Gears of War 2 Valentine's Day event

Friends with benefits.

Epic plans to reward the Gears of War 2 community for its loyalty with a special Valentine's Day event that increases bonuses for friends who work together in-game.

Originally proposed by forumites, the Valentine's event offers double points for revives and doubles XP in Wingman and Horde modes.

There's no immediate word on how long the conditions will be in place, but it seems safe to bet on the weekend of 13th/14th February.

Sadly though, Epic wasn't able to include some of the forum's more exotic suggestions, which included "If your wingman dies, you die as well" and "When picking up a meatshield, you get +50 points (physical love)."

Never forget.

The atrocious matchmaking drove me away from this one a long time ago, that and the introduction of several updates which ruined Horde, the best part of the game. The host restarts removed all the tension from upper-levels, making it a pointless grind rather than the thrilling endurance run it was.

To be fair to Epic - the core multiplayer aspect of Gears 2 is fantastic and these little special events are a nice touch. I have stuck with the game and played it for a long time now but that is despite the 'net code'. It can be so frustrating to play as it is clearly unfair when you can't kill people that dodge and bounce off the walls just because the game can't handle the difference in connection speeds.

If you play this then go back to the stupidly smooth Halo 3 you can tell they are worlds apart. Just a shame that this was never fixed.

I only picked this up at Christmas, and I'm having great fun in the solo campaign. I might have a go at Horde mode in a couple of weeks then. Or perhaps try a co-op campaign.
Not having auto-aim when you aim down the sight was a bit of a shock, being used to it from Call of Duty.
