Report ignites the rumour bomb.

Grand Theft Auto V may be set in Hollywood, according to an idiosyncratic report on VG247.

The blog added that a reveal could happen at a Max Payne 3 event "soon".

Rockstar apparently had no comment to make on the matter. Surprise.

Grand Theft Auto IV - the world's fastest selling videogame before Modern Warfare 2 came along - was released in April 2008. Eurogamer editor Tom Bramwell awarded 10/10.

Hollywood, assuming we're talking 'Vinewood' in Los Santos, is a hell of a step down from the scale of previous GTA locations. It's like setting an entire game around Liberty City's Chinatown...

So anyway, I wouldn't be surprised that, if this game is real, it's coming out of Leeds rather than Edinburgh.

Hype scam? Trollbaiting? We're just reporting what's hot and what we think you might like to kept up to date on. I don't know who VG247's source is, but editor Pat Garratt is usually confident of something when he goes to press.

I think that this could be a really good setting for the next GTA. Lots of potential for ripping the michael out of celebrities & the movie industry etc.

I don't care where it is anymore. They need to update the engine and the structure first before I touch another.

GTA was great for a while, but after playing 4 relatively the same games and never finishing one of them due to stupid control issues or flawed mission structure I'm quite done with how it is now.

Wasn't there an announcement, or at least some developer quotes, that they were gonna be sticking with Liberty City for a while yet, given the huge ammount of work that went into creating it?

i guess if they say there might be a GTAV reveal at a MP3 event more people will tune in to it?

just making my way through TLAD then on to TBOGT love being back in liberty city..........but FFS make everyone in the USA repeatedly try to get in the wrong side of the car and drive on the wrong side of the road without realising, then go out in a real car and have to think `am i on the right side?` well maybe thats just me :/ anyway GTAV:LONDON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's so many driving sandbox games out now, be interesting to see what ideas they come up with to seperate them from the Saints Row, Just Cause, and Crackdown franchises. I think they should just keep pushing towards an RPG style of gameplay with deep combat and high customization. I'd like to see it set in Japan or Hong Kong, a Shenmue/Yakuza type situation.

Have been a fan of GTA series since GTA III. Have to say that whilst GTA IV was a great game, it was a bit too serious for my liking. Bring back the humour of Vice City and San Andreas but definately move out of the States.

How about setting it in Sydney, Paris....or Torquay?

GTA Barcelona would be amazing but I'm guessing that would put more emphesis on driving, which would be a bad move off the back of the handling model in IV.

I guess setting it in America gives them the structure of 'blocks' which makes designing and generating the city on the fly easier.

GTA NEPAL... Mad Sherpa Handling Skillz though they already did that for a short segment in Uncharted 2.

Like I said before, I'm going to say Mexico City again because its huge, colorful, and spicey. And lots can be done from Aztecs, mariachis to luchadores.

Kind of sick of this GTA series now. I'd like to see more focus on L.A Story, which is really Rockstar's most original game since The Bully.
