Gears 2 All Fronts accidentally released

Then pulled. But some people got it.

Microsoft accidentally uploaded the forthcoming Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection to Xbox Live Marketplace late last week for half its planned cost.

"Earlier this morning, the Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection Game Add-on was briefly made available on Xbox Live for 800 Microsoft Points," the company said in a statement about it (thanks Joystiq).

"The content has since been removed and will launch on Tuesday, July 28th worldwide as planned, together with the Dark Corners Game Add-on. Pricing will remain as originally intended (1600 and 1200 Microsoft Points for All Fronts Collection and Dark Corners, respectively).

"The small, lucky group of Xbox Live members who were able to download the content during the short window it was available will be able to retain the content for the price at which it was purchased as well as keep all related Achievements. There won't be any penalties for those who purchased this content early. Think of it as a lucky treat for those with quick reflexes!"

Or think of it as a massive cock-up, if you like.

Dark Corners is an expansion that consists of seven new multiplayer maps and a new campaign chapter called Road to Ruin, while All Fronts combines that with the existing Flashback, Combustible and Snowblind map packs.

God damn it. I might have purchased it for 800 points.

This is why I love you, Eurogamer

If they: (1) spent less time creating and releasing price-attracting map packs; (2) stopped releasing title updates that generally make the MP worse; (3) spent less time being ridiculous, contemptuous assholes on their own web-board... they could actually expend effort fixing their netcode/match-making and I might get more excited.

MS to DLC: BACK IN YER HOLE

Yet Again EPIC FAIL from Ms :)
They should reduce the price to 800 now, gw 2 is still a major rip off.

Yep, I can tell you its great!

Why have Epic sold the multiplayer maps and the campaign chapter together? Wouldn't it have been more sensible to have sold them separately for 800 and 400 MP respecively for those people like myself who have no interest in the online modes outside of split screen co-op?

Thank God for Microsoft's leniency in this matter. Everyone should've known this was too cheap and should've said to themselves, "Wait just a second, only 800 points?! Something is definitely not right here! I'm just going to wait a while before this clarified by the good chaps from Microsoft. You know what, I'm actually gonna call them and ask them!"

So next time just wait a week or so before downloading suspiciously cheap DLC, otherwise you could get banned!

    It can be both.

Marketplace has been very shonky of late, when Sam & Max and Magic appeared the links were borked for some time, Battlefield was there long before it showed under New Arrivals or Browse. It seems as MS have got the hang of getting a lot of great games on XBLA, they've forgotten which buttons to press to deploy them properly.

I would have bought for 800 as I wouldn't mind the extra campaign stuff but no interest in the multiplayer maps given the online is utter shite.
  • BillyBrush #12 3 years ago

Yea, the extra chapert is the bit of interest, i suppose they know this and that's why they bundle it with maps for a pretty penny

Oh good, I figured they'd have their knees broken or something: after all MS fucked up and accidentally released it early at a reasonable price but some people had the gall to actually buy it! Shooting's too good for them!

Too expensive, sure as hell not interested in multi-player maps and bundling them with the single-player content makes it a no for me.
  • makeamazing #15 3 years ago

Agree with Sneetch...I dont understand why there should even be any suggestion of penalties... it wasnt the users fault that it was uploaded onto an online store...then users purchased it.
  • tesco #16 3 years ago

No one had suggested there were to be any penalties but one of the purposes of this press release is to clear things up.
If they hadn't have said so then they would have had people worrying that they would lose precious achievements etc.
Nothing more sinister than that. Calm down chaps.
  • Lebowski #17 3 years ago

I like to think there's a Father Dougal type working at M$; who stands, wide-eyed, staring at a big red "DO NOT PRESS" button. And God bless him.

I believe everyone is calm. Just a sideways comment on their poor choice of words: stating that there'd be "no penalties" implies that the people who bought this early did something wrong but they'll let them get away with it.

    Edit: comment not commenting

This happens waaaaaaay too often, with a bunch of different companies, to be an accident.

Either there's people deliberately leaking them just to mess things up, or so they can get them early for themselves, or - they're just big publicity stunts.
  • frankfurter209 #20 3 years ago

Forget it. They completely ruined Horde with the retry option and the matches only get laggier and laggier. Just steal Bungie's netcode or something, because GOW2 sucks online.
  • Grayvern #21 3 years ago

im almost guaranteed to see the extra single player then cause im not paying for maps, I dont wish to pay for gold so ill never use them. Especially considering that for 1600 points you can buy both Broken Steel and the Pit.
