going to cost?
  • questing222 #23 3 years ago

    GTA ZOMBIE INFESTATION..... YAY!!!

The news that you will play a biker and his gang and that it will focus on showing a "Different side of Liberty City" all but confirms to me the rumours that the downloadable content will see you fighting off hordes of zombies that gradually infect the inhabitants of Liberty city.

Last month some hints were found in game, with a lot of zombie related stuff going on... see here..

    I'm very excited.

  • questing222 #24 3 years ago

the title says it all really.
The Lost (Biker gang name) and The damned (Being a term used for the undead)!!
If this DLC isn't an all out zombie appocolypse then i'll eat my hat.
  • tomjoadsghost #25 3 years ago

    @ panstre

yup, thats the one, thanks- it was bugging me not being able to remember.
  • Madder-Max #26 3 years ago

How much? THAT is the correct question.

    sounds good btw.
  • smelly #27 3 years ago

hopefully it'll be less boring than the full game was.
  • Farzlepot #28 3 years ago

How the hell was the main game 'boring'? It was a form of cinematic art, that's what it was, and I readily look forward to the next dose.
