Gears music on sale
Relive gory days.
A compilation of the music from Gears of War will be going on sale across the US on 31st July.
We're still waiting to hear back from Microsoft about when it's coming to Europe.
On the CD are all 28 tracks you probably didn't notice when chainsawing Locusts in the facial region, composed lovingly by Kevin Riepl - the same chap responsible for scoring Unreal Tournament 2007 and Soul of the Ultimate Nation (SUN). It's even been performed and recorded by a proper orchestra - the NorthWest Sypmphonia, to be precise.
And if that's not enough to convince you, then titles like "I Will Kryll You" and "Fill 'er Up at Chap's" ought to.
Gears of War was released last November on Xbox 360 to wide critical acclaim. Pop over to our review to find out why.

There aren't many soundtracks worth listening to without the original media attached. Simply because they should support the content, not be content on their own.

Are you saying that the ones worth listening to on their own don't support the content they were created for adequately?
If so, then I think you need to actually listen to more soundtracks as that clearly isn't true for the very best ones out there (in both games and films).

No, I'm not saying that. I'm saying that a soundtrack which can stand on it's own without the content attaqched is quiet exceptional. Like the soundtrack from Amelie, the Piano, Cattaga, etc.
Or gamewise some FF games, Silent Hill or more recently the Darkness.
Gears certainly isn't up there.

because it might look like shit, it might smell like shit, and it will taste of shit, but with 'Gears of War' written on it, they'll be queing round the block for it....

Good, that's what I thought you meant. It just didn't really come across that way to me in your original post
