Gears 2 gameplay video on Live

7am Saturday.

The first gameplay footage of Gears of War 2 will be released on Xbox Live Video Store tomorrow at 7am BST, Microsoft's just announced.

Featuring a "personal introduction by Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski", it will showcase "chainsaw duels, large scale fire fights with Locust Horde and stunning new visuals" all from within the game.

Gears of War 2 is due out in November exclusively on Xbox 360.

    1.5? Lets be honest, you can't really expect them to totally overhaul the gameplay. It's a sequel, not a totally new game, of course it'll play the same. I guess we should call super mario 3 super mario 2.5?

    I don't understand the logic of why a game sequel demands new gameplay. Film sequels don't demand a radical new formula, just a new new script, new actors and new setpieces. Sometimes they're even better than the first!

    Saying that, Terminator 2 was pretty far removed from the original and all the better for it.

    Hey I didn't say a sequal demands new gameplay elements, I am just stating how I think its going to turn out.

    I hope they dont change much, I loved the first gears and like Xerx3s said, I already have plans for a Co-op sesh.

    This is a counter to the Killzone 2 re-emrgence at playstation day, i expect sony to release a 720p killzone 2 gameplay video after the Gears 2 gameplay video.

    ...until it gets ported to the PC that is. I wish MS would stop porting over/releasing at the same time all their great exclusives to PC (Halo series, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Fable). If they didn't do that, then more people would probably buy a 360.

    I'd love a kill.switch sequel. I picked the original up off eBay a couple months ago and really enjoyed it - it was flawed and too short but a good, solid game, and utterly deserving of a sequel.

    No offence intended but you must just be a tad bit dunce if you don't understand the word "console" (i.e. not a PC) and the word "context" (i.e. the game looks incredible for a console game). I'm well aware that Crysis looks better than console games but again "context" comes into it, a Ferrari looks nicer than a Ford Fiesta but a Ferrari also cost a little bit more ;-)

    Nonsense, my first car was cheap but rather nice, when people asked how much I picked it up for, they were rather impressed because I got a nice motor for a decent price, just as I'm impressed with Gears which I can play on a £160 console.

    From my understanding, Gears is built around that gameplay mechanic, which is common for most games, i.e. a key gameplay mechanic which defines the game. Take away the key gameplay mechanic of most games and you're not left with very much at all, other than the building blocks of the game itself (audio and visual). So again, his comments regarding the graphics wasn't putting it above the gameplay, since the question was what are you left with after Gear's key gameplay mechanic is taken away. :|

    That depends on how you break the game down, you could just as easily add physics, music, scripting, level design etc, but that's not the point, you claimed he put graphics first (i.e. graphics over gameplay), but with Gear's key gameplay mechanic taken out, this is not the case.

    Edit: Looking back, I fail to see why you brought the PC into the arguement (and I've been a PC gamer from the beginning). :|

    Actually I'm not, I'm saying the game is built around that cover system, therefore take away the cover mechanic and you have a totally different game. Improve or dumb down the enemy AI and you simply have a better or worse experience (it's all about balance), but the gameplay remains the same.

    Hence to take the points you made earlier, imagine if Gears of War 3 had a plot twist where your character goes back in time (naked, just like The Terminator) to the Middle Ages. So you'll have a different plot, a totally different setting, different weapons (stones, bow and arrows, crossbow, sling shot etc), hopefully improved enemy AI etc, and yet the game plays exactly the same as Gears of War! So any of those elements can change and you'll still essentially have the same game. But change/take away "the gameplay mechanic they lifted from Kill.Switch" to use your words, and you have a DIFFERENT type of game.

    EDIT: Anyway it's late where I am, so time to retire. I'll check out the GEOW2 video tomorrow. :)

    I have a nice enough PC. Good enough for Crysis so probably good enough to run GoW. Definitely good enough to tell me if I cock up some spelling. Sadly my 360 can't do that but then again it can play lots and lots of games.

    My PC can tell me if I can't spell but has about one sodding game a year worth buying. See the difference?

    Looks stunning! "More badass, indeed" lol. I never used to like shooters (never got into Halo or the like) but the first Gears introduced me to the genre and there's no going back now, this new one is really brilliant looking so far!

    but is it just me or why does the scale look all wrong, like they taken a bunch of plastic toys and stop motioned ( expertly ) them. Something to my eye looks weird and I cant put my finger on it.

    Still cant wait. Visually as pleasing as Killzone 2.

    The graphs are more crisp clear than before, more smooth and detail movement in everything, improved Unreal Engine 3 in general. That looks freaking great. I can't wait to get to play this game. and or fuck's shake don't let me see all those ppl bitching about how NOT good this ganme wil be just like many did about the first one... FFS its just stupid to even start that shit again.

    Just watched it on market place, looks good. Best graphics on 360 to date. But I expected more for some strange reason. It looks a lot like Gears 1, which is to be expected I guess. Will still get it day one, looks like a lot of fun, very very cinematic. Up there with the best of them in this department. And it's still got a long way to go.

    While it looks like Gears (bit better IMO) - what pleases me even more is it certainly seems to manage a much better frame rate - in scenes where the last engine in GOW1 would have been chugging along.

    Can't wait to be on a big gun emplacement mowing the hundreds of on screen characters down!

    GTA IV gets 10/10, all you do is go from point A to point B and shoot stuff. Same goes for MGS4, Killzone 2. Yet people are hyped for those games. Yet as soon as Gears 2 comes on the scene people start bitching about Substance and depth. It's a fucking third person shooter , what the fuck do you want it to do. Go play one of the other million poncy games out there like Ico if you want to shed a tear over a video game and think about stuff. Gears does exactly what it says on the tin, if you don't like it then boo fucking hoo.

    Just watched it, although slightly more 'epic' looking in scale, it's definitely a whole lot more of the same, but as I loved the first one that's no bad thing.
    At least 360 owners now actually get to fight against one of those big Brumak mofos, or whatever the hell they're called.
    Wonder if the Locust will be able to use one of our guys as a human shield too.

    The graphs are great since the first one, since there hasn't been any other third person shooter even close to this game and i don't think you can not agree with me. right?The game play is as fluent and easy to handle as possible which is also another really big thing about a big tittle. It's not just about the big marketing anymore. Its just that the game has all the action and visuals needed for its class. Thats why most ppl love it

    So far I have seen nothing from SONY to match this for impact, it just looks epic.

    After my 360 died & was repaired I was prepared to ditch the 360 in favor of the PS3 but I'm so glad I didn't, the PS3 is disappointing me greatly.

    Why the hell is the DS3 still not in the retail PS3 box either.

    Once again i am so glad I held off buying a PS3, SONY have a lot to prove to gamers.

    SONY have been caught napping & still cant seem to WAKE UP.

    No cause he wants to play not watch HD movies which still is a whole new subject. Plus how can BR be so good since you only get installation on the PS3 since its got no power to prosses the uncompressed filles on the fly from the BR disc and also in games like GTA IV not only you install it but you also fuck up your console.     If the single player potion of the game is better developed with more replayability and better pacing, then I think this could be a very good game indeed.

    While Gears of War and Half Life are totally different from each other, I think Epic should take a strong hard look at what Valve have done so far over the Half Life 2 saga and work on making a solid juxtaposition of story and action, with action obviously being the main focus in the case of Gears of War. Valve get it just right with absorbing you into the game world of Half Life and also offering well paced, decent action and I personally think that's exactly what Gears of War 2 needs to lift itself from the 'decent' category and into the 'classic' category.

    Basically Gears of War as a concept has a lot of potential, but I think they only really began to scratch the surface in the first game, and this time around 'more of the same' just won't cut it, they need to do more of the same and then some.

    Really enjoyed Gears of War.

    This is looking pretty good, seems they've definitely increased the number of assets that can appear on screen as per that tech demo that was revealed and paid a lot more attention to detail too.

    This should get me through Christmas quite nicely followed by KZ2 in Feb, it'll be a nice time for fans of the military grey/brown shooter genre.

    No 4 player coop yet but i enjoyed the first one soo much first time through with a mate that this is a must buy for me.

    Did this "person" even watch the footage? I understand when some people complain about certain shooters too often being basically set in grey corridors (and I agree) but the setting in the Gears 2 footage is a bloody gorgeous outdoors environment with beautiful trees, mountains and sky... So basically, yeah, stop speaking turd, if you please. As for the "macho bravado and lots of explosions", yeah, erm...It's a game about shooting aliens and blowing things up so I'm not quite sure what you expected.

    The trailer looked pretty good, but even you have to admit that Killzone looks superior. Better lighting, animation and lots of post processing that just make the game feel like you're playing in an interactive film.

    This looks very similar to the original Gears. The UE3 is starting to look dated next to engines built from the ground up.

    I just popped over to Gametrailers and re-watched what they have on Killzone 2, as a means of giving a fair reply to your post. My reply is this, you are having a laugh, right? Killzone has nothing like as much going on on-screen as Gears, one tank and about three soldiers at a time, lol (yes that was a slight exaggeration but the point stands)...And you say Gears looks "brown"...Mate, go and check KZ2 again... the screen is constantly a brownish grey tone (very much unlike Gears2). Sorry man but I LOL profusely in your general direction.

    Better in just about every department it really is, pick one... frame rate, lighting, draw distance, amount on screen, polycount by the looks of it... and so on. Richer colour pallet too(no denying they've atleast tried to address the browny/grey).

    @Swam you're an idiot KZ to KZ2 is a bigger leap yes because they are different generations.

    GoW to GoW2 is still a leap forward and Id have to say its looking better than KZ2 in alot of ways... whats the deal with that game anyway is that out this year or has it slipped till next year?(sign of they dont want to compete with GoW2 IMO, need the extra time to polish it)

    I see one difference in GOW2 and KZ2.
    KZ 2 hasn't even reached 100 posts yet. Xbots haven't invaded that thread since the game is no threat...2009 release date.

    But in this thread we are past 200 posts already. Swam & his SDF gang are showing lots of fear in here. 2 Gears of War games come out before the first next gen Killzone shows its face.

    I'm not even anti-Halo but you have to admit that 3 isn't as good as the first.

    It seems recently game studios feel they can get away with churning out indentikit sequels. Take GRAW/GRAW 2 and Rainbow Six Vegas 1/2 as prime examples. You can't defend a game that hasn't changed much. That's just utter stupidity.

    It's NOT true of every sequel however. Sonic 2 introduced a whole new move set of attacks, graphics and super transformation. Mario 2/3 were very different fromt the first. Look at Resident Evil 4. Programmers are becoming lazy because their shit sells no matter how bad it is. Your 98% generalisation is just utterly idiotic. No-one said Mario Galaxy resembled Sunshine, or Sunshine resembled 64. Once a game has a fanbase though, they can copy and paste most of the game and the foam-mouthed fanboys will buy anything. I buy games because I like gaming, not a particular character/console/genre. I mean, for example, I loved the Sonic series back in the day but people still defend it even though it went to hell in a handbasket 10 years ago.

    Swearing some crazy ass loyalty to a brand/studio is just fucking weird. REALLY fucking weird.

    You can all go ahead and eat my wavy rofles! Go talk about PS3 crap somewhere else. We are having a fest with the new GoW instalment here like it or not.

    Ppl pretending not to be Sony fanboys but yet they are in here keep talking about KZ and PS33 and xbox's limits ( specially when they have no actually knowledge on the subject ). Noone of those loosers made a comment on Kuataragi's intervew about MGS4 coming out limp cause PS3 didn't have the capabilities he expected to deliver what he wanted for his game and he was himself dissapointed on the low quality graphs. Am I wrong? NO cause he said it himself. How the fuck can any of you tell me about the xbox's limits when we have only heard about the PS3's from someone that at least knows what he is talking about? Go unload your crap somewhere else. Here is a GoW2 opinions only apparently and really I hadn't checked any of the posts since i went to the army and now after almost a year I see the same shit from kiddos and fucktards. Let them grow up. And the only reaosn i react to when I see a bunch of shit posted is cause it's my character. (reacting to stupidity)

    So yeah GoW2 will be an even better way to entertain outselves with our consoles since we are gamers anyhow.That's what matters I think. If you don't like it go wait for whatever he fuck you are expecting to play. And don't tell me about Alan Wake's delay... Not only you kep postpowning KZ2 and Home itself but also the console was postpowned for about a year and 1,5 in europe. Corect me if mistaken though im not. It's weird how some kids can actually talk about things they should have no right. it's like you bend over buttnaked and yet you tell the one infront of you "you asked for it".

    Btw is IronMan the movie anygood so i can go watch it before we go drink or its just childish plus the visual effects as a bonus? A heads up would be great :p thnx

    Looks pretty good, but then so was the original.

    I can still see the technical limitations though, the moving space is still narrow and small, they are depending on scripting to create the 'illusion' of a warzone, the shot in the video where he shoots a dozen locust was fastly cut, probably because they didnt want us to see the low-polygon models.

    I think Epic are doing fine for whats essentially a multiplatform engine, game will sell regardless of graphical and visual fidelty, it has hype surrounding it. and Hype is what sells games this Gen. ;)

    I agree with you man. It's just that when you expect SO much from a game like Halo and you have MS presuring your time limits its hard to do. Come to think that Halo 3 had to be designed both as an engine and as a game in general. THAt needed a lot of work and not such pressure. Yeah it wasnt all it should be. Not bad but not what it should be. It's still a great game though everyone no matter the result would expect even more from it.

    GoW2 came out like not even 2 years from the first installment and its based completely on the first game. They did all they could to polish the engine and get it going to design the whole game and get it going to push it out to the gaming public. It's simple facts. Why wouldn't they? They will sell like crazy for once more cause most that have an xbox will rn and buy it. When they know they have to add up to it big time or its dead as a franchise then ofc they will build it ground up or just give it up.Or even make a new one again bassed on the last of the series and get it over with and close the franchise right there nd then work on something new with the whole team of gears. How would you expect more than what you see on the trailer?

    BTW the specific clip was from a specific fast paced lvl i think. You neither anyone can know if the rest or most of the game will be anything like what we saw. That looked nice and fress but we can't know furher than that. Just that the game will be the least as pleasant to play. Not many regreted playing the first for reals and im talking about the ppl that actually owned an xbox and get to play.

    I've been a gamer who respects himself + his wallet. So no I wont go around buying every console out there till i get a good game to play. I'll buy a console that does have to offer something new and a fucking variety of games from which I can get to pick what I want to play. I'll say it for once more. If a PS3 wil get to give me a list of exclusives which I so want to play and can't find anywhere else ofc I'd go buy one. I won't hide behind my finger. But right now that seems the least distant to happen from a PS3. There is just simply NOTHING guys... I mean ok I would play GT wth my friends when younger on heir consoles, PES maybe a Tekken once in a while which I always found stupid cause when I punch someone I dont see sparkles coming out in real life and thats NOT realistic and why always dissliked the series. So no neither for a KZ even if it was so great like you most think I'll spend a total of 500+ euros to play one game. I rather go buy me some new equipment for my home cinema ( since I cant upgrade my pc more than I already have ). So no more PS3 here PLS it's getting irritating already... o.O

    Dissrespecting eachother for MS either Sony's shake makes it all just too stupid. Just say your damn opinion and leave it there. Not hard to at least try to start acting and communicating like adults even if most of you aren't. ( not that adults are so much better in communicating either BUT.... but o.O ) I'm not lecturing anyone btw. I'm just bored and Im wasting my time till I go to consert since Im not working today!     In all seriousness, how am I biased? I loved the first game. I have an XBox 360. I want a PS3. I have a PS2, PSP, Gamecube (which admittedly has become redundant since I seriously bought a), Wii, DS, N64 and Mega Drive. Criminally (seriously) no Dreamcast. It looks like more of the same. No matter what fancy locust shield gimmick you throw in there. Seriously, it looks the same.

    Yeah, I agree with you. My point however is that it looks more like a mission pack or episodic content. It doesn't warrant a sequel.

    The best example is Half Life 2. They could have bundled Episodes 1 to 3 together as Half Life 3 but they didn't. This looks like more of the same but with a few new gimmicks that could be throw away. They should have called it an expansion.

    Don't get me wrong, I'm still buying it, but I disagree with the sequel selling point.

    In fact, let me edit that. I'm buying it - if it's any good. They could utterly butcher the game before release. I hope they don't.

Well yeah you could consider it like an updated version of GoW1 + that it's a whole new game though not moving on the same grounds as the first if you get my point now.. So its not really an expansion is it? :p :S Sorry but im just sleepy... ffs Though tbh Half life's episodes have nothing new unfortunatelly. Specially the game engine not updated like in this case. Only a few polished details on the chars of the game is all.

    Btw something I din't see mentioned.. they better not have removed completelly the skull smassing.. Ill get pissed off for reals. I more than enjoyed the crashing specially online killing the last opponent that way made it all great feeling if you know what i mean :p

    I still think that what has been done here is exactly what was done between GRAW and GRAW 2. They know it'll sell, they've slightly modified the engine, it plays the same. I can almost guarantee that there will be an overwhelming feeling of déjà vu when playing it.

    My other point still stands though - if anyone defends it purely because it is Gears Of War, then that's just silly.

    You mentioning Four or Five games, which over the last 20 years of home gaming did buck the trend when it comes to sequels is all well and good, but the fact remains that the vaaaaaast majority of sequels (Maybe not 98%) out there simply tack on a few new bits and bobs, improve the graphics and AI slightly, and 'Hey presto' it's Number 2 in that particular series.
    The most recent being GTA 4, undeniably a brilliant game, but when it boils down to it, how radically different are its main gameplay elements when compared to Number 3?..... Still managed to get reviewed 95-100% across the board though huh.
    And surely, before you throw around the rediculously overused ''Look it's GOW 1.5, LOOOOLLZ'' comments, you should wait until you've seen more than 1 minute of gameplay.

    I liked the first gears so this is right up my street.

    I like the fact that they've not bent to any pressure and have kept the same style as the first game.

    I can see where the Sony fanboys can have their criticisms of it though, they didn't pick the best environment to show off their first gameplay trailer with the flat backgrounds and low detail trees but the character lighting and animation is second to none.

    No, I don't think so.

    The lighting here is better, especially from local lights.

    Killzone 2 has some great filters which make the final image look nice but the actual lighting in Gears appears better, the polybumping and what looks like self-occlusion are what's helping a lot, don't really see that with killzone.

    At 1:32 of this video the NPC in front of you is standing in a lit corridor. There's a light flickering in front of him, a light partly occluded behind him and no visible light to his right. Despite this his back is almost completely dark, his shadow is cast to his left onto the wall with no shadow or darkness at all on the ground behind him and there's little visible effect from the light ahead.

    An awful lot of Killzone 2 is pre-lit, so no I don't think the lighting is as good as most of it seems baked in rather than calculated.

The same would apply to people like those in this thread complaining vehemently about Gears 2. They should refrain from talking about it if they're gonna talk shit.     1) Ronuds, mate, you have to understand that when you own a PS3, games are scarce, so playing the 'grasping at straws game' is often the only form of enjoyment the poor lil guys can get. Straws also come with R3AL HD and built in AA, something that PS3 games don't seem to be able to manage :'( Let the poor SDF have just the smallest bit of dignity, Have a heart man! ;-)

    2)The thing is, regardless of who's saying it, it really is kinda old hat anyway. We all know Sony are a bunch of bullshitting tossers, didn't stop me buying (and actually liking) the PS3, but I think why the guy is actually upset and ranting is because Sony's lies have been detrimental to 360 sales (as intended, I'm sure) but I do see his point. I just hope MS don't use this underhanded tactic the next time they release a console, "Yeah guys, it does teh 5D and will touch your willy in HD" etc...

    4)I've spent the entirety of last night looking into this exact subject because it is an extremely interesting question. The official word from R* and the general feeling around the net seems to be that the reason for the lower res is basically that the PS3 is a bit LOL and has a crippled moose of a GPU as well as having a ram reserve the size of a wasps penis. Hope that helps ;)

    I'm not saying it looks bad, it doesn't, but it just doesn't match up to MGS4 or Killzone 2. Killzone clearly looks like it will set a new standard for console games, but I guess that isn't surprising when Epic are tweaking an old engine with GOW2. The textures are nice in places, but generally they are very bland (ie look at the rocks).

    And the explosions are very poor. Hopefully Epic can sort this out before its released.

    My point is that the UE3 engine has been around for some time now. I would have thought that was pretty obvious...I guess GOW2 uses a slightly updated version of it, but from the looks of things it cant compete with the best ones built from the ground up. Look at that demo, only a few of the ememies/locusts were actually involved in the battle. Also, the animation looks the same as the first one.

    Well you have to understand that the game is a sequel to the one that came out a bit more than a year ago and not 4-5 years ago. You expect a built of the game new as of the scratch when its not possible within the time distance of it happening. You could expect that if it was a period of at least 3 years for such a project but no i prefer to play a new GoW now than in 2-3 more years. Also the graphs are better and the model movement is better and way more smooth. I think its as obvious as it can get even for your eyes. Think you should check the video again either you really never played enough the first one. trust me I know and I CAN know that for sure. Effects are improved as well and the depth is more intence. The example of this ingame footage indeed proves that the specific npcs are untouchable where many BUT its cuse thats how the scripted part is meant to work for that part. Not me neither you can know how the game is supossed to be rather than what we see for now. That doesnt mean anything just cause they wont be affected by bullets at that specific part and only. The animation IS improved. Just recheck will only help u se it I guess. If not sorry bu i cant help you

    I guess it is a matter of style to begin with. The character models have a destinct look, the animations have and the choice of colours (take a look at those trees) is questionable. Some, a considerable amount of people, will like, some won't.

    I Hope all you moaners have at least had the decency to watch the vid in HD.
    I though it looked pretty good, the 2 new guns looked ok.
    The vehicle sections were never my favourite and look forward to seeing some ground battles hopefully with more locusts.
    I too hope they keep the curb stomp as that used to be a satisfying way to kill the last opponent on multiplayer.
    I can see the chainsaw duel being a laugh at 1st but potentially annoying and people are bound to start moaning about lag and modded pads for being beaten every time.
    But the clincher for me will be using the human body shield thing in multiplayer against angry American kids, oh the joy.

    Things I’d like to see added:
    Proximity chat so you could give your mate some stick before you break his neck.
    A flamethrower to battle the hoards of locusts (but its got to be powerful, like melt them to skeletons powerful)

He used to be a very vocal and devoted Sony defender in the past, mostly before the PS3 was eventually released here in EU, but he has changed his tune recently. I don't know why, maybe he realized the PS3 has not so far delivered or something, but the point remains he is not as bullish or blinded as others and he doesn't deserve this. That doesn't (and shouldn't) mean that he won't respond if provoked or attacked, as everyone would.

    Well you ought to understand for urself though the the coloring of the objects on which you are talking about its purelly not a graphical issue but a choice on the gaming mood they want to create. I dont think that a GoW in that matter would look as good with shinier colors...The contrast in this game is have its glory. Like a Condemned with different colors or more lights would ruin the mood of the game if you know what i mean. The thing with gears is that its got that dark, brutal ,action packed paced thing in it that makes the game itself fun to play... The animation I actually found it the best improvement in the game. Check the vid again and see the difference if you remember exacly how the first one was. Its really improved.

    Ffs Im still waiting to be picked up for the consert.. We will be freakin' late :S

    Heres some observations:

    Gears 2 Looks better than Killzone in alot of ways(to be fair it looks good too but its no bench mark, alot of depth of feild in there, and LOD I think), its already apparent that it's more intense with a faster pace and a rock steady framerate IMO.

    Swam doesnt know what he's talking about and needs his eyes checked.

    Xbox may have its fans, fanboys ect... but Sony's fanboys are by far the most renowned for trolling threads where they dont belong out of bitterness and anxiety of the threat that 360 and all its key titles possess.

    Gears 2 looking better than Killzone 2? Only to an obsessed Fantard XBOT.

    There's more geometry transformation, a steadier and more solid framerate, more colourful environs, more detailed and better animated in game characters, and a lot more scripted events going on in a fully explorable envornment.
    On the other hand, Gears 2 has a totally on the rails experience, with everything controlled so you cant wander too far and find the scenery is either forced perspective 2d, or a sphere that rotates with a few objects to create the ilusion of a long draw distance. (that's one of the benefits of a mountainous scene).

    I'm pretty sure KZ2 will look good *when* it's released but God knows when that will be, not this year for sure, most sites are now offering it for the end of Feb2009 (but again, that means nothing) so I'd guess we'll see it mid next year almost a year after Gears2. Anyway, regardless of visuals (which are still obviously not going to be up to Gears2 standards imo) will the game be any good? That's what really interests me, I can basically guarantee that I'll love Gears because the last one was ace, can't say the same for KZ though .. We'll see..

    I don't see why the hard on for KZ2 to be honest. The first KZ wasn't much cop so why are the SDF pinning so much hope on it?

    Gears1 on the other hand was superb funfest (especially online), I have more faith in GOW2 than KZ2 (which I probably won't buy anyway). Besides KZ2 won't be around until Feb 2009 at least so why does it really matter?

    It does kind of speak in volumes that there are 370 + posts (many from the SDF) in this thread, but only 100+ posts in the KZ2 thread. Now this could be for one of two reasons, either KZ2 is not really that anticipated by anyone (even the SDF) or the SDF care more about trolling 360 threads than actually talking about a game they all proclaim to love so much in the appropriate area. Microsoft lied for 2 years about their RROD, they practically dumped the xbox 1 with no support once their new console came out and yet this is never mentioned i mean the PS2 is still going ffs.

    BTW someone mentioned something i mentioned earlier. Yeah the lvl they chose to throw in the trailer is tricky. You really can't know if the rest of the game will be any more intence, better looking or tempting for the gamer( and that really has to do with the likes of anyone ) either it could turn out to be just lame the rest of it. Though GoW can't be so dissapointing. They'd have to try hard to make the rest of the game be lame actually...

    Gears 2 looks nice, it looks similar to the first one, but the technical limitations of the system and the Engine are still there.

    You still have a small, narrow moving space in Gears 2, they are depending on heavy scripting to creat the 'illlusion' of a warzone, in reality there is a limited number of enemies at each given time, even the shot where he targets a dozen locust was very fastly cut, probably so that we cant see the low polygon models.

    Its like they are putting you in this small controled enviroment, and they throw things at you to give you the feeling of a grand battle, something god of war did too,

    I think they did well for whats essentially a multiplayer engine, but there is a limit to what they can do, the special effects are really poor, the animations are still poor. the 'actual' enviroments are still small 'and by enviroments i mean enviroments that you can actually reach and interact with'.

    Its unfair to compare this to Killzone 2, that is built on a properiatory engine with a huge budget on an overall more powerfull system, its in a different level. ;)

    360 is only selling well in one market...and its precisely because MS like to concentrate on action games like Gears' (which was good, but slightly overrated, which is why EG gave it 7). With MGS4 dropping in 4 weeks, Sony will pull further away from MS in Europe, and I expect them to continue outselling MS in the US.

    Gears should be better than the original, but it wont sell that many units like MGS4 will. In any case, Resistance 2 will be Sony's counter at the end of year. Killzone 2 will also be heavily advertised as a reminder of its likely technical superiority over Gears 2.

    All-in-all, I see 360 selling around 30m before sales taper off.

    Not really because it won't be coming out in anything like the same time frame as Gears2 as is now part 'n' parcel with anything DelayStation related. By the time you actually get KZ2 (prolly about august 2011) Gears of War 5 will most likely be on the shelves. This is of course all irrelevant though, as KZ2 isn't really that special from what we've seen :'(

    I`m just replying to Calgons reply where he mentioned he disliked Sony`s practices which imo are nothing to what MS has done to its fan base regarding the dumping of the original xbox and the multiple hardware problems currently on the 360. You may never have experienced any of these, don't mean they aren't there and im sure theres plenty in this thread thats on their 3-4 console. I have also read about `unexplained ` console errors on the PS3 but I believe its a tiny %, I dont know.

    Its basically that issue I was querying. Still, my sons 360 is still going strong and hopefully for a long time. :)

    Vic you talk of MS concentrating on action games and then go on to bark about Sonys better titles, which funnily are all action games as well. Was exactly was your point apart from trying the usual my games are better than your games.

    As for all the PS3 willy waving, KZ and Resistance are mediocre titles, only the most hardened SDF member would say otherwise so why all the bragging about the sequels? It's not like they are Halo. Admittedly KZ2 footage looks good but most 360 owners would say you can keep those titles we really don't care!

    Well, all I can say is that I enjoyed GOW and thought that Killzone was awfull... Do you remember the hype around KZ? Now that the second round is coming we'll simply have to wait and see... but if I have to base my choice on what I played before it'll be GOW hands down. Having said that I could buy both systems not having anything against Sony (I still own a PSX, a PS2 and a PSP) but why should I with hardly any games to play (that I can't already find for 360 and often in better versions)?
    I don't understand why theres all the fanboy bollocks, we all can simply compare number of titles, online service and hardware price... for now the winner is 360 no doubt, common sense, no need to go through endless tech spec bullshit. In the future if Sony stops pissing around and decides to release a decent exclusive set of titles then I think many people that now own and have fun with a 360 might as well consider buying a PS3. I'm not buying a new console for Blueray because I couldn't give a shit.

    Loving the trailer!

    Like many have said already, the obvious improvement this time is the scale of the battles. The bit where Marcus looks down on 20-30 locust running around looks amazing.

    Overall I think it looks really promising and when you consider Epic have still got about 6 months left on it then I think we can safely say it's going to be pretty damn good.

    lets end this madness - ill get gow2 when it comes out on the 360 it looks cool. i also will be picking up a ps3 in the late autumn as id like to play a few games on ps3 now killzone 2 among them and everybodies golf. i never judge a game from platform just from the games.
    ideally one would be so good that the other would fade away and u could get all the stuff one one console but as you need both due to exclusives so be it. the xb360 has the ease of connectivity and online sown up so far this gen - fact! - the ps3 has a blueray player which due to the end of the format war now looks like it will 100% be the disc medium of choise - Fact! -
    there will allways be a few killer app exclusives on both hardware platforms to make us suckers who want the whole pie get both, oh and if u want mm0 goodness get a pc too :p this is reallity the rest is just people trying to justify there purchase of one platform over another.
    its been a great few years for xb360 slowly ps3 is catching up game wise and i hear psn is getting better so both will have stuff going for them.
    this one will run and run.. :)

    DaemonB we will have to wait and see about that, just remember this is the first ever footage of the game aswell, personally I fully expect you will see those sorts of numbers in battle at some points(probably not in the early levels, they could save those instances for the right moments and for the sake of a nice learning curve for new comers).

    oh and an unbiased opinion..xbox 360..games are generally better looking and smoother..

    PS3 games..feel more love has gone into them..menu intefaces, cinematics..the console also feels more HD..the PS3 inteface is 1080p..xbox 360s blade looks terrible in comparison.

    personally..i see what ps3 is capable of..(Drakes fortune) at the moment..its my blu ray/GT5 player..i think its a console that needed to be released at least 3 years ago for the game developers to get a handle on its tech..

    xbox is further in the console cycle..when developers finally release AA stunning PS3 games..the xbox 480 will be out!

    i think Sony are fighting a losing battle..which is a shame as its a slick console!

    Disappointed. Graphically anyway. It really does look like an expansion rather than a sequel. Ah well, still love the first one.

    Not going to stop me getting it of course, the co-op and death-matching is still my favorite of any online game. But some of that texturing was just plain horrible.... hope they fix that.

    I'll preorder Gears 2 for sure and I'm also sure I'll annihilate countless hours of my life having a blast with my mates just like I did with the first game which was a work of utter genius.
