Another fantasy beat-em ip with a scantily clad hero.

No one makes one for a decade, then loads come along at once.
  • xAx #3 4 years ago

    its hardly practical fighting attire
  • M_Spitz #4 4 years ago

Can you still kick gnomes up the bum for power-ups?

I bet the man wears even less.
  • dadrester #6 4 years ago

looks shit if you ask me... i'd rather have a streets of rage remake... hang on... didn't they do one recently or was it final fight? ah who cares... ninja gaiden still wins!
  • L42yB #7 4 years ago

    Looks a bit rubbish...

Is it going to be a budget game?
  • Riggers #8 4 years ago

    " Bertie

I bet the man wears even less."

I hope they give him authentic package jiggle too...fair's fair!

I used to play GoldenAxe in my local chip shop when I was a lad. Must be 18 years ago now...bloody hell.
  • BiscuitBase #10 4 years ago

    Must..... leverage..... old ip.......
  • Ranger101 #11 4 years ago

In the original (and the Mastersystem Version) The man only had a pari of blue y-fronts on, and a pair of boots.

That's what real men were like back then. Fuck your pansy armour and protection and helmets. Roger a small dwarf for some potions to unleash your 'dragon'.

    80's were awesome.
  • Triggerhappytel #12 4 years ago

@dadrester - you mean Final Fight Streetwise, which was shit, apparently.

Anyway, I have fairly high hopes for this, but secretly we all know it will probably be cack. So long as Sonic Team are in no way involved (I can't be arsed to look it up) then there's the faint glimmer of hope it might be okay.

I loved MD Golden Axe back in the day and still have a go once in a while on the emulator.
This does not need to try too hard and will likely end up a bit of a 'guilty pleasure'
  • MightyMouse #14 4 years ago

It's no Severance: Blade of Darkness though, is it? Now there was a game, still up there with the best.
  • Rodney #15 4 years ago

streets of Rage remake would be nice. I guess it would be all gangsta now innit.

Is it just my rubbish memory but wasnt there little lepricorns running around with pots of gold on their back, if you caught one you got a power up. Am I misremembering this?

midget power ups in the remake please!
  • Spanky #16 4 years ago

I think it looks kinda cute although that rhino type mounts face gives me the heebie jeebies.

    Make it like Conan!
  • Physically_Insane #17 4 years ago

Rodney: No, you are quite correct; I seem to recall that the midget-pummelling got pretty fiercely competitive in two-player, as you both jostled to land blows on the wee man to get him to drop chicken legs to heal your battle wounds. Certainly, it's a feature of whose return I would demand before considering a purchase.

Still, good to see the beast-riding remains front and centre. That was another fun quirk of two-player; once a beast turned up, all attention would turn towards frantic one-upmanship over who actually got to ride the monster, and away from actually progressing through the level. It always ended in tears though, as the monster would end up getting frightened and running away, leaving an ill-tempered silence and bitter recriminations in his wake. Those were certainly the days. :D

how is this even close to golden axe? you would hardly say "wow! a next gen golden axe" if someone showed you these screenies without telling you what game it was.
My money is on this being crap.
  • Arcadiian #25 4 years ago

    @tesco.

I think it looks more or less exactly like a next-gen Golden Axe should.
  • bdc #26 4 years ago

    That looks really good!
  • kcorb #27 4 years ago

    This is awesome.
Being developed by Secret Level who haven't made anything I've played and already been slammed for Final Fight: Streetwise.
As long as there are screaming villagers and mocking giants it'll be great.
  • MuppetThumper #28 4 years ago

I'll be getting this. Got great memories of playing it from yonder years - including 2 player on the same keyboard on the Spectrum. It was one of those nutter jobs of loading each level from the tape deck separately, so if you died you had to load the whole damn thing again.

Also played the arcade game about 8-10 years ago in SegaWorld. That was FANTASTIC, all around where gypos forking out a quid or more for 3 mins of gameplay on crappy shooters or driving games, and me and a mate spent about £1.40 for 50 minutes of brilliant fun completing Golden Axe.

MightyMouse - cheers for the Severance reminiscence too. That was a quality game, its difficulty as brutal as its decapitations.

She doesn't look as sexy in 3D.
  • Kami #30 4 years ago

No no no no no no NO NO MOTHER FUCKING NO!

I'd love to see a new Golden Axe but not like this. Beast Rider? Ugh... there goes another childhood memory.
  • convercide #31 4 years ago

    Golden Axe: Bestail Fun.
  • Saii #32 4 years ago

I have such fond memories of Golden Axe. It's one of the games that makes me miss 2-player co-op play.
I hope the fighting system is up to par with the current standard.
