Bleszinksi confirms the news on Twitter.

The next instalment in the Gears of War series will feature a co-operative campaign for up to four players.

That's according to Epic's Cliff Bleszinksi, who wrote on his Twitter page: "Rod confirmed and I'm posting it here: 4 player integrated story co op in the campaign!"

Sounds like all the players will have a role to play in the narrative, then, and the focus won't just be on Marcus and Dom this time.

Gears of War 3 was officially announced earlier this week and will be released in Europe on 8th April 2011. Take a look at the first screenshots to see how it's shaping up.

About time it will add longevity to the whole game experience. Hope we get dedicated servers. Went back online last night on gears 2 no lag and it was great to Cog up again for the first time in 8 months. MW2 / BF2 have my attention at the mo but its still Gears in my heart when it comes to online.

I heard that Gears 3 will also be launching in April 2011 and once again it will be an Xbox 360. If they are going for 4 player co-op, i think they have got to sort out of servers for online game. I really like in this game is the information about the game, especially the 4 player co-op and that intertwining story.

I should mention that I play as Dom, but usually it's an argument over who gets to be Cole and one person isn't paying attention so the game starts and you hear "Shit! I'm Baird!"

According to a italian interview with dude huge, each character is assigned to a player slot, so if your co-op player one you marcus and if your co-op player 2 your dom etc so the only way to play say carmicheal will be to be co-op player 3 or 4 depending on how the squad is set up. Also part might deal with playing as another squad then meeting up with delta squad again.

Need to find that link, got it from the Gears 2 thread in the something awful games forums.

If it IS Anya, then she isn't goingto be the Carmine since she's already been alive for more than 30 minutes.

Speaking of Carmine, personally I'd like to see the last Carmine brother be Alpha Carmine, the greatest soldier ever. Someone so big and dangerous he makes Delta squad look like incompetent children.

The girl in the video has been confirmed as Anya, however, I was under the impression that it was a different character that was the playable female.
Also, have playable female characters been confirmed for campaign mode? It could be a multi-player only thing.
