GDC: Wii MotionPlus still set for spring News

Wii News by Tom Bramwell

27 March, 2009

Nintendo of America kingpin Reggie Fils-Aime ducked questions about the launch date for the Wii MotionPlus add-on yesterday at GDC.

Fils-Aime dismissed a proposed June date and suggestions of development hold-ups as "rumour and speculation".

However, he did have this to tell MTV: "The status of MotionPlus is consistent with what we talked about at E3."

What was that then? Well, if you consult our Nintendo E3 2008 press conference transcript, you'll find Fils-Aime saying it will "launch globally next spring", which would have it out by the end of May.

Unless of course he was referring to its technical capabilities, but then he told MTV that those had changed since last E3. "The level of motion capability is far in excess of what we showed at E3," he said.

We'll be bringing you our impressions of a few MotionPlus games very soon, so stick around. Nintendo UK told Eurogamer this morning that the target is still "spring".

I read that motionplus would require current/old software to be updated to use it fully or otherwise it would be a redundant add on as the normal main sensors would still be used?

its does add more sensitivity that is sorely missed in certain games but motionplus being added to remote doesnt automatically solve the problem if not been updated?

EDIT: http://gizmodo.com/5025659/wii-motionplu...

The article clearly referred to the need for the support from devs inc Nintendo's own Wii Sports which doesnt use motionplus

^^^ Surely it will only be new games with motion sensor plus (MSP) support that will use it e.g. Wii Sports Resort. Games that don't utilize MSP will just be like regular Wii games. Spots market for Wii+ with HD visuals and MSP built in, in a few years.

I wonder what he means when he says "The level of motion capability is far in excess of what we showed at E3''.
Does that mean its even more accurate?

Oh yes, the device that makes the wii-mote do what it should have done at launch. I love it when companies do this kind of thing, hype sumthing up, & then flog sumthing to the consumer in a way that screws them. Well done nintendo, jump on the bandwagon with Apple & Sony :o)

Perhaps wii owners can use it to simulate them having a hand shandy over old tired Nintendo classics like Zelda Kart
