GH: Greatest Hits demo on Live

For both Silver and Gold, we're told.

Activision is offering a demo of Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits (Smash Hits in the US) to everybody on Xbox Live - including Silver subscribers.

The sampler weighs 498MB and has three songs - "Rock and Roll All Night" by KISS, "Take Me Out" by Franz Ferdinand and "Woman" by Wolfmother - and one venue to play.

Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits complies all of the best songs from Guitar Hero I, II, Rocks the 80s and III. The idea is to spread them across the multiple Guitar Hero: World Tour instruments.

Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits arrives here for PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 on 26th June.

    Been out for a week for Gold members.

    When did this go back to being called Greatest Hits instead of Smash Hits ?
  • Darren #3 3 years ago

    Just out of curiousity, how many of these Guitar Heroes/Rock Band games have there been up to now? I'm guessing it must almost 20 in total, possibly more.
  • kangarootoo #4 3 years ago

    @Darren

    6 Guitar Hero games and 4 RB games (including the PSP version) I think.
  • Rpt81 #5 3 years ago

    12 Guitar Hero games available currently (1, 2, 3, World Tour, On Tour, On Tour: Decades, Aerosmith, Metallica and Rocks The 80s, plus 3 mobile titles), and three on the way (5, Van Halen and Greatest/Smash Hits).

    2 official Rock Band titles out, PSP one due in just over a week, plus something like three or four track packs of DLC on disc, and the Beatles one coming soon as well.

    Which one was the Kiss song in? 80s? There are a lot of songs from Guitar Hero 1 & 2 that I'd love to play with the band. I'll hold out for Rock Band versions though.

    Been out yonks, and it's atrocious anyway.

    Gosh, I hated "Rock and Roll All Night" so much in GH3. The full game apparently doesn't have "Lay Down" by Priestess in it, either, what's up with that?

    I'm not sure people who bought GH1, 2 and 3 will be thrilled at the idea of having to shell out full price to be able to play some of the songs with four people again. Especially when you'll still have to disc swap when you want to play a song from World Tour or the upcoming GH5. Guitar Hero needs some sort of track export functionality like Rock Band has, and it needs it soon.

    I wish they'd just release GH:Kiss. I can't see many people buying this or Van Halen, and if they just made 'Jump' a dl song I'm 90% sure people would buy that instead.

    Really don't see the point of this, other than it being a glorified track pack.

    One of the joys of the original Guitar Hero was playing the Harmonix in-house covers, not the master tracks. Who can forget their "tweaks" to Ziggy Stardust and Killer Queen. Plastic guitar bliss!
  • Toothball #11 3 years ago

    @Ignatius_Cheese:

    Yeah, I actually grew to really like the covers. Took me a while to get used to the original versions after a long play session.

    Ziggy Stardust and Free Bird both sound better (and play better) than the originals, in my opinion. The sheer length of Free Bird is epic in itself.

    Having played the demo and being a fan of previous GH games, for me something didn't feel right about this. Can't put my finger on it exactly, maybe it's something to do with the note charts or having a different dev work on it.

    I was quite dissapointed when I first saw the final track listing for this and there was no Sweet Child in there. I was all ready to part with my cash on day one if'd they'd secured that song. Now having played the demo I'm glad Sweet Child isn't in there, cos I get the feeling they would have made a complete hash of the note chart and ruined one of the most fun songs to play in any GH game.

    @Gnort
    Lay Down by Priestess is in there. One of the great gems from GH3.

    @Rpt81
    4 GH games on the way this year, there's Band Hero as well :(. Oversaturating the market much?

    Shit demo!! Every song is piss easy.

    "Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits complies all of the best songs from Guitar Hero I, II, Rocks the 80s and III. "
    Not really. Cliffs of Dover, Knights of Cydonia, Pride and Joy, Black Magic Woman, The Metal, My Name is Jonas and La Grange say hi. Also, Raining Blood? That obnoxious piece of crap is an instant reason not to buy this game.

    (obviously the only GH i have which has tracks in Smash Hits is GH3)

    Oh, and don't give me that no-Cliffs-of-Dover-because-it's-instrumental crap...not with YYZ in Smash Hits and Satch Boogie in World Tour.
  • daz_john_smith #17 3 years ago

    For £15 I'd pick this up without hesitation just for the GH1 tracks. If some sort of song transfer into GHWT or GH5 was available then I'd be willing to go as high as £25.
  • kangarootoo #18 3 years ago

    @Rpt81

    Christ alive. I didn't even know there WAS any mobile versions of GH. And I totally forgot about Aerosmith. And GH3 for some reason. And wtf is On Tour?

    Wasn't the ACDC RB game a standalone? Or was it just a track pack on disc?
  • kangarootoo #19 3 years ago

    @Gnort

    "Gosh, I hated "Rock and Roll All Night" so much in GH3. The full game apparently doesn't have "Lay Down" by Priestess in it, either, what's up with that? "

    You read my mind. That KISS track was a massive pile, and Lay Down is one of the best tracks in the series.
  • Gnort #20 3 years ago

    @daz_john_smith

    Oh, right you are, Lay Down is in. I must have seen an incomplete track listing earlier on. Still, there are a couple of tracks I'd have liked to see which didn't make it, like Holiday in Cambodia or Stricken.
  • tomwhitaker #21 3 years ago

    Both of those are out there as Rock Band DLC
