God of War III confirmed

As GoW2 director does one.

Sony has revealed that its Santa Monica studio is currently working on God of War III for the PlayStation 3.

The company also confirmed that God of War director Cory Barlog is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.

The God of War franchise has become a fan-favourite since its release on the PlayStation 2 in 2005.

"We can confirm that Cory Barlog, game director for God of War II, is leaving the SCEA SM Studios and we are grateful for his work and creative vision for the critically acclaimed God of War franchise," said a spokesperson for Sony, speaking to consumer site 1UP.

"Moving forward, we are confident in the God of War team, as they are an extremely talented group of people that are passionate about the franchise and dedicated to creating even more epic content with God of War: Chains of Olympus for the PSP and God of War III for PS3."

The next release in the action-adventure franchise will be the PSP game, due for release in March 2008.

Hmmm... No more Cory, I wonder how this will affect the quality of GoW III?

he said "moving forward". he loses.

anyway, what is it with GoW losing management staff each game?

with the 2 main driving forces behind the series now gone, i'm slightly worried for the future.

Hopefully someone else who has a passion for great action and interesting story will take up the reins.

I suggest Hideo Kojima, afterall he will supposedly be finished with the metal gear series early next year, and has clearly shown expertise in both required areas.

This game - if it lives up to the last two - would actually sell me a PS3. I hope Cory Barlog's (why do I keep wanting to type "Balrog"!?) departure doesn't mean a loss of focus on what made the franchise so great in the first place.

    @STA

The same as what happened between GOW I and GOWII?

No one knew Cory till GOWII so I guess whoever steps up from the shadows, will do a good job... I hope.

    @Killerbee

because you keep thinking of the streetfighter character.

I remember playing the first on PS2 about a year ago and I was impressed at what they pulled out of the PS2, especially the no loading times. I reckon people are going to have high expectations for this one...

Is Cory the guy that did the pissed up interview?

Endless existentialist dialogues between Kratos and Gaia about "the battlefield" the meaning of being a soldier?

Fembots screaming "rage" in Ancient Greece?

Sexual tension between vampires and acrobatic cyborg ninjas in Ancient Greece? (Actually, come to think of that, this one would make some sense.)

Anyway, I'm sure you'll agree... Hideo should be doing his own stuff, let someone else take care of Kratos.

no, that was David Jaffe, who quit after the first one.

I certainly expect the poly count to near get the GPU's limit, and if they do the same kind of technical trickery they did before with the PS2 games, it will look phenomenal.
  • ZuluHero #12 4 years ago

great - now we have to get a ps3 to findout how the story carries on...

Great news... I hope they remember to enable v-sync for the PS3 version though... ;)

Cory Barlog always said he doesn't enjoy making them. (Maybe because he's sqirmish) I just hope the series doesn't become stale, though the potential for the added scope using the PS3 power is a very exciting prospect.

i absolutely agree that kojima should be doing his own stuff, hopefull someone who worked on both previous games will step out of the shadows and lead this one.

Like this needed to be confirmed. Just get it made already!
  • kangarootoo #17 4 years ago

I always expected this, as most of us did really. I agree that this is a game that should really be able to show what the PS3 is capable of, visually speaking.
  • mkreku #18 4 years ago

I know! Turn it into a free-roaming RPG with God of War combat and let me loose in ancient Greece on my own!!

    ..what?
  • Triggerhappytel #19 4 years ago

Sigh. I just hope they drop the price before then, because this could almost sell me a PS3 on its own.

    Late 2009 release? At earliest.

God of war series are my favorite of all time (along with metal gear)... i have high hopes for the 3rd installment.... beign on the Ps3, i have no doubt that the game will be spectacular. Now all i wanted as well was Shadow of the Colossus 2 on the Ps3... that game was a masterpiece.

I loved Chris Morris too. I've got every DVD, tons of bootleg MP3s, and all that. Maybe it's time to do something new though? Or at least copy someone else. The Day Today was *thirteen* years ago, guys...
