Microsoft has skilfully stuck a sticker suggesting a price of GBP 280 (EUR 414) on its Halo 3-themed Xbox 360.

That means you might see a little variation in the asking price when it's launched alongside the game on 26th September.

Those of you splashing out will be treated to a fancy Spartan-green and gold paint job, HDMI port, 20GB hard drive and lots of other bits and pieces I will bore you with by listing; a wireless controller, wired headset, special Halo 3 theme and gamer pictures, component HD AV cable, Ethernet cable, Play & Charge Kit (handy), and one month of Live Gold membership.

Microsoft recently paved the way for the new Halo 3 and Elite consoles by lowering the price of Premium and Core packs in Europe.

Coupled with a strong Christmas line-up including the imminent and fantastic BioShock, it looks set to be a busy and successful period for Microsoft.

what they don't tell you is there is no copy of the actual game!!! for £20 more you can get the elite. Basically you are paying £30 for a Halo paint job

I spose, but to Call it the Halo edition and not include the game is lunacy. And I am lead to belive the difference between HDMI and Component is minimal. Plus for £20 more you can get the huge hardrive,which they are charging £130 for separately and a more attractive (IMO) console.

Is this the only way anyones seen to guarantee a hdmi equipped premium from an etailer? Amazon doesn't seem to know if it's regular premiums are the new version.

Ok, I know people are always berating Sony for the stupid mistakes it makes but this decision by Microsoft is just moronic. It desperatly needs Halo 3 to be a big success to re-ignite sales and the best thing it could have done was to at least include the game in this bundle. The 360 is already struggling.

I completely agree. I love Microsoft. They're dependant (mostly) and provide us wth good exclusives and a brilliant online. So why then, do they flash Halo so much?All this Halo xbox360 malarchy just baffles me.

I don't love Microsoft, especially as I have a PS3. However, looking at this subjectively, no matter what platform I prefer, this is a dumb move. Microsoft had a perfect opportunity to create a real knock-out package for £270. Or, for a limited period, they should have bundled it for free with the Elite. If their sales are ever going to pick up, they need to think smarter than this.

Mine's still going after 1 year 4 months ;)

btw PS3 didn't outsell 360 during July in USA...haha
So I don't think MS has to lower their price so soon
And there is no knockout punch because gamers are going to buy the PS3 (including me) regardless of what MS does.

I'm a gamer and I'm not going to 'buy the PS3 regardless'. I can't see one good reason why anyone would... I mean really? Just out of curiosity, why would I wanna buy a PS3 over a 360? (Haven't got a 360 yet so there's still time to convert me fanboys!)

And I was thinking about this digital tv thing which is about the only thing thats made me rise an impressed eyebrow at the PS3 since that naughty dog game in the entire history of the PS3. But who that can afford a PS3 isn't gonna have sky anyway?

- Halo 3 Special Edition Wireless Controller
- Halo 3 Special Edition 20GB Hard Drive
- Halo 3 Special Edition Wired Headset
- Halo 3 Special Edition Gamer Pics and Theme (Exclusive download via Xbox LIVE)

Let's see

- I have a wireless controller. Unless it sprouted wires while I wasnt looking - it doesnt need to be replaced.
- I have a 20G HDD
- I have a wired headset
- I have the Halo 3 theme and pics they released earlier this year.

So I'm not shelling any cash out for this. Elite is a vague possibility - this is just . . . no
