Gray Matter to be released next March News

PC News by Oli Welsh

7 October, 2009

German publisher dtp entertainment has said that it will finally release Gray Matter - the first adventure game from cult creator Jane Jensen in over a decade - in March 2010.

The PC game was originally expected in late 2007, then postponed into 2008, then suffered a further delay into 2009 when dtp replaced the original Hungarian developer with a French outfit, Wizarbox.

Gray Matter is the first game by Jensen since the conclusion of her much-loved Gabriel Knight series of supernatural mysteries with Gabriel Knight 3 in 1999. It concerns reclusive Oxford neurobiologist Dr. David Styles and his student assistant Samantha Everett, and their attempts to explain the appearance of Styles' deceased wife at his mansion, Dread Hill House.

The release date was revealed as dtp announced the voice cast for the game, including Steven Pacey, a veteran British TV actor with credits stretching back from Spooks through Lovejoy to Blake's 7.

Gabriel Knight 3 wasn't really a conclusion, more the last part Jane Jensen was able to write and design before Sierra turned their back on adventure games.
But I'm happy to see that Gray Matter will really be released, finally! :D

"Dread Hill House"? Oh dear. What, is the main villain going to be called Dr. Morbidius McSinister?

Hehe, good point. :D
I wondered myself why the name promises so obviously that terrible things will happen.
But Jane Jensens writing is always excellent, so it may have a reason...

Really looking forward to this. GK was always my favourite adventure series, and this is supposed to be a spiritual successor. Maybe if it's successful they'll look into restarting GK4.

I bet it ends up with the good doctor accidentally giving his wife a lethal overdose of painkilling drugs during her rehearsals for a comeback world tour.

Anyone else get a strong "Alone in the Dark" vibe from those screenshots. "Interesting" camera angles, Old Dark House, period fixtures, no NPCs...

Gabriel Knight ranks as one of my all time favourite games although ashamedly I never got around to the sequels.

I'm really looking forward to this now.

Never played a Gabriel Knight game, but I've still been itching to see more of Grey Matter for ages.
Can anyone tell me what makes Jane Jensen's games stand apart from, say, Benoît Sokal's?

Wow, yeah, "Dread Hill House." I was interested up to that point.
