Does look impressive admittedly, I wonder if they remembered to add some plot this time?

Looks technically impressive... and I know how much work goes into making graphics like this... but I simply care not for the look/style of this game... :(

I strongly suspect that the 1280x710 images (yes, not 720p) are actually down-sampled from the 2935x1684 images, giving the illusion of aliasing in the UE3 engine and GOW2 which is unlikely given the UE3 engine.

Therefore the images are of a quality that will never appear in the 360 version.

Does plot really matter in this kind of game? "Here's the enemy, go kill them" is about all the exposition I need. If I wanted a dramatic narrative I'd watch a film. But I'd rather be killing bad guys in the face.

This Unreal Engine is mostly about greys and brows.....they should call it "Surreal Engine". But it does look beautiful.

Aaah! Better!

Who cares what the picture looks like? Those who've seen the gameplay footage released so far know full well just how it looks on their 360s.

Just to add some symmetry, looks a bit grey doesn't it?
Anyway, looks great again and looking forward to the experience of playing it. I just think this is nothing the last generation could have done. I hope the next generation can offer the power for some genuinely new play experiences and not stuff we have mostly seen before with shinier graphics.

Fixed. At least one person was able to spot the obvious mistake. I guess you must agree, or you wouldn't think the sentence made no sense. Thats what you get for running a spell checker with a limited vocabulary! lol

Let's hope the dithered shading is much less prevalent as well.

We all deep down know that the Single Player campaign will be a blood soaked, adrenaline fuelled, gorgeous experience, but only the step up to the Multiplayer which is where the franchise has grown to really shine!

Looking good Epic!

This is looking to be follwing in Gear's footsteps as a milestone game. Gears 1 was the first truly 'next-gen' game in both look and feel, is still one of the best looking games available on any platform, and this looks even better.

As long as they keep up the variation and the cool set-pieces of the first game (noise-based berserker fight, emulsion factory, having to move lightsources around to avoid being killed by the kryll, hammer of dawn, etc..) it will be another masterpiece.

I would prefer less grey though. I'm pretty sure Gears 1 wasnt as grey as this seems.

"OMG!!! it looks like GEARS OF WAR!!! "

Funny that, eh? I was expecting epic to whip up some Sunflower-based enemies or perhaps enlist the aid of Bart Simpson on the COG team.

Maybe I can get my yellow fix from the flamethrower.. surely that can't spout grey flames too! ;)

looks nice, like stuff has aged, im no hortic.. er gardener, but that ivy seems to grow fast :) some of the multi player modes though do sound interesting, i might break my own rule never to get another epic game after they turned the genius that was ut2004 into the crap that was ut3.

Does look good - certainly improved the environments. Only thing I'd say is that in the comparison shots the lighting (or more specifically - the shadows) on the characters looks far better in the Gears 1 version, far too washed out in the new shots.

There are some better full res comparison shots on Gamersyde ... link

Certainly a lot more atmospheric in comparison to Gears 1. Gears 1 shots have a cleaner/crisper far distance, Gears 2 has more effects applied in the distance and a better lighting model - I wouldn't expect any big leap in geometry for these comparisons though. The newer shots in the snowy village look nicer than the comparison ones.

It's a war torn world, what colours would you expect to see in a world that's been blown to bits, shot up to buggery and isn't getting a fresh lick of paint any time soon?

The colour style is fitting for the setting of the game.

Can't wait. This is the only game I give a shit about on 360.

However - why does an alien commando-warrior from a distant galaxy have a bloody cowboy hat? Could have done without that.

I'd say it's more 'gothic' - Epic seem to be fans of that sort of style, with everything covered in 12 tonnes of armour and shoulder/crotch pads.

Also, does it have to be that monochromic?

EDIT; It's a war torn world, what colours would you expect to see in a world that's been blown to bits, shot up to buggery and isn't getting a fresh lick of paint any time soon?

Ah, but colour doesn't only come from paint, does it? Especially not in an outdoors setting like the (brown) countryside and (blue-grey) alpine village.
