Much-delayed racer nearing launch.

Sony has announced that Polyphony Digital's oft-delayed racing game Gran Turismo 5 will be released on 2nd November for PS3 in North America.

The game was shown off at Sony's E3 conference and is set to include 3D support, along with many other PS3 titles.

Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi has repeatedly said the ambitious racer is on the verge of completion, and Sony has repeatedly said the delays are down to the team's perfectionism.

It highest-profile slip recently came after Sony announced a March 2010 launch date at last year's Tokyo Game Show, before having to delay it again at the start of the year.

GT5 hasn't been shy though - it's been seen in public many times since its unveiling as Vision Gran Turismo at PS3's coming out party in 2005 - and is playable again at E3 this week, where Yamauchi is also giving interviews.

The e3 video was amazing showing improved damage and crashes (one car looking like it was going under another and an evo X about to roll). Plus the top gear track looked stunning. Cant wait till november 2.

They are actually lying - it will get to october and then a press release will say march 2011, February 2011 will come, they will say it is almost complete, and then at e3 2011 the release will be announced as november 2011, before the whole cycle starts again.

November sounds good. They daren't put out another date if they thought a delay was possible so i reckon it's safe to say this one's to stay. Looks good. Roll on Nov!

This is the only time they have actually announced a worldwide release date. They know they'll end up with egg on their face if they delay it again which is why they've been confident enough to announce a release date. It's been long enough, and let's face it, they had to release it eventually whether PD thought it was complete or not.

@chessboxer, yes you are correct. Everyone else in the media always goes on about it always being delayed, when in actuality is has only been delayed exactly 1 whopping time. That video was incredible, the headlights coming up was awesome, the day to night change just wowed me. Can't wait to get my hands on it, going to pre order the Collectors Edition.

You guys realise that the trailer was just that. A trailer. Doesn't mean that it's A) going to look like that B) have those features. It could have been a target render for all we know. Until they show actual gameplay footage of the game running properly we'll never know.

I'd put money on the release date slipping too.

I wont even be as sarcastic as everyone else about the release date lol. Im just put off completely about this tittle all together so they can release it next millenium with not just 3D but also with smell simulation of rubber from tires and mad from the race and tires, with body attachments that make you feel virtual feedback of the vibrations of the car and also a holochick that hold on the finish flag and strips for me if I win the race. ( well that last one should be sold seperately cause it would sell big )

I don't think Sony wil dare to delay this again - they will kill Yamauchi and ship a buggy sorry-but-a-patch-is-coming-soon product before delaying again.
