God of War III to have multiplayer?

Speculative job ad prompts speculation.

The Internet has decided that God of War III will have multiplayer bits in it after uncovering a Sony America job ad seeking an "online gameplay programmer to join the team behind the critically acclaimed AAA titles God of War and God of War II".

Responsibilities for anyone who gets the job at Sony's Santa Monica studio will include designing, developing and maintaining network game and tools code and implementing network functionality, according to the ad, which was uncovered by Kotaku.

When we spoke to Sony UK about this, a spokesperson said he couldn't comment.

However, scrolling down to the bottom of the job ad (accessible by going to the SCEA jobs page and searching for "online"), there's a message in bold type that says, "This job description may exist simply to gather interest, and may or may not ever become an approved open position."

Stand down, Internet.

God of War multiplayer? You mean kinda like you were able to play Gauntlet at the arcade with your mates? That would be awesome!

    I just want MORE.
Easily the most impressive game I've played in a long time (next gen and all) before GTA4 arrived this week.

Zuljin is spot on, I think 4player coop would be awesome, especially with characters tailored to a specific skill, like ranged, melee, magic, and tank etc. I am also totally in love with the idea of usercreated characters, based on maybe four classes, but of course with lots of visual treats, all done in the completely over the top GoW style - imagine what they could do with a character creation tool similar to City Of Heroes, it would ROCK :)

On that note - Am I the only one who finds Kratos as a character really annoying? I mean, the mechanics of the swords is brilliant, and the motivation and story behind his being is ++good, but he STILLl grates with his pumped teen emo rage and what is for all purposes and intents (let's face it) a complete Seattle Grunge look.

This'll be the game that makes me finally get a PS3.

Please no, I'm sick to death of tacked-on multiplayer. Just finished Unchartered last night and I have no doubt some of the quality of the single player was down to the fact that the developers had the sense to focus on a single player game.

Bugger off with this constant bloody multiplayer. Make the game, release it. Don't bugger around trying to balance some half-arsed bloody multiplayer mode for months on end.

I think the PSP game was supposed to have multiplayer but it was cut off by lack of space on disk and time,so this seems a logical step foward. But i could be wrong.

Hmmmm... Didn't Kratos have a brother?

@ STA - yep, and the way they set his introduction up in the unlockable movie in GoW1, he's more likely to be Kratos' enemy than ally. I think they're keeping that plotline in reserve; probably for a later entry in the series (maybe GoW4 or a PSP2 title).

Anyway, I would love co-op (create-a-character would be awesome), and everything disc mentioned.
