GC: Dark Sector dated News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

23 August, 2007

D3Publisher of Europe has used its formal sounding name to stamp a 22nd January release date on Dark Sector.

It's the PS3 and 360 third-person shooter marketing itself as a game you think you know but don't, which is actually a fairly accurate description.

You see, despite looking like lots of other Unreal Engine 3-powered games, it actually has more in common with titles like Zelda - as you use your experimental powers to solve puzzles and conjure up strategies for clearing rooms full of bad guys.

We went to see it back in March and were pleasantly surprised, promising ourselves to keep an eye out for the playable version at the Games Convention 2007 show happening now in Leipzig, Germany.

Meanwhile you should cast an eye over our Dark Sector preview and all of the screenshots and trailers in our Dark Sector gamepage.

Pity it has changed so much from the original video 2 years ago, when it was much more "sci fi".

I normally hate sci-fi (excpet when it's done like mass effect, you know, with daylight).

But I also hate these horror things more and more.

Ah, who cares. Back to Bioshock.

Still not sure on this. Think it's going to appear much too generic by today's standards, now that it's been changed so much (as Kiigan mentioned).

I'm still looking forward to at least firing up the demo, though.

Isn't it also not "Unreal 3 powered" as U3 wasn't finished when they started making the game?

plus it's also not a UE3 game as the devs looked at UE3 and thought it wasn't ready for them.

Why the hell didn't they keep the original premise!!? With the engine, music and that uber-suit it would've been so much better than what the end result will be . . .

I was interested in this. Until they fucked up and completely changed it. A must buy that changed into a no buy.

As far as I know the original demo was just a tech demo, not to be made in a full game anyway. I do hope they'll do something with it someday.

Still, I'll think I get Dark Sector anyway, maybe not as cool as the original tech demo, but it does look like a nice game anyway.

Really looking forward to getting my hands on this game. Surprised it hasn't garnered more attention. Nice nick by the way Raziel. You a Soul Reaver fan? :)
