Getaway, Eight Days were halfway there
And not canned. Sony living on a prayer?
Sony London producer Nicolas Doucet has revealed that PS3 games The Getaway 3 and Eight Days were in the second-half of development and not binned at all.
We were told last summer that work had stopped so budget could be re-allocated and resources re-manoeuvred, and that both projects were only at pre-production stage.
Doucet suggests otherwise.
"I would not say they were abandoned, just put aside. Much work had been done. The studio just wanted to focus on its strengths, EyeToy and SingStar. Given the potential of EyePet, priorities have been changed, but it is not a 'death' of other projects. Ultimately, this decision has benefited everyone," he told Gamekult (via VG247).
"I think they were in the middle, they reached the second half. They had a plan, everything was ready...
"Most importantly, projects The Getaway and Eight Days are still there, so no, there has not really been any remorse or anything," added Doucet.
EyePet and SingStar Motown are Sony London's most recent creations. When asked what will be next, Doucet smiled and said the studio had another, unrelated game up its sleeve.
Look out for our thoughts on EyePet soon.

The first one was bobbins, but there was something cool about driving around a UK location in a game like that.

I can't really blame Sony - do you make a high budget third person action game, or do you focus on pumping out the relatively cheap, massively popular, and very long-tail SingStar games?

Done right (ie. not how it was before) on PS3 and this could be really, really good.
