GAME's GOWIII bundle costs £110

Skins! Blu-rays! Soundtracks! Art book.

GAME's been taking pre-orders for the God of War III Ultimate Trilogy edition since last night.

That's news for two reasons: its 20th March release date and its whopping price tag of £109.99.

Pay that and you'll receive God of War III, the God of War Collection (Blu-ray GOW I & II), Combat Arena DLC, four exclusive skins, a video, the soundtrack to all three games, a heavy metal compilation, art book, postcards and a bloody great Pandora's Box replica to keep it all in.

We're chasing Sony about the date, as the publisher's not announced anything more specific than March 2010 so far.

    FARK!

    Import it is then.
  • SlackMaster #2 2 years ago

That's about £40 too much IMO.
  • Ninja_Tino #3 2 years ago

I can't see it being better than Bayonetta, in all honesty.

That explains the lack of a standalone European release for the God of War Collection last year.
  • henrix #6 2 years ago

I ordered this last night. Crazy price i know but since i first heard about this package months ago i knew i was going to get it whatever the price.
  • chukcyQ #7 2 years ago

Oh I thought Gears of War...
  • bystander #8 2 years ago

Not sure the date's entirely accurate as the 20th of March is a Saturday?

The price is too much though IMO, the US Ultimate Edition is $90 from Amazon...
  • Pastici #9 2 years ago

    Are they serious? Thats ridiculous!
  • BabyJesus #10 2 years ago

    SCEE strikes again.
  • LR100 #11 2 years ago

I have ordered it like the sucker I am, I just wish play.com had got it, they probably would have sold it for £80-90. :(
  • JohnnyWashnGo #12 2 years ago

When I heard about this yesterday, I immediately order the collection from video games plus. There is now way on earth I will drop 110 for a game. The extras are not worth the asking price in my opinion.

Special editions are becoming less and less special of late.

Some of the better ones in terms of content and value for money have been Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 with its fantastic soundtrack and artbook, Demon's Souls with its brilliant game guide, artbook and sountrack and BlazBlue with the extra disc of tip and tricks.

Some of the worst include Bayonetta, with a crappy version of the soundtrack cd, assassins creed with the soundtrack on a dvd as dvd tracks and batman arkham asylum with its cheapo plastic batarang.

Please, give us more of the good editions and less of the bad editions.

    HOLY FUCKBALLS!...im tempted...
  • menage #14 2 years ago

Meh, I'll buy both games separately for 70-80, don't need the other crap. Junk which dissappears in teh cupboard.
  • Rirekon #15 2 years ago

Is this the only way to get the trilogy for PS3 then? That sucks, way too much for my pocket :(
  • Hexagon #16 2 years ago

That's rather pricey. When is the God of War Collection coming to Europe without all that extra junk? And when are we getting a Metroid Prime Trilogy equivalent?
  • kearneybobs #17 2 years ago

Holy Crap. How much will it be in Euros then? No doubt, 200 or something crazy like that.
Glad I imported the collection a few weeks ago. Was thinking about importing the American Special edition but I don't hink I'll bother now.

That box IS rather cool though. I wonder what it's made of.
  • Ignatius_Cheese #19 2 years ago

  • ps3owner #20 2 years ago

made in china of course at a cost of £2.50

does it even hold any value once you have it, other than nostalgic. I mean, if you'd sell it on ebay, would you make any back?! or more?

  • LHH #21 2 years ago

Guess I'll be importing the gow collection. As others have said, good ol' SCEE
  • HuggyAtHome #22 2 years ago

Christ on a bike, that's expensive. Glad I imported GoW 1 &2 from the US - worth every penny of the 28quid it cost.
  • jag10 #23 2 years ago

3 games, DLC, and music. at least it's not some crap night vision goggles.
  • Doctor_What #24 2 years ago

Bloody ridiculous. £60, yes, £70, maybe... But £110?

For £110 they'd better send around a chaffeur driven limo to pick up the 'pandora's box' two hours after you've purchased it, which will usually be about the time you're thinking 'what the hell am I going to do with that?'.
  • Chewy #25 2 years ago

    You get a PS3 with it...right? ;-)
  • menage #26 2 years ago

Still can't be better than Bayonetta:D
  • mingster #27 2 years ago

That box does look worth a few quid though especially if its metal.
It will bound to be a collectors item as well.
    Its quite cool.
  • VicViper #28 2 years ago

Well that's that then, don't like GoW that much.
Think I'll stick with Bayonetta for the time being.
  • Hexagon #29 2 years ago

I want something like Metroid Prime Trilogy. It only costs £29.99 currently. I suppose I would pay £34.99 or maybe even £39.99 for the God of War Trilogy.
  • Murton #30 2 years ago

Price sounds a little crazy until you break it down.

GOW3 will retail at 45 quid on release day
GOW Collection retailed in the US at 40 dollars I believe, so we'll say maybe 30 quid over here. So 70 quid subtotal
DLC will likely sell seperately for 10 dollars, call that 6.29 here. Call it 75 subtotal to make it easier to follow
Soundtrack cd for all three games, albums are about a tenner a piece, subtotal = 105
Additional heavy metal album inspired by the game, another tenner. 115

Special boxes, postcards, art booklets and making of dvds are standard CE fare and usually inflate the price by 10 quid, so it's not actually that bad a deal. There are however 2 problems I have with this box 1: GOW collection isn't being sold separately in the UK as far as we know, so if you want it you might need to buy this box or import, and 2: it's too big a collectors edition. People like a tin case and a figurine that costs and extra tenner, not enough stuff to put it on sale at triple normal retail price, that's just madness.
  • mingster #31 2 years ago

If that box is metal its worth way more than a tenner probably would cost you about £40-50 in a fantasy model shop.

  • sneetch #32 2 years ago

I could - and will - do without all this collectors edition chaff, I just want the games (for considerably less than £110) but basically I want a case that fits with other DVD/BluRay cases, maybe a steelbook.
  • GreyScale #33 2 years ago

'The price is too much though IMO, the US Ultimate Edition is $90 from Amazon... '

AFAIK the US version doesn't include the remade GOW 1 and2?
  • darkmorgado #34 2 years ago

Quick! Someone tell Activision that they're in danger of being usurped as the king of ridiculously overpriced Special Editions!
  • Kazzahdrane #35 2 years ago

    Oh Sony/GAME.

I was all ready to order this for about £70, maybe £80 at a push, but this is ridiculous. I'll now be buying vanilla GoW3 and possibly importing the Collection from North America at some point if I really want to replay the first 2 games.

Thank God HMV got the Heavy Rain CE, or we'd be paying £60 for that from GAME.
  • fiery_jackass #36 2 years ago

    > murton
thing is, would anyone ACTUALLY buy the soundtracks and, worse, the HM game-inspired discs?
I do not understand special editions, nor the people who buy them.
  • midnight_walker #37 2 years ago

The SFIV CE that I paid £60 for can now be had for around £20. I'll never buy one again.
  • Murton #38 2 years ago

fiery_jackass: exactly my point, when you break it down it's clearly worth the price, it's just not what people want in a collector's edition. I for one would be happy with an extra disc of bonus content, an art book and maybe a figurine all in a nice display box, like the Fallout 3 lunchbox edition or the Assassin's Creed Black edition from play.com, an extra 10-20 quid for some nice extras, not every extra Sony can think of and a triple figure price tag, that's just insanity.
  • El-Dev #39 2 years ago

I don't think I want the fancy box enough to warrant spending an extra £38 on it, think I'll import the Collection and buy III.
  • Hindle #40 2 years ago

All the Gow haters already posting, all ill say is have a look at the recent posideon boss battle scans and you will be blown away

  • Mark1412 #43 2 years ago

Really? It looked to me like you were being a bit silly and trying to use superfluous scores to justify your opinion and then having a cry about it for good measure. My mate and I like Bayonetta more than GoW2, WE'RE RIGHT DEAL WITH IT.
  • VicViper #44 2 years ago

    @Antony_Daniels

Well can't argue with those numbers however having played the Demo for GoWIII while looking the business and certainly uping the scale I already have what I consider a excellent 3rd person action game with, based on the comparing to the GoWIII demo admittily, better combat system which on the whole I would rather have.

I'm sure God of War III will review well, I'm not sure how they could mess it up to be honest it is God of War after all, if this is the only ways to get those two highly acclaimed prequel games then nope I'll stick with what I've got and wait till their standalone however long that is. Also even if it does undercut this comment I have always prefered DMC to God of War but that was due to liking the style of DMC over the Greek mythos of God of War.
  • ryohazuki1983 #45 2 years ago

"The SFIV CE that I paid £60 for can now be had for around £20. I'll never buy one again. "

    THIS!!!!!

Every special edition ends up dropping by a massive amount within a few months or so, buy the standard version, wait for the price of the special edition to drop then if you really want all the extra shit buy it and trade/sell the standard version.

Buying the special editions seems a waste off money anyways but buying them at launch is just insane, IMO at least....

  • GamesConnoisseur #46 2 years ago

Another one going for import and another sale lost for scee, silly price gets a
    suitable response!
  • darkmorgado #47 2 years ago

"Every special edition ends up dropping by a massive amount within a few months or so"

Tell me about it! I'm glad I waited on Forza 3, I got the CE for that with an extra 30 tracks, an extra 20 cars, a 2gb USB dongle, keychain, VIP site membership and fancy box for £32 quid (brand new) in the Christmas sales in GAME - A whopping £13 cheaper than the £44.99 they were asking for the standard edition. MADNESS!

  • WinterSnowblind #48 2 years ago

Very disappointed at the price.. I had a feeling it would be at least £100, but I was really hoping it'd be in the £70-80 range.
I'll hopefully get it if they lower the price after a while, like they do for many CE's that just don't sell, but there's no way I'm paying that.
  • mcwildcard #49 2 years ago

Zeus, your greed will destroy Olympus!!
  • SlackMaster #50 2 years ago

I'm not fussed about fancy boxes, art books and figures. They're all just stuff that you'll throw in a draw and never really use.

Extra DLC, previous games in the series and a bonus disc with 'making of' documentaries are what I would like. I have GoW 1 and 2, and although I can't play them on my ps3 I'd not want to pay all that much extra to own them.

The MGS3 Subsistance was a great set, and I loved the fact it included the MSX versions of MG1 and 1.
  • MrChallacombe #51 2 years ago

Found this out last night and am gutted.
Had held off getting GOW:C on import over xmas as was waiting for this. But i'm not paying £110 when i can pay £70 for GOWC and GOW3. rip-off. Nice box tho!
  • mcwildcard #52 2 years ago

  • Paulie_P #53 2 years ago

I bought the Batman Collectors Edition and I've regretted it ever since, the box sits in my wardrobe. The Batarang was a crappy piece of plastic, the profiles of the batman villains are all included in the game...in fact there are more in the game than in the book and its printed on cheap paper that I wouldn't wipe my arse with. Worse still the DVD case is different to the PS3 boxes so its really hitting an Obsessive Compulsive like me badly and keeping me awake at night.
  • captain_Carl #54 2 years ago

Bought. I don't care how much it is, the entire series is awesome and i am a massive fan - they deserve my money

+1 Ninja Tino, after 'experiencing' Bayonetta, because it really does feel like a breath of fresh air in the genre, GoW 3 has its work cut out for it.

As for the price...GAME can hop it, the stand edition will suffice because it's the game I'll actually be playing, and this package isn't £110 worth of game at all.
  • darc #56 2 years ago

"Well can't argue with those numbers however having played the Demo for GoWIII..."

There's a GoW III *demo* already?!? Man, I have got to pay closer attention. (Running home to my PS3 shortly.)

As for Bayonetta, I played the demo and I totally don't get it. I felt sort of embarassed the entire time. I'll just assume it gets really incredible at some point beyond where the demo leaves off.
  • belziah #57 2 years ago

Fuck 'em and the spiky-wheeled flame-spouting chariot they rode in on.

For anyone that thinks this is value for money, I've got an original Casio Calculator watch( with built-in Number Invaders game) circa 1982. Yours at a snip for £300.

I've put a brand new battery in it. With the new battery technology inside, its almost like a brand new watch!

    Any takers?
  • MrE26 #58 2 years ago

I'm a huge fan of God of War, & a total sucker for fancy special editions, but FUCK THAT SHIT.
  • Ashcroft #59 2 years ago

I've ordered it, but I'll probably cancel it, I just wanted the option in case they sell out. But, £40 for the game, £30 for the 1 & 2 collection, and then £40 for 4 soundtracks, the DLC (which will probably be £5 to £10, and the other stuff, and the box, it's on the border of being the price I'd expect. Maybe it could be £10 or £20 cheaper. I'll certainly get it if it comes down majorly in price after release.
  • VicViper #60 2 years ago

    @darc

Ah, on that note I should clarify for some reason Sony sent me a code to download it, apparently they did this for a number of people. I haven't looked at PSN or heard them doing a release to everyone.
  • FortysixterUK #61 2 years ago

    That's FUCKING outrageous.

    Order placed.
  • penhalion #62 2 years ago

Glad to see some people have realised that the special edition version will most likely drop in price by a huge amaount a week or so after it's released. I remember the assasins creed 2 special edition. I picked that up for 35 quid a week later as Game couldn't get anyone silly enough to buy it at the original price.

You would have though that they had learned a lesson from that but, I guess stupid is as stupid does.
