GOD adds Double Agent, GRAW

Still rather expensive, mind.

Ubisoft has donated Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter to the Xbox Live Games on Demand service.

Both games cost £19.99 and can be bought from their separate Xbox.com pages (SCDA, GRAW)

Most online retailers sell Double Agent for around £16, although Amazon.co.uk drops the price to £13.50. GAME has the biggest discount at £9.99, but unhelpfully doesn't stock the game at the moment.

The convenience of downloading should make up for that saving of a few pounds (or at least you assume that's the argument), and consider Splinter Cell Double Agent you should, because it's excellent. Head over to our 9/10 review to find out why.

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter didn't score as highly, but headlined an early flock of next-gen titles with gusto..

We'd suggest shopping around for GRAW, however, as Amazon.co.uk has the game for under a tenner. ShopTo and GAME aren't far off at £13.00 and £10.99, either.

I love the fact that even EG has to say shop around. Such a wasted opportunity.

Has anyone seriously downloaded a single game from this yet for these prices?
  • Emmit_Assassin #3 2 years ago

Yet another attempt by Microsoft to squeeze as much money as possible out of us. First they tried to get £90 odd out of us for a 120gb HDD when I can get a 1tb for under that, then there was the useless and over priced Avatar Marketplace, now this.
  • KDR_11k #4 2 years ago

Seems they've added MSP prices to the games now, previously they had thwe prices written out, now they say 2400 points (though that's still way too much, it's more than one of those 2100 cards so it's extremely impractical and while you're in a store you can just pick the retail game up anyway).

Aye, think they're missing the point of digital distribution to be honest. Suppose to cut out the 'middle men', bring price down and increase profits and savings for everyone, yet... £20 for £10 games.
  • Tyronne #6 2 years ago

It has to be said that this is THE thing which peeves me about digital downloads, considering there is little in the way of a distribution chain,no bricks and mortar store,no shop wages to pay and the fact that you are neither getting a box or a physical copy of the game.

THEY SHOULD BE CHEAPER THAN THIS.

Charging almost double for a game you can get the physical version for is just beyond me and it worries me that when the day comes that digital is the only way to get games, we are all going to be fleeced with very high prices with little chance of shopping around for a better deal.

Games purchased in this fashion should be cheaper than going to the shops and buying it, not more expensive for no adequately explained reason which to me is beyond logic.

I'm still baffled by what the appeal of this service is meant to be. It seems that most new games drop below £20 within a few months, and there are good games that are less than a year old which drop to under a tenner (Saints Row 2, EndWar, Dead Space, LittleBigPlanet) I can't imagine how anyone could see a 3 year old game like GRAW or Splinter Cell DA on sale for £20 and think, 'Ooh, I'll have that' when they've been £5 bargain bin staples since 2007.

I'm past feigning outrage at this sort of thing, it's just that it's... odd.
  • LiveForever #8 2 years ago

Is anyone actually surprised by the prices? Marketplace has been a major rip-off for a while now.
  • aphexstwin #9 2 years ago

    @squarejawhero

its not like theyre scared of flouting the law, look at the latest explorer fine by the eu. they should be cheaper than this. and besides, only ms can call something GOD. next thing you know theyll be bigger than the beatles.
  • muscleblade #10 2 years ago

I wouldnt consider any of the GOD games for half the current prices. Taking up HDD space is also a drawback. At the current pricepoint this must flop. I cant see it any other way.
  • TheTingler #11 2 years ago

I don't see what's so convenient about it. By the time it's finishing downloading I could've walked to my nearest Gamestation or Game and back and got it for half the price. And it won't take up 60% of my hard drive space either.
  • stepneg #12 2 years ago

Is anyone really that stupid to spend £20 on any of these games, I guess MS must think so or they wouldn't keep releasing them.
  • pinochet_cz #13 2 years ago

Wow..they are crazy. But people can be crazy too. And get a hundred people, you will find one real idiot for sure. So, why they should make a 10$ food for everyone when they can do 100$ for crazy ones?
  • IneptPercy #14 2 years ago

Even the arguement of doing it without leaving the house falls flat with online retailers genrally being cheaper than the shops.

With a high speed internet and a lot of impatience I can see the attraction, but personally I have slow internet and don't mind waiting for a disc in the post.
  • Vin #15 2 years ago

Don't bother with the 360 version of DA. Buy the original xbox version - which can be bought for peanuts.

It's the proper sequel to Chaos Theory, to boot.
  • uzivatel #16 2 years ago

GRAW is awesome, imo the first "next gen" game this generation.

Get the physical copy, if you think the GoD price is too high - its that simple. Its not like Microsoft is going to cut the price because people are crying on forums.

The Double Agent listed on amazon isnt from amazon itself, its from a amazon marketplace trader. Id say £20 for DA at least is worth it, as then you at least dont risk a scratched disc.
Its on my list for when I have finished Batman.

    @Zedfragg

Find me a game store that has it in stock. The local one hasnt had a copy for the last 6 months as I have been looking every weekend.
I look after my game discs extreemly well doesnt mean that someone selling their copy does too. The best option would be for Ubisoft to release a new retail package and that is unfortunatly a pipe dream.
  • TheEraser #19 2 years ago

you gave SCDA 9/10 and only gave MGS4 8/10 that dosent mke sense
  • Bazfrag #20 2 years ago

    9/10??

That makes CT a15/10 game imo
  • davisorle #21 2 years ago

Would be usefull if you wold give us also prices for Europeans since its not just British ppl that read the website to give us an opinion. for example Id tell you if the 9.99Euros its for on Steam is a steal compared to that or not but thnx to you I dont even know so.. I can only IMAGINE with a such NON usefull article that both Steam and GOD are same price..? No clue but thnx for making me wonder :p lol ill go check later :)

Attempting to cut out the second hand market by any means is professional suicide. Its one of the main reasons around 40% of gamers HAVE an Xbox 360. I only ever buy around three games a year full price, the rest are all ebay and bargain bin finds. I'm not worried about waiting a few months for most games, and if one day we can only get new games by GOD, then that's when I'll sell my 360.
Argos had it good by doing away with the shop front, and prices dropped. MS do it, and prices go up! Typical.
Sony have been playing catch up with their machine, first they copy the Xbox achievements, then they go all motion controller. Maybe MS should make external HDD's compatible as Sony have, and then maybe I'd think about a digital download at a lower price.
