Gears gun replica selling "like hot cakes" News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

11 August, 2008

Epic Games has confirmed that the replica Lancer gun from Gears of War, which was prematurely revealed at the end of last week, is official and has been selling like "hot cakes".

The 36-inch plastic weapon shakes and growls when you slot three C batteries (the chunky cylindrical ones) in its chamber. Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski poses with the replica on Amazon, maybe in an attempt to distract from the USD 139.99 (GBP 70) asking price.

Still, fork that out on a pre-order and a copy of Gears of War 2 is chucked in for free - plus the option to upgrade the game to a Limited Edition for USD 10 (GBP 5).

NECA, the company behind the plastic Lancer, has also made a "Headshot" Locust Drone action figure, which depicts an unfortunate insect-person-baddie taking a sniper bullet to the face. This comes complete with replica metal COG tags and costs USD 19.99 (GBP 10).

Both Lancer and "Headshot" Locust Drone go on sale alongside the Gears of War 2 game on 7th November.

We're waiting to hear back from NECA about European plans for the toys.

Assuming they aren't paying to get laid surely they could get laid and buy the gun?

@Turambar

I take your point. I was meaning if people perhaps got laid they wouldn't feel the need to part with £70 for a toy gun.

If they owned the gun they probably wouldn't get laid anyway so it's a vicious circle. ;-)

Now all we need is for a dedicated fan to pimp one of them out with a real chainsaw and the innards from an ak 47.

Clifford should stop posing for pictures and get back to designing the entire game himself.

Hypocrites abound. Nothing wrong with toy guns - better than real ones, no? Aren't all guns included in games toys, simply made of logic rather than plastic? Bet some people here have spent many times more than £70 on shooty games. Toys are fun.

Also, I own numerous toy guns and get laid frequently. I can exclusively confirm that the two facts share no correlations whatsoever.

So £70 for the gun + game, that makes the gun itself only £30... not bad

Surely that's a good thing! With the amount of time a cosplayer would have to spend in the gym it would immediately make it the healthiest group on the planet. Unless they are tour the france or olympic athletes.

It'd want to do more than shake and growl for that price.
I'm sure some "ladies of the night" offer a service like that which would be a lot cheaper and you don't need 3 C batteries. :P

There is nothing Homoerotic about gears its a fucking game!!! and a bloody good one at that!! If you're seein something Homo in it then you're probably just looking in the mirror!! Shit grow the fuck up people!!! Buying the Lancer is no different from buying a force fx lightsabre or replica of any other film/comic/game item!! The fact that you're posting here means yo were obviously interested in it enough to read the article!!! This industry needs to be purged of idiots like you!!!
