Gem "was codename" for PS3 wand
Official title yet to be announced.
Sony has dismissed reports claiming the new PS3 motion-sensing controller will be called Gem.
"The term "Gem" was "an early code name for the product," a spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment America told Kotaku."We haven't announced a final name at this point."
Silver-haired Electronic Arts boss John Riccitiello referred to the motion controller as Gem in a recent conference call. Looks like an official title has yet to be announced yet though.
What would you call the new PS3 motion controller, readers? We vote for The Electromagical Torch of Joy.

Why not call X-box 'grey box' and the PS3 'black box' then? Why bother naming anything?!
Marketing maybe?

Anyone think that Sony are missing the point? M$ are trying to learn from Nintendo and push the boundaries of experience, whereas the Sony effort seems like a mee-too. Feels like it's based on trying to re-capture the market they created (before Nintendo) with the PS2 eyetoy, but not recognising that they now have the most expensive, least ubiquitous console and that the market has moved on.

You forget, Sony have already done the 'no-controller controller', with the EyeToy. Yes, Natal is more than EyeToy. My point is simply that Sony believe its better to have a physical controller in your hand than not. Whether they're right or wrong remains to be seen.
As for names... um... 'SevenAxis' ?

No, imposible, nintendo would sue them for being too similar to wii.
