GC: Best Of winners revealed

Crysis, BioShock, PES 2008.

The winners of the Best in Show awards from this year's Games Convention in Leipzig have been announced, GamesIndustry.biz reports, with Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 taking two awards for Best PlayStation 2 game and Best PlayStation 3 game.

Bioshock won the award for Best Xbox 360 game, while Crysis took the accolade for the Best PC title and Mario & Sonic at the Olympics was voted Best Wii game.

The awards were open to any title that was being exhibited at the show, which wasn't going to be published before the show started - meaning that Bioshock only just made it in.

There was an award scheduled for Best Mobile title, but it was not awarded because there were only two entries.

The full list of winners:

  • PC category: Crysis
  • Xbox category: BioShock
  • PSP category: God of War: Chains of Olympus
  • PS2 category: PES 2008
  • PS3 category: PES 2008

I think it is very bad for a next gen console manufacturer when your best of the show game is shared with your previous gen console... and we're talking about a several years old sport franchise too... ouch.

I'm surprised and very curious about Conan though....

Mario & Sonic at the Olympics??? Am I missing something here?? People voted for that over Super Mario Galaxy or wasn't SMG present at Leipzig?

no sub-machine guns at the conference

Conan was surprising, yeah - might be because it's Euro-developed.

The shortlist was Hellgate, Quake Wars and Conan. WAR and WOW: Lich King were on show, though, as was LOTRO: Book 10. But I'm not really that sure how it was all decided.

I'm still excited about Conan, even though I shouldn't submit myself to an MMO again ever... probably.

I take it means playable demoes on the show floor which the likes of Killzone and MGS4 weren't.

Although I think Uncharted was very strange.

Everyone knows Dual Shock/Siaxis is the shit for Pro Evo and it looks like Germany agrees.

PES - 2008 a winner on the PS3, you have to be joking, it is so BAD, Fifa 08 PS3 kicks it all over the place.
  • Balfa #15 5 years ago

Yeah, Betty, because you've played both.

Anyway, EG, when are we going to get your GC thoughts on PES?

By the way, neuroniky, it's also bad for a both next gen consoles when your best game also appears on the PC but isn't good enough to be the best PC game.
  • neuroniky #16 5 years ago

Balfa: I partially agree with that. Partially because Bioshock is so good and it will be the 2K7 GOTY for almost everybody out there for sure... I didn't see a game so well received (and deserving all the praises its getting) since Ocarina of Time was released...

But I agree with you that its a little bit worrying that this "next generation" is already suffering in comparison to the PC world in the graphics department, since this could mean that this gen will have a shorter lifespan than expected...

What I wanted to say, however, is that it looks like the PS3 is suffering from lack of games right now, and this is not a good sign for a console that should be entering the second phase of its lifespan...

Aren't all those supposed to be 2007 releases? Maybe they are concentrating on awarding this year's releases. I dunno though, as it wouldn't make much sense to me if it was the case, as those released in 2008 but before next year's GC would then miss out.

Mass Effect PAL for 2008. I betcha. Or at the very least mid-December '07.
