GTA IV DLC to be available in shops?

GameStop says it'll cost 20 bucks.

The new downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV will be available in shops as well as via Xbox Live.

At least, that's what a new listing on the website of US retailer GameStop would suggest.

It prices GTA IV: The Lost and Damned at USD 19.99 - that's GBP 13 / EUR 15 in the old money.

According to GameStop that won't get you an actual disc, but a "token card" with a unique code that lets you buy the expansion pack via Live. You'll also get a two-sided poster.

Rockstar has yet to comment on the listing, or to announce a price for the new DLC. We do know, however, that The Lost and Damned will be released on 17th February. It'll follow the adventures of biker Johnny Klebitz and will feature new multiplayer modes, weapons, vehicles and music.

Look out for more info soon but in the meantime, why not take a trip down memory lane by reading our review of the original game?

I am missing the point here. If there is no disc why would anyone buy it in a shop? In fact its like buying MS points isnt it?

    @ matrim83

They want to reach as wide an audience as possible. With roughly 50% of 360 owners being offline, this might help. Given the millions pumped into the DLC it seems like a smart move.

    People like cases.

Also, if it came on a DVD it could then be sold on which would piss off Braben, a worthy cause.

$19.99 at the current exchange rate of 1.5.. makes it £20

    :-)

Good point Les, it's easy to forget that many people still live like barberians. : )

It's a good idea, as many will completely miss this if it's only available online.

These will be the same people that have their 360 Elite connected to their 50" HDTV via the yellow composite cable.

I sorted out a neighbour's TV connection only last week, and he'd had his console for over a year.

Head back to school and pay attention in maths, mate.

Ummmm... But if there's no disc then the "offliners" can't play the DLC anyway.

It did make me smile when I bought The Shivering Isles from GAME, installed the content, then sold it on again for pennies less than I'd originally paid for it...

I ended up losing the extra content when I switched to a 120GB drive, but by then the GOTY edition was eminently affordable!
  • degville #9 3 years ago

@Ryze I think his calculations were laden with irony... as no matter what the exchange rate often the $ is replaced with £

    ^ yeah, I noticed that...

I may be one of GTA IV's biggest fans, but given that Microsoft directed a $50million 'investment' for the DLC, I'd expect the expansion to be cheaper as a piece of DLC.

Perhaps I have merely been spoilt by things like Burnout Paradise.

    Or I am becoming meaner.

    Or the story isn't true.

"Ummmm... But if there's no disc then the "offliners" can't play the DLC anyway."

If they're completely offline, they obviously can't. But this might get them to plug in a LAN cable for once. Do you need a gold account to get XBLA stuff? In that case they might make an exception this time and let anyone that's able (and willing) to connect to the internet and pay for it get it.

The reason that it's priced at this level is that MS invested millions in it. With the deal they agreed that they would get a significant part of the DLC revenue.

$20 is what, 1600 ms points?
  • Kazzahdrane #14 3 years ago

This is completely pointless, other than the fact that it will let people know about the DLC by seeing it on the shelf. People who don't have their 360 online won't be helped by this - as matrim83 said it's essentially like buying MSP and spending them on the DLC as normal (but will probably be more expensive this way!)

    Nope.
  • michaelius #16 3 years ago

LoL at full Wipeout HD price for this crap :)
  • stevetuck #17 3 years ago

people still play this driving sim? :/
  • consignia #18 3 years ago

It's not completely pointless. It's obviously an attempt to get people connected to live, when they see the content on the shelf, they can purchase it and be motivated to get connected, and hopefully spending on live. It still isn't a solution for those who don't have the bandwith or connection to get it.
  • asifasifasif #19 3 years ago

Surely this is nowt to do with getting people online and everything to do with making concessions to bricks and mortar outfits who are being threatened by downloadable games..?
  • Lucky88 #20 3 years ago

So is it new cars for the online part... or for offline.. as i already thought all the cars where available in both modes?

But new weapons sounds good, glad i decided to keep the Good old 360, may have to reinvest in GTA
  • pha #21 3 years ago

    Thanx, but no thanx.

Didn't even finish the original content and much rather spend my money on Fallout 3 DLC.

    2008 GOTY? Fallout 3 FTW!
  • Widge #22 3 years ago

Its mad, Rockstar could have milked the game for loads of cash in the interim period... on both platforms even, downloadable safehouses, clothes shops (basically all the cack missing from San Andreas which I actually quite liked!). Dunno if the new DLC adds this though.
