Gears 2 tops US chart for November News

Gears of War 2 has topped the November software sales chart for the US, in what was a strong month for Xbox 360 games.

The Epic shooter shifted 1.51 million copies, according to NPD data, finishing just marginally above the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: World at War, which sold 1.41 million units.

Add the 597,000 World at War PS3 sales to that, and we have an overall winner. But let's not cheat.

Adding to the Xbox 360 cause was Left 4 Dead at eight with 410,000 units sold. No Steam or PC numbers included here, of course. But we do wonder, Valve.

The absence of PC numbers also knocks World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King out of the running, despite the impressive 1.4 million copies shifted.

The excellent Resistance 2 made the list at nine selling 385,000 copies.

But everywhere else was Wii. Familiar favourites Wii Play, Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii took three, four and five, respectively, with first-party newcomer Wii Music just about making 10.

Guitar Hero World Tour popped up on Wii at six, too, in a list absent of any Rock Band.

NPD reckoned all this shows videogames are "the category consumers are least likely to cut back on this holiday".

This month Title Platform Sales
1 Gears of War 2 Xbox 360 1.56 million
2 Call of Duty: World at War Xbox 360 1.41 million
3 Wii Play Wii 796,000
4 Wii Fit Wii 697,000
5 Mario Kart Wii Wii 637,000
6 Call of Duty: World at War PS3 597,000
7 Guitar Hero: World Tour Wii 475,000
8 Left 4 Dead Xbox 360 410,000
9 Resistance 2 PS3 385,000
10 Wii Music Wii 297,000

Or the repair cost for balance boards could make for bad news for Nintendo, like the RROD for the 360...

Another good month for Mario Kart Wii. If it keeps that pace it should overtake Mario Kart DS by the end of this year.

People who think that this is a proper exercise are deluding themselves. go jogging outside. Much healthier, cheaper and better scenery.

I know.. but most people buying Wii fit do not know this (or do not want to know this). It is a genius idea.. sell a "gaming" device to fat people. By doing almost nothing they will think they are losing weight. I am just mad I didn't think of it. Why is my games development stuck around dungeons and mathematics? :(

I wonder if I can think of a dungeon "lifestyle" game? ;) Nethack-fit? Looking for secret doors certainly will burn some calories. I will have to remove the "food" idea from the game though :P
