I agree with you man. It's just that when you expect SO much from a game like Halo and you have MS presuring your time limits its hard to do. Come to think that Halo 3 had to be designed both as an engine and as a game in general. THAt needed a lot of work and not such pressure. Yeah it wasnt all it should be. Not bad but not what it should be. It's still a great game though everyone no matter the result would expect even more from it.

GoW2 came out like not even 2 years from the first installment and its based completely on the first game. They did all they could to polish the engine and get it going to design the whole game and get it going to push it out to the gaming public. It's simple facts. Why wouldn't they? They will sell like crazy for once more cause most that have an xbox will rn and buy it. When they know they have to add up to it big time or its dead as a franchise then ofc they will build it ground up or just give it up.Or even make a new one again bassed on the last of the series and get it over with and close the franchise right there nd then work on something new with the whole team of gears. How would you expect more than what you see on the trailer?

BTW the specific clip was from a specific fast paced lvl i think. You neither anyone can know if the rest or most of the game will be anything like what we saw. That looked nice and fress but we can't know furher than that. Just that the game will be the least as pleasant to play. Not many regreted playing the first for reals and im talking about the ppl that actually owned an xbox and get to play.

I've been a gamer who respects himself + his wallet. So no I wont go around buying every console out there till i get a good game to play. I'll buy a console that does have to offer something new and a fucking variety of games from which I can get to pick what I want to play. I'll say it for once more. If a PS3 wil get to give me a list of exclusives which I so want to play and can't find anywhere else ofc I'd go buy one. I won't hide behind my finger. But right now that seems the least distant to happen from a PS3. There is just simply NOTHING guys... I mean ok I would play GT wth my friends when younger on heir consoles, PES maybe a Tekken once in a while which I always found stupid cause when I punch someone I dont see sparkles coming out in real life and thats NOT realistic and why always dissliked the series. So no neither for a KZ even if it was so great like you most think I'll spend a total of 500+ euros to play one game. I rather go buy me some new equipment for my home cinema ( since I cant upgrade my pc more than I already have ). So no more PS3 here PLS it's getting irritating already... o.O

In all seriousness, how am I biased? I loved the first game. I have an XBox 360. I want a PS3. I have a PS2, PSP, Gamecube (which admittedly has become redundant since I seriously bought a), Wii, DS, N64 and Mega Drive. Criminally (seriously) no Dreamcast. It looks like more of the same. No matter what fancy locust shield gimmick you throw in there. Seriously, it looks the same.

Dude did you read what i wrote? Or you just dissagree? GoW2 isnt a new MGS which came out 4 years later built from scratch . Its just the second episode of a great game that came out not even 2 years ago. So it's as different and new as it could get. Don't you think?

Yeah, I agree with you. My point however is that it looks more like a mission pack or episodic content. It doesn't warrant a sequel.

The best example is Half Life 2. They could have bundled Episodes 1 to 3 together as Half Life 3 but they didn't. This looks like more of the same but with a few new gimmicks that could be throw away. They should have called it an expansion.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still buying it, but I disagree with the sequel selling point.

In fact, let me edit that. I'm buying it - if it's any good. They could utterly butcher the game before release. I hope they don't.

Well yeah you could consider it like an updated version of GoW1 + that it's a whole new game though not moving on the same grounds as the first if you get my point now.. So its not really an expansion is it? :p :S Sorry but im just sleepy... ffs Though tbh Half life's episodes have nothing new unfortunatelly. Specially the game engine not updated like in this case. Only a few polished details on the chars of the game is all.

Btw something I din't see mentioned.. they better not have removed completelly the skull smassing.. Ill get pissed off for reals. I more than enjoyed the crashing specially online killing the last opponent that way made it all great feeling if you know what i mean :p

I still think that what has been done here is exactly what was done between GRAW and GRAW 2. They know it'll sell, they've slightly modified the engine, it plays the same. I can almost guarantee that there will be an overwhelming feeling of déjà vu when playing it.

My other point still stands though - if anyone defends it purely because it is Gears Of War, then that's just silly.

You mentioning Four or Five games, which over the last 20 years of home gaming did buck the trend when it comes to sequels is all well and good, but the fact remains that the vaaaaaast majority of sequels (Maybe not 98%) out there simply tack on a few new bits and bobs, improve the graphics and AI slightly, and 'Hey presto' it's Number 2 in that particular series.
The most recent being GTA 4, undeniably a brilliant game, but when it boils down to it, how radically different are its main gameplay elements when compared to Number 3?..... Still managed to get reviewed 95-100% across the board though huh.
And surely, before you throw around the rediculously overused ''Look it's GOW 1.5, LOOOOLLZ'' comments, you should wait until you've seen more than 1 minute of gameplay.

I liked the first gears so this is right up my street.

I like the fact that they've not bent to any pressure and have kept the same style as the first game.

I can see where the Sony fanboys can have their criticisms of it though, they didn't pick the best environment to show off their first gameplay trailer with the flat backgrounds and low detail trees but the character lighting and animation is second to none.

No, I don't think so.

The lighting here is better, especially from local lights.

Killzone 2 has some great filters which make the final image look nice but the actual lighting in Gears appears better, the polybumping and what looks like self-occlusion are what's helping a lot, don't really see that with killzone.

I feel compelled to back this up with some evidence.

At 1:32 of this video the NPC in front of you is standing in a lit corridor. There's a light flickering in front of him, a light partly occluded behind him and no visible light to his right. Despite this his back is almost completely dark, his shadow is cast to his left onto the wall with no shadow or darkness at all on the ground behind him and there's little visible effect from the light ahead.

An awful lot of Killzone 2 is pre-lit, so no I don't think the lighting is as good as most of it seems baked in rather than calculated.

1) Ronuds, mate, you have to understand that when you own a PS3, games are scarce, so playing the 'grasping at straws game' is often the only form of enjoyment the poor lil guys can get. Straws also come with R3AL HD and built in AA, something that PS3 games don't seem to be able to manage :'( Let the poor SDF have just the smallest bit of dignity, Have a heart man! ;-)

2)The thing is, regardless of who's saying it, it really is kinda old hat anyway. We all know Sony are a bunch of bullshitting tossers, didn't stop me buying (and actually liking) the PS3, but I think why the guy is actually upset and ranting is because Sony's lies have been detrimental to 360 sales (as intended, I'm sure) but I do see his point. I just hope MS don't use this underhanded tactic the next time they release a console, "Yeah guys, it does teh 5D and will touch your willy in HD" etc...

4)I've spent the entirety of last night looking into this exact subject because it is an extremely interesting question. The official word from R* and the general feeling around the net seems to be that the reason for the lower res is basically that the PS3 is a bit LOL and has a crippled moose of a GPU as well as having a ram reserve the size of a wasps penis.
