Gran Turismo TV in early August News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

15 July, 2008

Sony has announced that Gran Turismo TV will be available from 1st August.

GT TV offers downloadable TV shows about cars via Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. There will be some free content as well as pay-per-view shows like Top Gear and D1 Grand Prix.

"This is the true beginning of Gran Turismo TV," said a gravelly voice over the Sony E3 conference trailer for the service.

Prices are yet to be established.

GT TV was another way for Sony to talk about the versatility of the PlayStation Network, alongside its PS3 video store that will go live sometime tonight and let you rent and buy films or telly shows - although Sony has yet to confirm the video store for Europe.

Top Gear is the best show on telly. How can you beat car darts, or turning a robin reliant into a space shuttle ( almost anway ). It cannot be beat, ever!

Yes Top Gear is great Telly but that's the point. I pay TV license for that (and Sky for endless repeats) I don't need to get it on my GAMES CONSOLE too......

Despite Top Gear being included in the lineup - and being an ingame feature rather than something off the PSN store - this just has "US only" written all over it, doesn't it? Just like the movie store.
With all the licensing deals that always have to fall into place with video content, I don't really think it's too much of a stretch to think something like this is going to be difficult - or time consuming - to get in place for a whole bunch of European countries (unless it's going to be just the UK, which obviously make the rest of us feel just as shafted as if it was the US only).

Hey they could remake Gremlin's Top Gear instead! Actually, that's even a worse idea. :P

So let me get this straight. My licence money actually pays for Top Gear to be made. Now the BBC have sold the shows to make more money, and Sony want me to pay to see them again?

What's the point of having this within a game purchase? Because it's about cars?

As soon as they announced this my first reaction was "that's messy". Shouldn't this be in the PSN Store with all the other TV downloads? Having video content in different places isn't a great idea. I can understand if it's purely game related such as watching GT5p races or Signstar performances, but even then I think there would something quite cool about accessing gaming replays from the same place as all the other video content on a system.
