You have to wait
• Razorus #3 2 years ago

lol @Rusta
and lol @ the caption "houmus see these". Although houmus is not Greek originally.
• Wyrm #4 2 years ago

Some of these do actually look like paintings!
• Pastici #5 2 years ago

They look really shiny :/.
• bnazir #6 2 years ago

Gotta love kratos, he just does not give a shit about anything.
• Bertie Verified Senior Staff Writer, Eurogamer.net #7 2 years ago

I'm a big fan, but, I don't know - looking at these I can't see what the silly amounts of fuss are for. It looks nice, but like a high-res version of the other games. The art style's actually quite boring.

Although houmus is not Greek originally. Oops! It's nice though.

@Bertie [staff]

To be fair, I think that speaks volumes for the quality of the games on the PS2. They still look great even today :)
• muscleblade #10 2 years ago

Looks good imo. Still doesnt look as interesting as Bayonetta or as dark and gritty as Dantes Inferno. It will be a great game no doubt, but the greatest? I doubt that.
• Zebula77 #11 2 years ago

Ahhh, forget Bayonetta or Dante or Darksiders - this is the one I'm waiting for. Gotta love Kratos. :)
• patch #12 2 years ago

Loved the demo, can't wait for it to come out. Any cheap pre-orders anywhere?
• patch #13 2 years ago

@Bertie - have you played the upgraded GoW 1 & 2 yet (not that I have)? Will be interesting to see how they compare with GoW 3. Maybe a job for Digital Foundry :)
• metalmike25 #14 2 years ago

I played the Dante demo and it just seemed like a brown version of god of war but a really bland central character. I love the idea of basing a game on dantes inferno but my god it was dull. Maybe the eight circle of hell is boredom
• gjgjg #15 2 years ago

when are they gonig to introduce varying facial displays? it was the same for Nico in GTA4, i thought cratos might smile once in a while :)
• betrayerofhope #16 2 years ago

this game will be epic!!
• crazyhorse174 #17 2 years ago

Looks nice, but does Kratos only have one facial expression? Looks like the one I use as I'm pushing out an almighty fart!
• Psiloc #18 2 years ago

@Bertie

I don't hear much fuss about the art style, it's usually all about Kratos or the gameplay as far as I can tell.
• JediMasterMalik #19 2 years ago

The art style is great, Bertie gone crazeh!
• pervertron #20 2 years ago

Kratos never smiles because he's a big hard man.... grrr....

..... I've gone all quivery inside.
• andromeda #21 2 years ago

Off topic but,

Underwhelming GT5 trailer incoming....saddle up for the ride!
• Drpwnage #22 2 years ago

You probably won't notice the Art style with the floods of blood everywhere.
• Santino #23 2 years ago

after completing the gow collection and then playing the demo i'm more concerned about the framerate than how it looks in stills.
• crazyhorse174 #24 2 years ago

Kratos never smiles because he's a big hard man.... grrr....

Hard men smile all the time though! Look at Chuck Norris - he's always grinning! :P

Although I have heard that behind Chuck Norris smile is a fist, ready to attack!

...or was that his beard?!
• KayJay #25 2 years ago

But he's the God Of War... What the fuck has he got to smile about.
• crazyhorse174 #26 2 years ago

Actually Kratos looks chalky which is a hard effect to nail down without a huge amount of detail, these are beautiful
• DrDamn #30 2 years ago

@Santino
That was my first though on playing the GoW collection. The 60fps update feels great in those - particularly compared to the GoWIII demo. As Farticus mentioned the GoWIII demo was a very old build, they should have had about a year to improve things since then. I hope they have gone for less flash and 60fps rather than a flashy 30fps - though solid 30 is better than the demo performance.

Still the King. No amount of viral marketing can make this game fail. They can write as many Dante's Inferno, Bayonetta, Darksiders GOW killer articles as they like on N4G but GOW truely is the complete package in the sense of scale, graphics, performance, gameplay, puzzle play and story. I cant wait. I still cant believe two of my GOTY contenders for this year are already out in the first 3 months of the year. This and Mass Effect 2.

• drumbaby #34 2 years ago

New shots looks nicer than the demo, and that looked (and played ) brilliant. Looking forward to this!
• Bertie Verified Senior Staff Writer, Eurogamer.net #35 2 years ago

I'm not saying this looks shit, far from it - GOW3 is everything I'm hoping for.

It's just that after Jaffe told us this was like a painting in motion I was expecting something more arty and with more charm. It's too sterile, too plastic to be classed as that. There's none of style that games like Uncharted 2 or Assassin's Creed II have - an edge. This looks like high-quality character models romping around a highly detailed world.

Having said that, this shot is pretty special.
• betrayerofhope #36 2 years ago

@AC!D

The two best action games in my opinion last gen was DMC 3 and GOW2. Although i didn't enjoy DMC4 that much i hope Gow3 will wash off that mediocre experience.

i can't wait to destroy zeus and the rest of olympus on the back of titans. this game will be glorious. my only wish is that the framerate should be closer to 60 like last gen
• freakzilla #37 2 years ago

If these are real I think we should acknowledge that maybe the devs could've put a bit more effort into the PS3 ports of 360 games.

but the criticisms aren't completely baseless

Am I missing something here? Not about the game but about the graphics.

Yes they are very good, but a lot of people seem to think they are a giant leap from what we've seen already. I mean Uncharted 2 looks better for a start..
• Gazza_UK #39 2 years ago

The mistake was listening to Jaffe.
• Widge #40 2 years ago

Aiming to run at 60fps isn't it?
With Uncharted 2 running at 30 it can afford to throw more glitz at the screen. However, compare this to the 60fps of Dantes Inferno and its in a completely different class.
• Spectre158 #41 2 years ago

Hard to compare it to Uncharted 2 when we haven't seen this latest build in motion. Those who have seen it have said it looks better than anything else on PS3.
• des #42 2 years ago

Looks like Uncharted 2 with more subtle DOF effect.
• BartonFink #43 2 years ago

Dunno what Bertie is on - that looks fantastic. Looking forward to this it's been consistently the best button masher in the genre.
• darc #44 2 years ago

@everybody: *WHAT* demo are you talking about? Did Sony post it and then pull it again? I can't find it anywhere on the PS Store.
• Goodfella #45 2 years ago

The demo was only available (some months back) to certain people who got sent a code via email. I got one. :D
• TRUTH #46 2 years ago

I played GoW I & II with the demo of GoW III - have to say these games are more button mashing the actual skill. Bayonetta took skill and fighting mechanics to a new level (PS3 version suffered in some areas esp slowdown, loading);playing GoW III demo just seemed more of the same of GoW 1 & 2 - I got past fairly easily without really using skill as in Bayonetta or Ninja Gaiden.

The graphics are nice and clean. but honestly it seems nothing above anything already out there!...I hope more tactics, skill will be placed in the full version rather then flashy over the top moves .

Kratos is lookin' PUMPED!
• Slipstream #49 2 years ago

Having played the demo many times I can safely say that this is the GoW we know and love. Based on that factor it wont dissapoint, it still has the incredible QTE sections, which have been handled with the best system I've seen to date. Appearing at the appropiate area of the screen (based on the Square, Triangle, Circle and Cross layout) they aren't intrusive, so you can effectivley press and watch the slaughter at the same time, and believe me, the slaughter is beautiful.

With that said, the demo didn't really offer anything new that stood out. so with that I don't think it will be a defining experience, and the small skill that is required to play GoW (especially when compared to DMC, Ninja Gaiden and Bayonetta) is still evident in the demo, but that's what it is, a demo, and maybe the fact that it's not an overly complicated action game is what has earned it it's well deserved throne.

No doubt, this will be huge.

Let's be fair when comparing some games here dudes. AC2 looks like **** on anything but a high end PC. And beyond that these systems so far have shown they cannot do open world populated games without severe consequences. I would love to see what the PS3 can do in a year with these kinds of games but Infamous and the like looked like crap.
• Machetazo #51 2 years ago

I can wait. Like I did with the second chapter - bloody fantastic game, but still. No hurry for this. Plenty of other games to check out.

• Chalee #52 2 years ago

Bayonetta and Kratos should have a baby, and some one should make a game about him / her. I'm guessing he wouldn't grow up to be an accountant :)
• Razorus #53 2 years ago

I just ordered the ultimate Trilogy edition from Game. £110, but it needed to be done as my PS3 won't play PS2 games and I never owned the original ones anyway!
• Widge #54 2 years ago

or buy the collection from somewhere like Axelmusic and GOW3 when it comes out and you save loads.
• TRUTH #55 2 years ago

The problem with GoW is there is no real skill evolved - Krato's is way to powerful and just need button mashing to get through most of the game!

Even the demo for GoW III it hust more of the same button mashing, improved graphics yes! But! again nothing that takes it to whole new WOW! level.
• Widge #56 2 years ago

You can't button mash GOW to get through the game, mixed up bunches of bad guys easily take you down.

I remember one bit where it first gives you the sword then a bunch of easy lowlifes to have fun with... gradually it started dropping in more nails people and you really had to start paying attention.
• dfish #57 2 years ago

the game does indeed run at 60hz but the e3 demo maxed out at 58fps with the average being much lower. The game is loaded with too much bling, It all depends how much they optimise between then and final release.
