Get Left 4 Dead early on Steam News

PC Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

16 October, 2008

Valve has begun taking PC pre-orders for co-operative zombie shooter Left 4 Dead, ahead of the 18th November launch on Steam.

Those taking part will be offered a 10 per cent discount, taking the price down to USD 44.99 (GBP 22.50).

Valve mouth Doug Lombardi also narrowed down the demo date for Shacknews. The sampler should arrive in early November, with a specific date to be set on Halloween: 31st October.

The demo, remember, will most likely be the first two maps of the hospital campaign.

"With just over four weeks until launch, Left 4 Dead is showing every sign of topping The Orange Box on both the PC and Xbox 360, at retail as well as on Steam," added Lombardi in a statement.

Left 4 Dead launches on PC and Xbox 360 in European shops on 21st November.

I cannot wait for this. Am hoping for a 360 demo as well but unlikely I guess.

Zombies+guns+co-op+Valve=Awesome.

Maybe. So many contenders for that title this year. Hurrah for that.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to this game.

I don't have a PC unfortunately so it's 360 all the way for me. Mind you, the quality of the Orange Box on 360 was amazing so I have alot of faith in that version being nearly as good.

Waiting for a review on this because my laptop is a bit secondary to other things for games.

So is it still a Source game? I'm always amazed how well Source will scale to any machine and run like that's the machine it was made for.

I think it does use the Source engine.

Sorry but a pound isn't two dollars at the moment, so it's a bit more than £22.50. Still, looks good, although I'm not sure if I'll have the time.

I dunno. Nothing I've seen so far has convinced me that this wouldn't be better value for money as part of an Orange Box 2 type of deal. It just looks like a reasonably polished HL2 mod to me.

Still costs cheaper than in a retail store in my neck of Eastern European woods. Left 4 Dead is the game I've been waiting for, so I'll pre-purchase it on Monday, when I have the mah-nee.

I like to actually aim correctly in these types of game (especially when hitting teammates penalises you). PC all the way then!

Yes there's a boxed version, and unfortunately tax and the exchange rate mean it's cheaper to buy retail than it is from Steam, even with the 10% pre-order discount :(

£24.99 is the cheapest I've seen so far, from here: http://www.shopto.net/page.php?page=dett...

Only cost me £29-something paying by PayPal.

It's worth the extra money for me because the retail version comes out a day before I'm off to New York for a week, so I can play the steam version 4 days before I go!

bodypopper - I too think it looks a bit like a HL2 mod! Ropey in places (looking at screenshots and movies).

Just hoping its a fun game. Doesnt quite stand up to the mark in terms of graphics and polish though.

Hoping I'm wrong.

I might get this for the PC, but one question which i dont seem to have understood about the game. You dont have to play this online do you? Ive read all about how you can get 4 players etc involved playing the levels, well i dont want to :D so does this mean the computer plays the other characters?

Sorry if this has already been answered somewhere... just being a muppet :)

Yes, you can play single player, and the other players (survivors and zombies) wil be AI controlled.

I can't think why you want to do that if you have a net connection, but you can.
