I generally pick up advance copies of every game i've ever had for the x360 from my local asda. Not been banned so far!

Trick is to wait until the entertainment desk staff go home (about 9-10pm but varies with stores) then ask at the front info desk and someone will just get it from the drawer/storeroom without checking the release dates.

You'll only get it a couple of hours ahead of release day but it saves being so tired when you play it.

Geee... why can't anybody give me a straight answer and tell me when the game will be out here in the local shops? - it's really hard to plan when I get sick and have to take a few days off work!!

Won't happen.. that's just hype and paranoia. MS (or Sony) don't care that a few gamers are able to get hold of the game a few days earyly and then punish them... just imagine the bad press this will cause?

The ban rumour went around when Halo 3 came out and Im pretty sure it was only MS staff that could get banned.

Gameplay often dispatch on Wednesdays for normal new releases, so maybe we'll get lucky and they'll dispatch on Friday and we'll get it on Saturday \o/

They would never ban someone for playing a game before the release date. It would cause a major uproar because at the end of the day, the consumers are called the "end users" for a reason. We are at the end of a very long line of people responsible for the game.
If a consumer plays it early then the retailer is at fault, then it goes up to Rockstar who are at fault for shipping to retailers early.

Its well over a week to release, why are they shipping so soon? Maybe this is an attempt to get shops to break the street date to increase already sky-high hype. Rockstar aren't stupid, everything they do is for a reason.

According to the Amazon order status my copies of the SE are to be despatched on the 24th April.

Just got back from my local retailer who said they would have it as early as coming monday but were not selling before midnight of the 28th. Each game sold risks a €1000,- fine.

Forget about the pre-order then, I'm going to see if I can find a smaller retailer that doesn't know about these silly rules :P

Considering the hefty warning Argos got for allowing such a stupid error, I doubt they'll make the same mistake again.
Grand Theft Auto: SA had strict guidlines surrounding early sales, and I have no doubt GTAIV's will be even tighter!
R* will probably fire a warning shot in the direction of major distrubtors and retail outlets.

I got Chaos theory a week early from a certain Jersey based company. I have ordered GTA4 with the same company. Might get lucky!

There are considerable fines involved with early releasing and besides what you might believe publisher can easily restrict supply to the stores who do break streetdates without much lose since gamers will generally just go elsewhere to get it.

I live in Australia, Brisbane and my EB games asked me if im coming on midnight launch on Monday. They usually ask this 3-4 days before launch if it happens at miodnifgt so it could get early release

mine arrived this morning from GAME, courier turned up at 7.45am. Awesome game

Having seen them running side to side I'll be getting the ps3 version as the colour palette fits the graphical style that little bit more.

The fact that the ps3 version allows free online play makes it superior by default, do not let anyone strip you of your right in free-online play....do not support any corporation that wishes to force such a system.

Online gaming was and will stay free, its the sole responsibility of each european and non-european for that matter to ensure that microsofts schemes fail....its bad enough that they are monopolizing the OS market and average europeans and europeans institutions have to pay billions yearly for a bloated-OS, and its taking us years to realize the consequences of that.

Say no charging for online......do you really want to support a service that not only charges for online, but actually has advertisments in a paid service, they make you pay to watch ads.

Well we will see if this free service will cope under the amount of people trying to play GTAIV online when it comes out. Plus all this stuff about advertisements. I haven't seen any. And if there is any its on the market place. Which makes perfect sense.

1up writter andrew pfister has talked about his first preview on GTAIV, he writes in neogaf as 'skip'....he said he asked the rockstar tech guys and they told him that the ps3 version is slightly better, the 1up ps3 preview team have also gave a similar opinion, saying that the ps3 version has less 'pop-up' and frame-rate isssue.

However, its not about which is the 'better' version as much as it is about 'principle'. the idea is simply not to support any corporation that aims to strip us from our right in free-online gaming, it is the responsibility of each one of us that we do not fund anyone that aims to control us, but judging from the few responses here...i see that many are already willing to bend over.

the link you gave talked about a rumour from rrlmuk forums and someone tried to impersonate corbet. has nothing to do with the 1up preview.

i,m talking about 1up writer andrew pfister who wrote in neogaf about his first preview of GTAIV, he asked some rockstar tech guys and they told him the PS3 version is better, which caused many x-fans to flame him at the 1-up boards, but even after that he didnt deny what he said.

It was the 'spread like wildfire' line that did it for me. ;)
