Not looked forward to a game, as much as I do this one, in quite a long time.

I think that the reviews for GTA games are always last minute for some reason.

I wouldn't say better, but it'll be a more complete experience. PS3 "approach" will be rather okish I believe, so our fellow PS3-only mates shouldn't worry.

Cop_Killa, I remember that part (of life, I mean). It was somewhat cool. I clearly remeber bashing Nirvana's Nevermind, because they've sold a lot. I loved Bleached because no one knew them by then.
Anyway, then I fucking grew up, and realised that those things are not related.

It was fun though, we were kinda punk, and intelectual, we even heard Psychic TV and other realy stupid stuff.

Could be GOTY this one, just remember you only get the full GTA 4 experience on Xbox 360, only 159.99.

I enjoyed this article, and the guy seems to know what he's on about. His answer to the last question in particular I agree with, and is a pretty big reason why I enjoy GTA (compared to it's clones).

Interestingly, not ONCE in any GTA have I found myself saying "I'm glad this game is so controversial, it would be no fun at all if they took the controversy out".

You can bash GTA for the unabashed mainstream consumerist furore it has created, but you can't deny that GTA is a unique experience, deformed clones notwithstanding.
Also, GTA wasn't always 'mainstream'. I loved it when it was a bunch of 2d sprites running around top-down, and I love it now (though admittedly slightly less - the franchise is so popular now that it feels less personal, and I can't help but subconsciously think that success = 'selling out' on some level).

So yeah... I'm not as excited as some of you seem to be - I'm not getting nosebleeds from sheer trepidation or anything - but I did pre-order it, so I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Edit: the controversy has little to do with my enjoyment of GTA. After all, the GTA series has nothing a run of the mill gangster movie doesn't have. In fact, unlike a gangster movie, much of the controversial content is incidental rather than central to the story. For instance, if I decide to spend three hours beating homeless people to death, that's my prerogative, and as such, says more about my psyche than the game itself.

Until recently I wasn't really excited about the prospect of another GTA. To be honest I had just about had my fill by the end of GTA VC even though GTA SA improved on it in many ways.

However having read how much attention to detail has been spent on the character animation, lighting effects, gameplay enhancements etc. that were not possible on the PS2. It is hard not to get drawn in by the growing anticipation for this game.

Perhaps all the hype will prove to be so much hot air, however, if it is anywhere near as good as it looks, then you would have to be daft to miss out on it, just because it has been done before.

Like a couple of you have already stated, my interest in this was pretty much zero up until a few weeks ago, then the big ole hype train gathered up speed, the features and groovy new stuff began to leak out, and fuck me, I couldn't ignore it any longer.
