Gamerpoint whores unite

To earn NBA Live achievement.

Even among gamerpoint whores, some achievements just have to be written off. Getting 10,000 kills online in Gears of War, perhaps. Or just about flipping anything in Ridge Racer 6. NBA Live 07 certainly has one - it demands that you be "online with 1,000 people".

It's 100 gamerpoints if you can manage it, but even Kristan doesn't have that many people on his friends list. So how to do it? Well, get organised, obviously - and that's what the folks at Achieve360Points.com are doing.

The idea is that at a particular time this weekend, everyone with a copy of the game will turn it on, go online and leave it there for one hour. If 1,000 people around the world pitch up simultaneously, everyone should get it.

Interested? Then make sure you're all set between 1am and 2am on Sunday 11th February. For a full list of times, check out the website.

It must be depressing for EA that they haven't had 1,000 people playing NBA Live 07 online but as an owner of said game I can easily see why: it's crap of the highest order and is a very poor second to the brilliant NBA 2K7.

Do 1,000 people even *own* the game never mind play it online? LOL

It's stories like this that make you proud to call yourself a gamer!!!!!!!

Why have EA gone from giving them away to being complete arses about it?

Oh man. Do people really care about the points this much? I used to get angry when people said gamers are sad but I'm beginning to see their point of view ;).

My friend calls them "Life emptyness points" and says the number you have is a direct correlation to how emtpy your life is - reading this I can't help but agree...

The exploitation of social network marketing is still at it's early stages.

How many points does getting a life net you?

Personally I go after achievements if I really like the game. It keeps me playing and spurs me on to complete it. Unfortunately basketball will never appeal to me, you can keep your 100 points.

I don't think this is a good idea... but never mind... Gamespot has some more details on how this is going to work. Frankly, I don't think I'll be able to get at least 1,500 GS in 60 days or however long it is... meh.

Oh and possibly it's open to US gamers only anyway 8)

"Lads, you're posting to a gaming website first thing in the morning, I'd look in the mirror before you go claiming any kettles are black."

    LMFAO :)

Lads, you're posting to a gaming website first thing in the morning, I'd look in the mirror before you go claiming any kettles are black.
    Class. :)

I think it's great, if they give you the option to get the points then something like this is a bit of a laugh really.

But shouldn't X360 be like the best and most popular gaming device, ever? How can it be THAT hard to get 1000 people to be online for a NBA Live game, then? I mean, it's just 1000 people, not like 1000,000 people. And I understood there are over 1000,000 XBL users anyway. Oh, well. MS is just so cunning and wise, I bet they are just doing it all for the benefit of the consumer (unlike some other evil companies).

Thousands of power hungry 360's running for an hour simply to get a few virtual points.

Have these people heard of global warming?

The difference is i'm not hovering over the site for an hour in order to get some amount of points that have no real-life value whatsoever...plus i'm at work and it beats...actually working.

    @ Lambtron

So, i guess you and your friend must be the weakest gamers on xbl....you see, otherwise you would be saying that your own life is empty....

    @ asphaltcowboy

You didn't even read the news story, did you? And yes, what you are talking about is open to US gamers only.

Let me get this straight. People are needing to get organised just to get 1000 players online at once?

I wonder how many gamers are online in Halo 2 as I write this? I couldn't begin to guess, but I would imagine it is multiple thousands. I know thats a hard comparison, but even so, 1000 just doesn't sound like that much.

    P.s.

Rambaldi and points, sitting in a treeeeee... Are you going to get your gamerscore a valentines card? Heehee ;)
