Is it coming out on a Tuesday for any particular reason? Or am I confused?

What penalty might be imposed for a store breaking the date?

I don't have a 360 or PS3 so I definitely won't buy this either before or on it's release date, but I'm very interested to see what retailers do for what is likely to be the biggest game launch of all time.

Same thing happened with the Halo games, and San Andreas, I believe.

I'm not sure if there's any particular reason it is out on a Tuesday LOLLERS, supposed to be a worldwide release, so perhaps it's just to match up with America. That or it is the latest they can release it in the month for financial reasons.

There is no penalty for breaking street dates. Microsoft and Sony usually simply threaten to not guarantee future delivery times and amounts. Reality is that you can't NOT give stock to huge chain stores if you expect to sell in any useful quantity.

There's bound to be some place that breaks the street date, always is. In some ways story's of certain stores breaking the street dates and people posting info on the game early has a habit of increasing the excitement.

Still not decided whether I'm gonna take the day off work, I'm tempted, but I'd be more tempted if it was a Friday and I could have had a long weekend out of it.

It won't matter in the future, all games will require an online unlock like Steam so everyone will get it at the same time (server overload pending)

Well, I spoke to my local small games shop, who broke the street date for Super Mario Galaxy and Assassin's Creed, as well as pretty much any other game I've bought from them recently, and they said that they'd been made to sign a contract saying that they'd stick to the street date or face legal action.

I got to the collection point (i.e. I'd reserved it and paid for it at the till) in Argos to collect my early copy of Halo 3 before some bright spark realised it wasn't due for release for a few days. No amount of reasoning would prise it from his claws either - gutted. :-(

10 million copies in the first week, I reckon.

Because games are released in the US on Tuesdays, not Fridays like us.

Where's the best chance an average man's got of getting this on launch day? Attempting to get Mario Kart Wii on launch day last friday ended in abject failure, and I only just barely managed to get it the next day.

Bear in mind I can't get anywhere till after 6pm because I work :(

just try the less obvious shops, like argos, woolworths, supermarkets etc. Places like game and gamestation will be more difficult to get them as that will be the first place most people go. I picked up Mario Kart on launch day from woolies at 1pm, they had loads...

You are not a clever person are you? USA get games on tuesdays and EU fridays usually. If its going to be worldwide it has to be released tuesday 29 everywhere. Right?

If I cant pick it up on Tuesday then I'm screwed till Thursday, as Wednesday is Queen's Day over here in Holland, when everything shuts down, people wear orange clothes en masse and generally get drunk...oh well... I can guess I'll survive :)

@ LazyDan - get to your nearest 24hr supermarket in good time for midnight and you'll be fine. Not sure what all these MKW shortages are about. I picked it up at 5pm on release day from HMV in Leeds, but Game, Zavvi and everywhere else had loads of them.

I've pre-ordered with Game. They usually get them to you a day early, but being a Tuesday release I reckon to do this they will have to send them out on a Friday.

Anyone pre-order Halo3 with Game and remember what day they got it? I got my Halo 3 from littlewoods about a week after release but it only cost me £26 :)

The 29th means that stuff may have to be despatched on the previous Friday, which could lead to early deliveries for some.

I'm afraid there is a rather large fine if a retailer breaks street date. It's been around for a couple of years now and doesn't just cover games, it's on books, cd's, dvd's etc...

In Little Rock, Arkansas, investigators believe that a residential fire Monday afternoon was caused by an Xbox 360 console.

While no one was at the home, the house nearly burned down as flames charred the interior.

“My Xbox 360 has the rings of death, which means something gone wrong you have to send it back for repair. Generally it’s over heating inside,” gamer Carl Olson told Today’s THV.

According to investigators, the source of the fire was traced to the power cord of an Xbox 360.

“It was melted and it looked like they had it against the wall in on edge and things like that need a little space to dissipate heat,” Little Rock Fire Department Captain Jason Weaver said.

Back in 2005, Microsoft began providing replacement power cords to Xbox 360s, citing fire concerns.

“It seems really unlikely. I’ve been gaming for years and I haven’t seen anything like that,” Olson said.

The Fire Marshal estimates more than $100,000 worth of property damage to the house

I ordered Halo3 from game and it came on the Tuesday. I remember as I was at a football match that night and didnt get home until late and had to prop my eyes open to play it.

You do know that most CD's and DVD's release date is a Monday but you can always get them on the Friday.
