Go!View gets fancy Christmas content News

PSP News by Robert Purchese

12 December, 2008

On-demand PSP entertainment service Go!View has added some alluring telly content for Christmas.

There's Battlestar Galactica, the original A-Team, plus the latest series of Lost and Heroes. Kate, Kate! [Sawyer, Sawyer! - dep ed.]

Cult oldies Knight Rider, Miami Vice and Red Dwarf also join the listings, as does the brilliant Quantum Leap. Rounding the bunch out in, well, probably a tie and blazer combo, is I'm Alan Partridge.

Go!View, a joint venture between Sony and BSkyB, offers up sports programs and films to watch on the move, as well as telly shows.

The aforementioned retro telly classics are part of the Entertainment subscription pack, while the comedy episodes are part of the Comedy pack, and sports part of the Sports pack.

Each cost GBP 5 a month, or GBP 8 for two, and GBP 10 for all three.

There's also a Movies to Rent and Latest TV to Rent option, which charges GBP 1.50 for a telly program and GBP 2.50 for a film.

I gave it a trial and it works ok, but there wasn't really much content for the subscription to start with, and individual episode rentals are expensive. And why rent a movie for £2.50 to watch on your PSP when you could go rent a DVD for less than that in some places?

This new round of content looks promising, though. I might take another look.

@Mingster - nice QL reference there.

Maybe I am missing a bit of information on this service? Do they stream them to your psp or is it a download. Surely it's cheaper to just by the dvd rip it and then put it on a stick?

Whatever happened to the buy the DVD get the UMD free idea which was touted about a few years ago?

I have a feeling that while this may be a good service for the technical inept, it's all a little bit too little and way way too late.

You said it all really. And let's be honest a lot of PSP users probably leave the 'buying' bit out of the DVD to PSP process. It would be better to have a a download that you can watch on your PS3 and transfer to PSP if you want to.

I wonder if this crap actually works now? I signed up when this first came out for a trial a few months ago and once downloaded to my un-modded PSP slim, none of the files would play! The customer service was utterly shite. Emailed them 3 times in the space of 2 weeks and I didn't get a solution or even a decent reply from them. Broken is the word.

Is this touted feature of PSP dead in the water?! I still use my PSP especially in travellings I do, but the idea of Go!View just seem to me to be missing a trick or two!

I was going to look into this, but pretty much thought I'd rather fork out for the odd cheapie UMD film every now and again.

+1 to the service being on PS3 and PSP mention, that would be a much better idea.

No chance I'd subscribe to this.

Is it accessible via the Playstation store? No

Is there a pay per download option? No

How do I know that this isn't utter shite before paying money for it? I don't

Accessible via Media Manager? No.

How are most PSP owners supposed to even know about this service? They don't.

Good going.
