Gran Turismo TV cheap for two weeks News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

31 July, 2008

Gran Turismo TV launches worldwide tomorrow, and pay-per-view content such as Top Gear will be discounted for the first two weeks.

That means you can download the adventures of Jeremy Clarkson for just USD 0.99 (GBP 0.50), according to Sony suit Taku Imasaki and the US PlayStation blog.

Other shows, such as a trip round the Italian Ferrari factory with Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi or the Japanese car show Best Motoring, will also be available. Up to eight separate episodes can be downloaded at once.

After the two week period has finished, pay-per-view shows will start from USD 1.99 (GBP 1).

The Gran Turismo TV update will fix some gameplay problems such as penalty judgements, too. Online physics collisions have been improved because you asked for them, and there will be more tyres to choose from in Time Trial races. Vroom.

Is this US only? And if not, which European countries get this?

Somehow, I'm thinking my country won't get this. I'm looking forward to being proved wrong.

By "USD 0.99 (GBP 0.50)" Rob did of course mean to say "USD 0.99 (GBP 1.50)". Now that Rock Band has proven that we are all idiots who don't being being financially raped the true value of a British Gaming Pound we can be charged whatever we like. And we will pay it, for some reason.

I give up on the GT series. I actually defended GT5p when it came out - a valid way to spread costs I thought. This sort of update is taking the pish though. There are plenty of other things which need sorting out before you add pointless money grabbing features like this. Like being able to have a private race or even race with friends at all. GT5 is years away (they mentioned 2010). Sony have officially dropped the racer ball big time - in fact they dropped it long ago, I was just too optimistic to see it.

If the Top Gear is in HD, I'd probably give it a go once, to see real cars nice and sharp. Then take GT5P out of my console and play Burnout Paradise again. Don't get me wrong, I like both, but Burnout is more about being fun.

@Benno. That's also what I want to know. And also the Nurburgring which was apparently on show at the Sony Gamers Day (or some other event) earlier this year.

@DrDamn hehe I tend to agree however I'm still deluded enough to think that private races will come when home comes and it will all be nicely integrated - I think people laugh at me though :)

I don't think Top Gear is filmed in HD I'm afraid. I'm waiting for it to appear on BBC HD - maybe the next series?

Hope Top Gear is in HD, or they are taking the piss charging UK users for content we have already paid for through the license.

Erm... what's the appeal of watching videos from within a game... and those you can watch for free on national TV anyway? Also last time I checked the GTTV mode, when you're downloading a video, you cannot do anything else except wait for it to finish! Not for me I'm afraid but I'm sure the petrolheads will make use of it.

£1 is not a bad price to pay for a TG episode, as the BBC never repeat the full program and Dave always edit it for ad breaks

I can watch the USA one over and over again.

50p, even better.

The only Top Gear episode that's in HD is the Polar special, it's SD otherwise.

@ darren "...downloading a video, you cannot do anything else except wait for it to finish!"

that's something that pisses me off to no end! one would think that with 7SPE's it should be possible to do 2 things simultaneously. like, download and play ... somethimes it does work... however what I really want is to listen to my own music while playing (music stored on my external HDD)

will that ever happen?

oh and about this article... sorry, rip of sony but you are tacking the pish. as somebody said before me, it's on DAVE all f*cking day long...

you can watch top gear for free on Freeview or BBC iPlayer so how can they justify charging people for it?
