I am trying so hard to see if there is any of those jaggies that you can clearly see when playing PGR3 or Forza 2 and I just can't.

I am not too interested in the PS3 (I have never really been a PlayStation fan) but the Gran Turismo series always and I mean always is the best looking driving game and GT5 is no exception.

Shame the article doesn't mention whether these screenshots are from the Wii version or PS3 version.

Can't see any significant difference between this and PGR4, not that either of them are bad looking mind.

Very nice. If only they can make it a good racing game too this time... I love driving cars in GT just like anybody else, but the races were still so bland in GT4...

The sceenshots don't like inspiring at all in my opinion. The car models just look a bit dull (especially the interiors). They just don't have that wow factor, so many games are going photo-realistic and these look a bit too wide of the mark.

I suppose if the AI is still awful it doesn't matter anyway.

That's because they fortunately didn't go overboard with shiny-shiny effects like almost everyone else these days.

That's really fucking impressive, sorry but Forza? It may be a better game, but it comes no where near this visual quality.

No I don't need glasses thanks :)

I think it's just missing something, the environment just looks so bland and dull it immediately takes me out of the moment. I cover motorsport (for photography) 30-40 times per year and I've never seen such sterile looking enviroments.

Oohh, I can see an Alfa Romeo Brera in one of the pictures (the Garage one with ten cars in two rows..)! I would love to pimp that car up to become a Ferrari beater! :D

Awesome graphics, by the way. Sterile, but awesome.

Polyphony know what they're doing. They managed near-photorealism at times on the fucking PS1, let alone this generation.

No other racing game even comes close, and if you think otherwise, you'll just have to accept that you're blind to this kind of thing.

There's a Lancia Delta Integrale in there too, which is everything you need to make me buy a racing game.

But the Alfa 159 looks so much nicer (while similar). But then I think it's probably the best looking production car ever. :)

at TGS i walked past the queues for GT5 and while looking at a video wall. It was showing one of the in garage sections, and i was convinced it was a video. Not sure if the in garage stuff is pre-rendered or not but it was as good if not better than most Hollywood CG effects. just stunning. Also the in car view is amazing. I'll probably never use it but it looks fantastic.

If only there was a PS3 emulator for 360 ;)

This will be great, but I would want a lot more 'content' in terms of damage/features/AI etc that Forza2 brings to the arena. I'm afraid this will look great and play brilliantly when lapping all alone but come on... they've been doing the same things for an age and its not going to tempt me to get a PS3.

I like the sneaky photographs they've put in there to mix things up ;)

The disguised GTR is neat touch, they should add a "test driver" mode where you have to do laps of the Nordschleife in a heavily camoed mule whilst avoiding spy photogs. Or a mode where you get to be the photographer, and hide in the bushes until the Porsche Panamera comes past. That'd probably be rubbish though =(

Heh, to be fair, it does say "GRAN TURISMO TV" in huge letters in the corner. Also, the photos made me do a double take which just goes to show how realistic the cars in the game look.

If I ever buy a PS3 (not at the current price) GT5 will be one of the first games I'll get. I wish they'd put it on the 360. :(

Also, I like the new covered up prototype car screenshots. :)

ever since the first time that i laid eyes on the GT franchise back in the year AD 1998 i have dreamed of seeing photorealistic graphical cars never mind the damage modelling, etc just seeing cars that would look as good if not better than the real thing had me drooling. And now, it has happened and any person who loves cars and graphics that do cars justice should be thanking the guys who work at PD. and the shot of the white porsche GT2, at first i thought it was an ingame shot but then once i analyzed it some more i realized that it is video footage off of GT TV. but it caught me out none the less! I think this is what we (the GT fans) have always dreamed of. OK Forza 2 was more realisitic in the way the cars handled and the tuning was more life like e.g. the way the downforce settings were told to you in lbs, but man it is just piss poor in giving the cars the justice they deserve when it came to visuals.

The cars are nice (but that's a pretty standard feature of any modern decent racer). My problem is the dull, bland backgrounds. Totally Meh imo, PGR4 looks alot nicer/ prettier.

I prefer racetracks to street tracks. Not the least because, as obvious if you compare the screenshots, it looks a lot more photorealistic. PGR4 looks nice, but very videogamey. Of course that's also because nobody except Polyphony ever seems to get the lighting quite right.

If you prefer bland but realistic to exquisite and beautiful but 'not teh real' then fair enough. I like the visual stimulation of something a little different. What do you think is harder, to copy the visual beauty of reality or to surpass it? Yeah it's not 'real' but neither is Jessica rabbit and I'd still give her one if I could :)

It's not like PGR is a masterpiece of artistic interpretation of reality - they're clearly aiming for photorealism too, but just aren't quite as good at it. Some slightly fancier surroundings don't change that.

Yeah because it obviously takes the same amount of skill/time to model a grey concrete track bereft of much detail or atmosphere as it would to create a pretty and endearing metropolis....Meh.

There are alot of factors, lighting and such are important but my point still stands. It's alot easier to model something like a plain cardboard box (or anything man-made such as bland tarmac tracks) then say a tree/bush or animal, ya-know, 'scenery'? Something I personally feel is important in a racer or pretty much any other type of game.

Lets say, using Cinema 4D, I modeled a pencil that looked photo realistic and you modeled a tree that looked beautiful but perhaps not quite as 'real' as my pencil, would it be fair for me to label myself the superior 3D artist? Me thinks not chum :)

So we agree that GT looks more photorealistic because they concentrated on less details instead of using resources for fancier surroundings - fine by me. :)

We'll talk again once we see screenshots of GT5 of non-racetracks.

Yes I'm glad we do agree that these tracks may look slightly more photo realistic and completely dull, boring and less detailed to boot. It's very clever the way in which you manged to try and spin the conversation rather than admit that one of your prior comments was perhaps wrong (or at the very least lacked insight)...It was akin to the sacred arts of a two-a-penny street corner magician of old ;)

Oh, no, not "slightly", a lot. Cars, lighting, everything. Backgrounds look better, too. Dull to you, a realistic rendering of a racetrack to me. Really in a league of its own.

You seem to come back with rather dim-witted replies like "yer but U F5 teh fred so you must be da lol innit". This surprises me as I know there are others on this site who seem to value your views or at the very least egnolige you as a decent chap?

Look, PGR is a pretty racer. GT is simply car porn (pardon the expression), and Polyphony deliver on exact realism in that regard, above and beyond all other developers, which is really all that matters to those who want it.

What a fool you are - you come to this thread to blurt out several times how "meh" and "dull", and "boring" GT looks compared to PGR (as one of the most rabid 360 trolls no less), and when I wind you up a little, you get all excited and try to insult me. And boy, you can't argue if your life depends on it. Really, really poor show.

Hands down, this is the best looking driving game I have seen. GT team is fast approaching photorealism, espectially those Gran Turismo TV shots. The interface is also slick beyond words. All it now needs is AI.

That said, check out Sega Rally Revo. That is possibly the best looking rally game to date.

That would probably be because they are, you know, TV shots. :)

Of real racing events. The game will have a TV channel where you can watch racing events...
