God of War 2 demo plans

But not for Europe.

God of War 2 director Cory Barlog says the game's nearly finished and what's more there will be a demo version soon.

Speaking on his blog as part of some elaborate gibberish involving a dog called "Almost Final", Barlog noted that the team in Santa Monica would be "breaking off the demo code pretty soon".

Although he's not specific about when the demo will be released, or even how it will be distributed, the chances are it'll pitch up at retail or on coverdisks around the time of the game's launch.

God of War 2 is currently listed as "April" on Sony's UK release schedule.

It will of course be one of the PS2's last big exclusives, as Sony turns its attention to PlayStation 3, but that shouldn't stop you getting excited - certainly not if the PS2 original was anything to go by. And believe us, it was certainly something to go by.

For more on God of War 2's progress, and my first sighting of the word "hecka", check Cory's blog.

Edit: Looks like we won't be getting the demo after all, as Barlog notes: "For the people who are hoping for a PAL demo, I am really, really sorry but with the time frame we have in front of us there just is not enough time to get both a PAL and NTSC demo done. I would love to do that, but I really want to ship this game on time."

Oh wow.. Looking forward to this one. Can't believe that the Playstation 2 seems to have better games coming out for it than the rest of the consoles put together. Might just be me though. Still. great games ahead! Now bring on Rogue Galaxy too so I can get my RPG fix of the year :)

I've high hopes for this one.
  • Rambaldi #4 5 years ago

To be fair I only played the original for a couple of hours, but I failed to see what the fuss was about. Button mashing and grainy graphics didn't butter my muffin :(
  • Dizzy #5 5 years ago

This one could have saved the PS3... anyway, nice last stand for the PS2.
  • Pac #6 5 years ago

    @Rambaldi

Perhaps you should have played it a bit longer. Not usually a fan of hack em ups (didn't like Devil May Cry for instance) but found this rewarding, challenging and entertaining. One of the best games in recent PS2 history.

    April!!! WTF?
the yanks get them a month early typical.

I seen the collossus fight on IGN and WOW.

It's games like this on the PS2 that is really making me considering to delay my PS3 purchase until there's a PS2 drought of games for a while.
  • Steroyd #8 5 years ago

awe just read the blog and PAL doesn't get a demo. :'(

Pretty much negates this being Euro news...

I thought the same when I first picked it up... its not until you get to Athens, especially the road to Athens, that it starts to get really good.

i still have to play 1, got it, 24 and the warriors cheap a while back only for my PS2 to pack up

going to be a bit silly if I get a PS3 and end up playing my back catalog of PS2 games on it most of the time
  • JediMasterMalik #11 5 years ago

Can't wait, loved the first. With the additions in this one, It will definitely be worth picking up.
  • Oceadge #12 5 years ago

    Yet another GoW game.
  • JediMasterMalik #13 5 years ago

    ^It's only the second...
  • mkreku #14 5 years ago

    Okami, Rogue Galaxy..
  • Dizzy #15 5 years ago

"Releasing two sword-slashers in the same time period for the same platform would not make much sense. "

Errr??? Comparing GoW and Heavenly Sword? It would have made sense to have a guaranteed AAA game to come to PS3 instead.

Cory BALROG!!!!!11 OMGZ, RUN! Oh. Barlog.

"Balrog noted that the team in SANTA!!!11" Santa CLAUS?!?!?!? Oh. Santa Monica.

    Err... yes, fantastic 1st game.

Then start GoW3 for PS3, and get Jaffe to do more pissed up interviews, I like those.

God Of War, Gears Of War, God Of War 2. All GoW's!
(For ages I saw people talking here about GoW and I was thinking 'why are they still talking about that?' not realising it was the 360 game they were talking about.
  • JediMasterMalik #18 5 years ago

    Gears of War = Gears
    God of War = GoW

    Easy! ;)
  • kangarootoo #19 5 years ago

    @Rambaldi

I also played this for an hour or so, was unmoved on the whole (the hydra was much impressive though), and haven't played it since.

But I DO see what all the fuss was about. I realise that this just isn't my type of game, but for those who do appreciate the genre its one fo the best examples out there. And that be the difference.

To expand on that "hecka" quote,

"woot the game looks hecka good".

WTF is that supposed to mean?! Even expanded into proper english it reads,

"Want one of those the game looks very good" and that STILL isn't even a proper sentence! It reads like the results of a Vulcan mind probe on some gelatinous blob found in a silicon mine in an episode of Star Trek (you know the one I mean).

A blog on the internet is no excuse Barlog. At least have a go at grammar. Go on, just for fun, you might even like it. Boris Johnson should be aiming his column (stop giggling) at Barlog's blog before he starts on the industry in general.
  • JediMasterMalik #20 5 years ago

I'm guessing he's using the colloquial woot, as in woo hoo, rather than the woot, as in want one of those. Maybe. ;)

In fact that's how I've always used it. :o
  • kangarootoo #21 5 years ago

Well I guess that is OK on the woot front, but even if hecka is supposed to be short version of heck-of-a, it still makes no sense at all.

No, its too late, I can't be convinced otherwise and I'm forming an angry mob.

    ......... time passes.

Ah, apparently its a legitimate slang word meaning "hell of a lot". Son I concede its not just some withcraft from the mind of the author.

    "http://www.rapdict.org/H ecka"

But STILL Balrog makes no sense.

"Wahay the game looks hell of a lot good"

That is just caveman speak, so I still win and Balfor loses. I am best. Now I shall do my little victory dance while he stands in the corner.

"Can't believe that the Playstation 2 seems to have better games coming out for it than the rest of the consoles put together"

WTF? LOL! On Xbox 360 this year I'll be playing Halo 3, PES7, Forza 2, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, Stranglehold, Lost Odyssey (with any luck), Alan Wake, Grand Theft Auto IV, Project Gotham Racing 4, Assassin's Creed, Too Human (I reckon it'll turn out dapper), Banjo Kazooie 3, Eternal Sonata, and so on.

Lol at the claims PS2 will have better games in 2007. Just lol!

    :DDDDD
  • kangarootoo #23 5 years ago

    @rotj

    Aeeeiii, my eyeees.

Do you have a key on your keyboard with lol written on it?
  • JediMasterMalik #24 5 years ago

    Wow it finally happened!

    He finally started with "WTF?LOL"

Was wondering how long it would take.
  • corybarlog #25 5 years ago

Hello all of my european friends...well gauging from the comments I may be overstating it a bit :) Just kidding.

So the term hecka I think is a more sanitary version of the term "Hella". This is a term used mostly in northern california to modify the normal state of things. So something is not good...it's "hella" good...or translated it is "really" good. Some things are sweet, and some things are "hella" sweet. I myself do not use the term "hella", or even it's more age acceptable term "hecka"...but I am in full support of those who do. So the comment on the blog that refers to "hecka" and the somewhat common internet normanclature "woot" is ok with me.

And to bring it full circle...it is "hella" ok with me.

I was also woefully inaccurate when I, in a somewhat tired state, said that there would be no PAL demo. Mouth moving far too fast for the brain sometimes...frequently I suck like that, but rest assured all will be receiving a "hecka" 'tight' demo. (sorry, I couldn't resist on that one, callbacks are just so much fun)

Even though it was not me who said the afformentioned slang, I will confess that I do have terrible grammer so good call on that one. As this post so clearly illustrates :)

Keep an eye out though...cause the demo should be coming out in mid FEB for everyone across the globe! Thanks for playing the game, if you keep playing we will all still have jobs...so seriously...please...keep playing.

    cory

    'tight' = slang for swell
