GC: Euro Rock Band in 2008 News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

22 August, 2007

Rock Band has been delayed in Europe until the first quarter of 2008, but will be fully localised for each territory, on both disc and downloadable content. It's also coming to PS2, home of original Guitar Hero success.

The news erupted from the EA Games Convention conference in Leipzig, where Harmonix co-founder Alex Rigopulos took to the stage to detail the much-anticipated title.

Among the highlights was a revelation that 10 new tracks would make the starting line-up for the title, but the price of Rock Band is still to be confirmed.

The ten new tracks are as follows:

  • Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
  • Deep Purple - Highway Star
  • The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go
  • Faith No More - Epic
  • Beastie Boys - Sabotage
  • Radiohead - Creep
  • Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl
  • Nine Inch Nails - The Hand That Feeds
  • Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock
  • OK Go - Here It Goes Again

That will, at least, prevent some of us Europeans splashing out for both Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3 at the same time.

No...

Please say that just the on screen texts will be localised, and not the actual songs...
Don't you dare put italian rock into that game!
I'm getting GH III if you try anything stupid like that!...

Well, that's going to cost them.

I'll still be getting it to have something that doesn't look like a badly designed child's toy to play it, however, and most importantly, to DRUM.

The PS3 version should be region free, so import should be an option. I already placed a pre-order at dvdboxoffice. We'll sit and wait.

I'm mainly interested in the drums. Actually what I would really like is to allow a completely "free" drum-along mode. In other words just drum along to the song as you see fit - just for fun. That option could work for the vocals too. But only because both those are the closest to 'real' instruments in terms of interface - so obviously the guitar wouldnt work in that context.

Aren't all PS3 games region-free, anyway? So importing should be an option, albeit probably linked with massive import tax on top of it.

It's possible that music games aren't region free on the PS3, due to music licencing issues - we'll see. If it's no problem, I predict a fair bit of importing. ;)

I would have thought the online part of Rock Band is the big selling point for people without £££ to spend on all the peripherals, or friends who regularly come over the play. Seems like the PS2 version will be a bit rubbish because of that.

That would mean I'd have 2 guitars already for PS2...

Being on PS2 will help the sales of this brand. GH3 is going to be out on PS3, PS2, 360 AND Wii

If they can get it out on Wii they could destroy GH

I really don't like this localisation nonsense either and apparently it will extend into DLC as well. Why can't we all just get the same songs and then pick exactly what extra DLC we want. I don't want to be denied playing along to certain bands because some guy in a suit thinks its not applicable to our region.
