Those of you standing around waiting for the Guitar Hero III downloadable content announced the other day can now sink your Microsoft Points into half of the promised new releases - or not, in the case of a Christmas freebie - as Major Nelson's blog announces and Live Marketplace confirms the upload of new content.

The Christmas song "We Three Kings" (as rockified and performed by Steve Ouimette) is available for free, along with three songs from Europe - Die Fantastischen Vier's "Ernten Was Wir Säen", Extremoduro's "So Payaso" and Trust's "Antisocial", each of which costs 200 Microsoft Points.

What isn't there so far is the promised Warner/Reprise Track Pack featuring Linkin Park's "No More Sorrow", Mastadon's "Sleeping Giant" and The Used's "Pretty Handsome Awkward", all based on master recordings, and Activision has yet to tell us exactly when that will hit.

Oh yes, and on first impressions "We Three Kings" is pretty wicked, albeit impossibly hard in places. Bit like the game itself.

whilst not amazing I quite like the sound of these packs, so I've not heard 4 out of 6 but they could be good just like all the previous GH tracks i'd never heard.

we three kings is great! Antisocial is pretty good too although I found it fairly tricky first time round.

Gonna get the Mastodon pack later as that should be pretty good, even if you do have to have Linkin Park.

Been waiting to try that one. I know it's not a household name in English speaking countries, but it's a French cult song since the 80ies and one I've been hoping would make it in a GH release since the first game...

They need to get some Muse, Queens of the Stone Age and Queen track packs on the go. Bohemian Rhapsody \o/ - it'd be like Wayne's World, minus the car. And possibly friends.

Oh s**t! lots of playing to be done then, allthough as i speak im nearly done with tier 2. Is it just me or is it harder from the start than 2 ever was?
Not harder as such(i play on medium allways) just it seems to be harder than the early tracks of 2, seems to think youv'e played before and sort of throws you in there. Not that im bitching i can handle medium, just seems to get harder a lot quicker than 2, im repeating myself, ill stop now:)

Muse is okay - lots of ultra-quick tremolo picking which boosts the rock metre no end. The worst bit is the 'No-one's gonna take me alive' first few sections as it builds to the end riff, as there's a couple of killer runs to perform (on hard - expert is even worse)

So let me get this straight the old downloadable packs on GH2 were 500 points for 3 generally p*ss poor songs and as a result everyone complained. So with this in mind GH3 comes along and releases single tracks (a good thing) that are sh*te (a bad thing), for 600 points for all three songs (Also a bad thing) !!!!

Mastodon punch god in the face on a daily basis, just for fun, and I love them for it, but in all honesty I'd perm my ass-length hair into a mighty Rudy-like affro to play along to Jimi just for a single downloadable track.

I stupidly bought GH3 thinking there might be some songs I've heard before. Now there's some DLC but it's just more of the same - when are we going to get some more UK bands?!

Maybe Rock Band would be a better choice for me, or failing that, "Euro Disco Trash Pop" lol
