GTA IV DLC confirmed for autumn News

Xbox 360 News by Ellie Gibson

17 September, 2008

Microsoft has confirmed Grand Theft Auto IV downloadable content will be coming to Xbox 360 in time for Christmas.

There was a bit of confusion, you may recall, after Take-Two suggested it could be released as late as January 2009.

But yesterday's press release announcing the Xbox 360 price cut stated, "The first of the Xbox 360 exclusive downloadable episodes for this record-breaking game will be available this autumn - the only console with new Grand Theft Auto IV content available this Christmas."

This ties in with what a secret source told us recently, namely that the DLC will be arriving in November. In the absence of any official confirmation from Rockstar - roll on November.

Damn! MUST FINISH GTA4!!!! Great news.

Oh, and sod all you lot who think GTA4 was "meh" "crap" "overhyped" etc, I think it's stunning, sure not the best in series in terms of gameplay and missions but it's still a bloody good game! Also remember (according to Rockstar), not only is it more realistic but is also a direct sequel to 3 (not SA) so missions would be similar, as far as I'm aware the sequels will expand what you can do just like the last gen ones.

Sold it before I completed it, just couldn't be arsed repeating the same mission over and over, it seemed like it was going to go on forever.

15-20 hour completion times FTW!

I bought the PS3 version, still wondering what the DLC could be though.

Seeing as I haven't finished the original (40 %) I probably shouldn't be sorry I went that way. Great game btw, just to freaking big. Scrap that, to freaking big without horses and swords in it:p

Thought GTA IV was great not a 10 but a solid 9 but unfortunately was hyped to death and there is now the inevitable fallout.

I held onto my copy just waiting for this so cant wait and will make for some great GTA action over the cold winter nights.

SR2 just looks to gimmicky for me with not enough substance.

I enjoy playing us Nico but no Armani suits are going to cover up how ugly he is

I thought GTA4 was the second best game ever. Have long since finished the story and still play it. And I thought that 3, VC and SA were all shite. A 10 if ever there was one.

It is still in the top 5 most played 360 games with more than 500K UU a day, so I'd say - yes.

San Andreas was the only one I finished and I can only think of two missions that weren't one time through breezes. GTA3 had the vile final mission, my save corrupted halfway through Vice City (with 64 hidden packages lovingly sought out) and I just couldn't face starting again, San Andreas was amazing and I just hoovered that up. Oh and I got all the way through Liberty City Stories.

I have GTA4 earmarked to finish, but in the same fashion as I have Oblivion earmarked to finish. Failing that, I could get it on PC, get a 360 joypad and play it at lunch for the rest of the year!

Its a great game though.

Only played a handful of missions on the new GTA - got to one which killed me off a couple of times and haven't been at all interested in going back to it for single-player. Played the multiplayer aspect a fair bit, but that became boring too. Now I jump on occasionally to have a run around the world with a mate or two. I've just played GTA too much to care about continuing with the missions.

DLC will be interesting if it isnt merely added missions. If there are a few new things in there (multiplayer objectives/BASE Jumping?) I might be interested in purchase. It's a quality game - but perhaps more so if you're new to GTA.

I've finished GTA IV with both endings - and I'm surprised that I've done this within 5 months.

I finished GTA III, but not Vice City and San An due to the targeting and save systems.

Vice City Stories is still unfinished on the PSP due to the save system, and I played LCS to the last mission without cheating, then got pissed off with the save system (lack of decent checkpointing) before putting the game down for 12-18 months.

I then used the health / armour cheats to ascend the hill on the last mission (didn't know it was the last), and then had to go back and complete it without cheating.

IV has been finished promptly due to the taxis, targeting and save system. It's as simple as that.

Bring on the DLC.

Just finished the Story Missions last night, fantastic game! I really enjoyed Vice City but ended up hating San Andreas with its unlikeable main character and overly complicated play mechanics.

Rockstar, you made a believer out of me with GTA IV. Can't wait to see what the DLC is, though I haven't touched the multiplayer at all so really hoping that rumour about episodes starring a new character in Liberty City are true.

...although GTA IV is MUCH shorter than I thought it was. The issue is with repetitive missions.

The cover and targeting system is fantastic now though. Gunfights are finally fun.

Hopefully there's more music in the DLC too, as I want to buy it all on CD. Anyone know where I can get it without recording from the line out?

I completed all the story missions with a fair amount of arsing about in around 30 hours. I didn't think it was anything like as ridiculous as san andreas and a lot more interesting to play/mess about in. I was on the verge of trading in my copy but now I think I'll hold on for the new content, unless the pc version is completely amazing that is...

I love the GTA games but despite owning both consoles I bought the PS3 version because I didn't think I would miss a few extra missions. If the DLC turns out to include more gameplay elements then I may consider getting a second hand 360 copy in the future.

I prefer the 360's superior graphics and lack of mandatory install, but I REALLY like the PS3's gritty, grimy look and I love controlling motorbikes with the Sixaxis.

PS3's online is junk, though.

^(Collymilad) - hardcore gamer geek in 'only sees his own perspective' SHOCKER!

I've TONS of PS2 games and loads of 360 games that remain unfinished because I have a CAREER. I'd watch a playthrough by a decent player if I could (where's the facility?)

For example - I haven't finished BIOSHOCK yet - as much as I want to. Neither have I played THE ORANGE BOX as I've banned myself from buying it until I finish Bioshock and more of my other games.

It's as simple as that.

I agree, I have both consoles and I was only ever going to get it for the 360, for achievements, DLC and the fact that I think the 360 is a much better console.

I've still got to do the 30 hour playthrough, and got to 92% before I gave up on trying to get 100%. Think I'll start playing this again a few weeks before the DLC comes out, try and finish everything then get on that

@ Ryze

I admire that attitude, I have so many games that I haven't finished and I keep saying I will, I've got to stop buying games as soon as they come out! Bioshock is a game I promised myself I'd finish but still haven't...fuck it, I'm gonna finish it!

LOL, I think it funny that there's a Saint's Row 2 advertisement in a news article about GTA IV.
Anyway, looking forward to hearing what this new content is. Perhaps a nice garage to store more vehicles, rather than just keeping 6 cars altogether outside the three hideouts. Or bikes if that's your preference.

Meh, GTA IV did not live up to what we all thought. VC and SA pushed the series forward alot. And the fact its a sequal to GTA3 does not mean it should deteriorate in quality. Merry XMAS says MS, more like 360 owners to MS, more cash in their pockets, but I doubt it will have been worth £25m. If the DLC is just extra missions and what not, I am saying good bye to it before it even reaches the PS3, paid for an over-rated game which has not been completed and the online just sucks *****.
My two pence.

I got up to the lawyer bit, but they never phoned me back, I waited about 3 weeks worth of "in game time" just driving / flying around etc.... So i started again, same thing happened again.

If they can't even make the game work properly, I've no interest in playing it.

I don't understand all this GTA4 bashing. I'm not saying it wasn't a bit disappointing but it's still an excellent game. Even on Vice City and SA, the missions do get samey because you've played many of them.

What's your favourite game on the 360 at the moment, there must be one that you think is awesome?

See, a true member of the SDF can't answer questions like that cyber_nicco :)

As for GTA4, got rid of mine yonks ago. It's not that it was shite, it was just that I was never going to have enough time to invest in it. The lover gives me looks of death if I'm on my 360 for any more than 90 minutes a night :(

GTA IV was far from lacking in quality.

It simply didn't have as much CONTENT and VARIETY as San Andreas which was pushing the boat out and throwing all that they could at the PS3 in terms of the game world.

This obviously isn't happening with GTA IV, as they're going to drip feed it via sequels and DLC.

As long as I see quality, variety and value, then bring it on, I say.
